Alex Pretti was injured and broke his rib in a scuffle with federal agents days before he was shot in the second ICE shooting in Minneapolis, according to reports.
The 37-year-old was allegedly tackled by officers during a confrontation over Donald Trump’s ongoing immigration crackdown.
Reports claim Alex Pretti was involved in an earlier fight with ICE
A source told CNN that Pretti was known to ICE agents before his death, and that federal agents were keeping information and personal details about protestors and those obstructing their operations in Minneapolis.
ICE allegedly had details on Pretti before his shooting on January 24, having been involved in an altercation with him a week previously.
The report claims that Pretti suffered a broken rib during a fight with federal officers that saw the ICU nurse tackled to the floor as he protested and attempted stop officers from detaining other people.
According to the source, Pretti had stopped his car to intervene after seeing ICE agents chasing a family.
In a memo quoted by CNN that was allegedly sent to agents assigned to the city, the ICE operatives were asked to ‘capture all images, license plates, identifications, and general information on hotels, agitators, protestors, etc., so we can capture it all in one consolidated form’.
Department of Homeland Security sent a warning to ICE protestors
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has warned of threats to enforcement officers and given strong criticism against protestors who they claim to be obstructing their duties.
The DHS has also set up a tip line for people to share info on those allegedly harrassing and protesting ICE officers.
In a statement, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said: “When our law enforcement encounter a violent agitator who is breaking the law, obstructing law enforcement or assaulting them, our law enforcement make records to advance prosecution.
“This is not ground breaking, it is standard protocol.”
Pretti allegedly stopped his vehicle and got out after spotting ICE agents attempting to capture a family on foot.
He was blowing a whistle and shouting as the agents attempted to detain the family, according to a source.
Pretti later claimed that the officers tackled him and one leant on his back, which caused the broken rib.
The source - who does not want to be named for fear of retribution - told CNN: “That day, he thought he was going to die.”
