Trump makes awkward joke about Susan Dell as photo of her next to president sparks ‘robot clone’ claims
President Donald Trump hosted an event in the Oval Office on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to promote the expansion of the Trump Accounts program. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent attended the meeting alongside Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell and his wife, Susan Dell.
The program provides children born between 2025 and 2028 with a $1,000 government seed deposit placed into an investment account. The funds are invested in the stock market and become accessible when the child turns 18. Automatic enrollment for the scheme is now live.
Michael and Susan Dell have committed $6.25 billion to the initiative, which includes $250 contributions for up to 25 million eligible children. During the Oval Office gathering, an unexpected moment occurred between the president and the couple following public remarks about the project.
An exchange in the Oval Office
After Susan Dell spoke to encourage parents to open Trump Accounts, Trump turned toward her and praised her efforts. He then asked, "Good job, is she thinking about running for office? I'll endorse her, she has my complete and total endorsement."
Michael Dell quickly stepped in with a firm response to the president's query. He answered with a flat "no, she's not."
Michael Dell's immediate answer pointed firmly away from a political career, and Susan Dell has not publicly addressed the remark. The offer of an endorsement appeared to be a lighthearted quip rather than a plan for an official campaign.
The exchange rapidly gained attention across social media platforms after video clips of the event circulated online.
"Her mannerisms [are] like a robot clone," one user reacted, while another said: "I was looking at the dress because I thought it was something with that until I looked up and got actually jumpscared."
The history of the Dell family alliance
Susan Dell is known primarily for her philanthropic work. She co-founded the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation in 1999 and serves as the chair of its board, focusing on education, health care, and family economic stability. She is a former fashion entrepreneur and an accomplished endurance athlete. Married since 1989, the couple has four children.
The couple has maintained a visible connection to the administration regarding this savings initiative. They first announced their donation on December 2, 2025, in the Roosevelt Room at the White House. In January, Michael Dell joined Trump and businessman Kevin O'Leary at an event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC.
The couple also attended the program launch at the White House, a Rose Garden Club lunch on July 6, and a state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24. Michael Dell's relationship with Trump dates back to January 2017, when he attended a Roosevelt Room meeting with business executives to discuss cutting regulations on new investment.
Viral video sparks online reaction
In a separate administration development, Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler sparked reaction online after appearing in a TikTok video answering frequently asked questions about her role. The video gathered nearly 400,000 views as users commented on the footage.
Viewers pointed out that Loeffler walked down a hallway lined with framed photos of herself while holding a binder that contained no paper. Commenters posted reactions questioning her movements, with one writing, "First day in a human body is always awkward," while another noted, "It's the empty binder for me."
During the video, Loeffler discussed her favorite part of her job, stating it is "obviously being out with small businesses." She added, "Whether I'm walking a factory floor with a small manufacturer, or in a family-owned generational restaurant, I can see the impact that the SBA is having through the work that our team does every day."
