Melania Trump has taken to social media to share a photo of herself wearing a cloth face mask in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She is the first member of the Trump family to publicly wear a face covering.

This comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance for the American public. On the 3rd of April, the CDC suggested that citizens wear non-medical cloth coverings while out in public in order to halt the spread of the virus by those who are asymptomatic carriers.

However, when announcing the measures, President Donald Trump stressed that the guidelines were optional. "I'm choosing not to do it," he said.

Watch as President Trump berates a NBC news reporter:

"As the CDC continues to study the spread of the COVID-19, they recommend that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain," the First Lady wrote on her social media accounts, alongside a photograph of herself. "Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing. It is recommended to keep us all safe."

Per CNN, on Sunday, Trump was asked during a press briefing about the First Lady's support of face coverings, given his personal stance on the matter.

"It's good, no, she feels that way," he said. "She likes the idea of wearing it, yeah, she does. A lot of people do. Again, it's a recommendation, and I understand that recommendation, and I'm OK with it."

According to the publication, the President has been tested at least twice for the novel coronavirus, and both tests were reportedly negative. The First Lady has been tested at least once, per her spokesperson, who confirmed on the 13th March that the test was negative.
