Man who went from 6 foot to 2'8" at age 18 makes huge revelation about his sex life
A young man who was once a desirable six foot had his life changed forever when an accident at work caused him to be amputated below the belly button. He has now opened up about how the life-changing injury has affected his sex life.
Loren Schauer, now 24, lost his pelvis, legs, right forearm, and even his genitalia after he was crushed by a forklift while at work for a construction company in 2019.
Schauer remembers the moment his life changed forever
Recalling the fateful day, he told The New York Post: “I’ll always remember that day. I got in the forklift, and I was asked to move a water barrier back into place.
“I sank immediately into such an angle that I started to slow tip up and go down towards a 50-foot drop of a hill.
“Next thing I know, I’m watching this forklift roll downward towards me.”
Miraculously, Schauers, who was 18 at the time of the accident, did not die after spending 30 minutes stuck under the weight of a forklift.
To save his life, he underwent a hemicorporectomy, a rare surgery that amputates the body below the waist.
While he lives a fulfilling and inspiring life now, his injuries are catastrophic.
Schauer went from being nearly 6 feet tall to 2 feet, 8 inches, with a weight of about 90 pounds.
A lot of his organs had to be moved around to be accommodated in his new body.
Family nurse Brandon Hawk explained: “The surgeon had to remove everything from his hip bones down.
“To get everything to fit right, they had to move everything up, which then would push on his stomach, his lungs, his heart.
“And then they had to make room for a colostomy for his stool to pass through and then a urostomy for urine because he no longer has a bladder.”
However, Schauers’ story is not just a devastating one of resilience, but unwavering love too. Before the tragic accident, Schauers had been in a relationship and living with Sabia Reiche for 15 months. Although the couple were extremely young and went through an ordeal most adults could never imagine, Reiche stuck by him and they are still together seven years later.
The young couple stayed together and document their lives on social media
Recalling visiting her boyfriend after the accident, Reiche told The Post: “When we were brought to Loren’s room, because he was already amputated so much, he was taking up such a small amount of the bed.
“I was convinced we were in the wrong room. I thought we were in a kid’s room.”
Heartwarmingly, she added: “It really wasn’t even a decision for me. My brain just immediately went, ‘OK, this is our life now.'”
The couple got married in 2021 and have been documenting their lives on social media ever since. Although they live as normal a life as any other couple, they are constantly pestered with questions about their sex life.
Addressing the invasive question, Schauers said: “When it comes to intimacy, we’re not different from any other regular couple.
“I might not have all the parts that I need, but it doesn’t change how we’re intimate with one another or how we love one another or how we show affection to one another.”
Shortly after the accident, Schauers was tragically told he wouldn’t be able to father children naturally, and he said it was 'one of the hardest things' to process.
He said: “I didn’t cry over not having legs or a pelvis,” “The only thing I cried about was not being able to have kids.”
