A Comedian and social media star was almost crushed to death when a 600lb fridge fell on her, leaving her trapped while she was alone at home with her two young children.
For Laura Clery, 39, a single mom’s worst nightmare became a scary reality when the huge kitchen appliance she thought was mounted to her wall fell on her as she tried to push it back into place.
The mom-of-two told her 25 million followers across various platforms that her son, Alfie, 7, had been trying to climb on the fridge when she noticed it "shift slightly," making her "stomach drop."
As any parent would, she leaped to hold it in place to prevent it from falling when it came crashing down on top of her.
On her Patreon, Clery wrote, "The full weight of it slammed me backward into the kitchen island, pinning my lower back and hips."
Describing the terrifying moment in a video on Instagram, the comedian said, "I couldn't move. Couldn't breathe right. It was impossible to get off, and I could feel myself losing consciousness. My kids were in the house. I genuinely didn't know if I was getting out of that alive.
"Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911. Thank god it didn't fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I'm still shaking.”
Clery also posted a picture of herself in a neck brace inside an ambulance on Facebook with the caption “I want to f****** sue the contractors who installed this fridge.
"This is a nearly 600-pound stainless steel French door fridge that was NOT properly mounted into the wall. Because of that, my 7-year- old was able to pull it forward, and when I tried to push it back, it fell on me and was fully crushing me. It nearly killed me. And it could have absolutely killed my child. This should never have been possible. This was negligence.”
The star, who shot to fame by making comedic sketches on social media, also documents her life as a single mom and parenting a child with autism.
While most of her fans commented with well-wishes and condolences, some people online questioned how and why she filmed herself being carried into an ambulance.
One user wrote, "Oh my Lord, sis! So glad you are mostly ok and grateful the kids were not hurt. Praise God for firefighters!"
Another commented, "I'm so sorry this happened to you and that you are ok. Sending physical and mental healing vibes your way."
While one person mocked, "Lol, this is f----- comical. Who pulls their phone out for 'content' in this situation."
Another person even speculated whether the influencer could be making it up, saying, "Sorry.. not buying it. The rescuer in front said it all when he turned around to see you filming. For someone who chooses to put every aspect of their life on sm like it's the Truman show and the way you always played the victim when going through your separation/ divorce.. I mean are we seriously faking injuries or how we got injured for likes and follows..? Well you see people and couples pulling fake pranks on one another.. why not injuries?"
