World War 3 threat expert has one message for Americans ahead of midterms that could change everything
A well-known geopolitical strategist has explained why the upcoming midterms could have a major impact not only on the US, but on the world.
The noise around World War 3 simply won't go away, and political tensions are continuing to rise following claims that Trump and co could be on the precipice of launching a nuclear strike on Iran.
But first of all, there's the matter of the midterm elections, which take place on Tuesday (November 3).
Every two years, Americans choose the members of Congress, who will be responsible for creating and passing federal laws.
The result of the midterms will decide whether Trump's Republicans or the opposition Democrats will control Congress.
It will determine how easy it will be for Trump to execute his plans, with the results also acting as a yardstick of how happy US citizens are with the President's performance, midway through his term.
Expert has key message for Americans
Dr. Sarah Paine, a historian, geopolitical strategist and retired professor from the U.S. Naval War College, has warned US citizens of the importance of the midterms.
The expert, who specializes in Russian and Chinese imperial history and maritime strategy, has pushed for Americans to vote in the midterms, with choices today having a huge effect on the country's national security and its future.
Speaking during an episode of Diary Of A CEO, Dr. Piane said that a chunk of Americans didn't vote in the previous election, so it's imperative that they do so this year.
She warned that national security and prosperity should be prioritized over party loyalty, claiming that people often vote for their respective parties instead of judging what the politicians deliver.
The expert went on, claiming that Americans have to listen to people with different views, an issue that hasn't been helped by the rise in influence of social media.
Dr. Paine also said that people have to start accepting election results instead of claiming that defeat was caused by cheating - though it may be hard if the leader of a party leads the charge.
Speaking about the younger generations in particular, she has urged them to keep speaking with one another, keep learning from different viewpoints and, most importantly, vote.
Her opinions may hold more weight now, with the US locked into an ongoing conflict in the Middle East, while Russia and Ukraine remain at odds.
Huge change to US military drafts
A major change to how the US military drafts its soldiers is set to be implemented on December 1.
The Selective Service System (SSS), the agency responsible for armed forces recruitment in the US, submitted the plan earlier this year.
According to the SSS website, the recommendation would “transfer responsibility for registration from individual men to SSS, creating a more streamlined process.”
In the United States, all men between the ages of 18 and 25 are legally required to register, with failure to do so considered a crime, with punishment carrying up to five years in prison, according to the Constitution.
At the moment, 46 states automatically register eligible men, but the SSS has since moved to make that practice a nationwide process.
While those rules are enforced, adherence dropped to 81% in 2024, government data has revealed.
The change was subsequently approved by Congress as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which is responsible for funding the US military.
