A New Jersey woman has been arrested after allegedly recording herself sexually assaulting a child under 13 and sharing the footage on Snapchat.
Investigators identified her through a distinctive tattoo on her leg.
Victoria Anne Cranmer, 25, of Little Egg Harbor, was charged on Tuesday with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree manufacturing of child sexual abuse material, third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
She is being held without bail at Ocean County Jail.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, investigators were able to identify Cranmer through several distinctive tattoos visible in the 14-second recording.
One of the tattoos, located on her leg, depicts breasts.
The tattoo proved to be the critical piece of evidence linking Cranmer to the footage.
Without it, identifying suspects in child abuse material can take investigators months or even years.
The investigation did not begin with a tip from Snapchat or a report from a concerned member of the public. It began with a returned phone.
According to court documents, the mobile phone used to record the footage had been given to Cranmer as a birthday present by a former roommate.
After a falling out, the roommate asked Cranmer to move out and to leave the phone behind.
While reviewing the phone's contents after getting it back, the roommate discovered the recording. They saved the video and turned the device over to investigators.
The case was referred to the Little Egg Harbor Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit on May 20 by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
Detectives obtained search warrants for both the phone and Cranmer's Snapchat account.
On the account, they found additional videos saved in Snapchat's Memories feature, a function that allows users to store content within the app.
Several of the videos showed Cranmer and the alleged victim in a bathroom.
At least one was shared on Snapchat, according to New Jersey 101.5.
The original 14-second clip, which court documents describe as showing the assault of a child under 13, was recorded on May 6 inside the bathroom of a home in Little Egg Harbor while the child was in Cranmer's care.
According to documents cited by NJ.com, Cranmer can be heard laughing while the alleged assault takes place.
Cranmer faces four charges in total.
Second-degree sexual assault and second-degree manufacturing of child sexual abuse material are the most serious, each carrying significant prison time under New Jersey law.
She also faces third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
She was booked into Ocean County Jail and is being held without bail pending further proceedings. No court date has been publicly announced.
The charges are similar in nature to those brought against adult film actor Austin Wolf, who was recently sentenced to 19 years in prison after being found in possession of hundreds of videos depicting sexual abuse of minors, including footage involving infants.
Snapchat's Memories function allows users to save Snaps and Stories within the app rather than to their phone's camera roll.
Content saved in Memories is stored on Snapchat's servers and can be accessed by the user at any time.
In this case, investigators obtained a warrant for Cranmer's Snapchat account and were able to recover additional videos that had been saved using the feature.
The fact that the content was stored within Snapchat rather than on the phone itself meant it would not have been visible to the roommate who discovered the original clip on the device.
It also means the videos were accessible to Snapchat as a platform.
Under US federal law, electronic service providers are required to report any child sexual abuse material they become aware of to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
It is not clear whether Snapchat flagged the content before investigators obtained the warrant.
Cranmer remains in custody at Ocean County Jail.
The investigation is being handled by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit in conjunction with the Little Egg Harbor Police Department.
Prosecutors have not indicated whether additional charges may follow, though the discovery of multiple videos on both the phone and Cranmer's Snapchat account suggests the investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the child has not been made public.
The victim is confirmed to be under 13 years old.

Wildwood Police Department have responded to the shocking footage of an underage woman being beaten by a police officer that went viral this week on Twitter.
Emily Weinman was arrested on Saturday, May 26 on a New Jersey each where she had been spending time with her family and friends for Memorial Day weekend. She was confronted by police on suspicion of drinking, something she actively denied.
"Two cops approach me on their four-wheelers and ask me and my friend how old we are, we gave them our ages. Then, we got breathalized, and it came back negative. I told them I wasn’t drinking and the alcohol was clearly closed/sealed, which the cops seen," Emily said.

Despite the fact that the tests came back negative, police still remained close to the group and asked them to pour their sealed drinks into the sand. Following this, things swiftly got out of hand.
However, in an attempt to try and shed light on the situation that has seen the police force widely criticised online, Wildwood Police Department have released the body cam footage from the day.
In the original footage posted online, all we saw was the police punching Emily twice in the back of the head before handcuffing her. However, the police footage shows the full story - although the footage does cut out at some rather interesting points.
The officer in question asks Emily to take two breathalyser tests, after which she asserts: "I know that didn’t come out positive. I didn’t take a drink of anything."
As she claims, the test comes back negative, but the officer still asks Emily and her friend to empty their drinks. The women argue they have done nothing wrong and after being told that they are "not cooperating," Emily says: "I didn't disrespect you, I didn't do anything to get written up, did I?"
The officer then tells Emily that she's causing a scene and asks for her last name, saying: "I'm done with you... Get over here."
However, Emily backs off, saying: "Don't f**king cuff me." This doesn't go down well with the officer who informs her: "You're about to get dropped."
The officer walks towards Emily, who raises her hands and the camera cuts off. Police Chief Robert Regalbuto told NJ Advance Media that Weinman ‘forcibly struck’ the officer in the chest and kicked one of the other officers in the groin during the blackout.
However, when the camera comes back to life, the officers can be seen grabbing Weinman's hair and forcing her to the ground by punching her in the head. Take a look at their footage below:

The officers then handcuff Emily before leading her off to the waiting cars. In one final attempt to get one over them, Emily can be seen spitting in the direction of the police.
Despite the officers using excessive force and striking Emily, the Police Chief was supportive of his policemen.
"From what I see on the video and only on the video, from not even talking to the officers, I think they did a decent job.
"I think we could have done a better job at trying to explain to her, but it didn’t appear Ms. Weinman wanted to hear what we had to say.
"She tried to tell us it was okay for her to possess alcohol and that doesn’t make any sense."
The police footage undoubtedly sheds a bit more light on the situation, but it's still unclear exactly what happened. The camera blackout seems like it's time a bit too perfect in order to fit the police story. Even if Emily did strike the officers, it doesn't vindicate punching her in the back of the head twice.
In May of this year, news of a woman's arrest went viral after body cam footage taken by an officer appeared to show him using an excessive amount of force against her. The woman in question, Emily Weinman, was approached by police when they suspected she might have been drinking underage. She passed a breathalyser test, and explained that the alcohol belonged to her aunt - but the officers would not leave her alone.
After a brief verbal dispute in which Weinman said, "You’re mad because you thought we were drinking," and refused to give out her full name, officer Thomas Cannon became aggressive with the 20-year-old woman, and asked his partner if he had any handcuffs with him. This obviously irked Weinman, who backed away from Cannon as he approached her.
A scuffle then ensued, and Weinman could be seen pushing Cannon - momentarily obscuring the view on his bodycam - before being held down on the ground.
Cannon then proceeded to punch the woman multiple times.

At first, the case was brought to light because the cops were believed to have committed assault. Now, however, it's transpired that Weinman has been indicted for violent actions against the officers.
At the time of the arrest, Cannon was recorded saying: "She tried kicking at us so I slammed her on the ground. She kicked him, so I hit her a couple times and put her in cuffs."
The cops have also accused her of spitting on them.
Both Cannon and his partner, Robert Jordan, were cleared of inappropriate behaviour after the bodycam footage and other video footage from the incident were reviewed by authorities.
Weiman, meanwhile, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on police officers, resisting arrest, throwing bodily fluids, and obstruction. She previously turned down a plea deal for the assault charge in July, and must now go to trial for the incident.
[[youtubewidget||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6R927kKNig]]
News of Weinman's indictment has upset many people, especially those who believe that is actually Cannon who should be on trial.
"How can he not face charges?? It’s on video for the world to see. This was brutal and he needs to be held accountable," said one Twitter user.
"He was pressing her head into the ground and was punching her in the head," said another. "Cops are using excessive force far too often. They are supposed to meet force with force. Cops need retrained and demilitarised on this will happen more often."
Others, however, believe that the police were right to act as they did, and that Weinman could have avoided the officer's reaction if she had just done as he had said. It has also been pointed out that Weinman used a racial slur in an earlier interaction with the officers, but it is not clear whether that incited a reaction from the cops.

What ought to be considered here is that Weinman was proven to have not consumed any alcohol, and the matter should have been done with after that point. However, the officers continued to make an issue of it, and eventually punched the 20-year-old when she was already subdued and on the ground.
Weinman is due to face trial soon.
A woman who pulled down a teenager's skirt to shame her has been charged with sexual battery.
Ida Ann Lorenzo has been charged with a sex crime after she allegedly decided to grab the skirt of an 18-year-old and yank it down while in a restaurant.
It was reported that Lorenzo approached a group of girls at Sakura Japanese Steakhouse in the city of St George in Utah on Saturday night and started hounding one of the teens about her outfit.
In a video posted to TikTok, the 48-year-old could be heard telling the alleged victim that if she has to watch her "a** cheeks hanging out again," she would call Child Protective Services.
The clip, which only lasts a few seconds, starts in the middle of the altercation, with the person filming saying: "Is this actually happening?"
Moments later, Lorenzo tells the group of girls: "I happen to work for the state. If I have to watch your a** cheek hanging out again, I will call the CPS."
One of the teens responds back with: "[Do] you work for the state?" while another adds: "Please call the police."
Have a look at the video below:
As per the Daily Mail, she later told police that she was planning to file an indecent exposure report, but instead, it was she who faced criminal charges for her behavior.
Charged with Class A battery, Lorenzo, who works for Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane.
She also told the outlet that the teen's skirt was allegedly "hiked above her v*gina and butt," exposing her pubic hair while in a public area.
After the clip was posted to TikTok by one of the girls' friends who goes by the username @ccsnowwww, it garnered a lot of attention, with many clearly glad that the woman was punished for harassing the girl.
"Nice lol, please tell me this means she has to register as a sex offender lololol...oh the irony," wrote one user while another added: "INCREDIBLE NEWS!!!!! Good for you guys!!!!"
A third was also glad to see the back of Lorenzo too writing: "Sooo satisfying... best update."
However, after the video went viral, it seems as though the attorney went back to the authorities claiming that her life had been "threatened", to which there has not been an update on as of yet.
I mean this is the pure definition of you f*** around and you find out.
Am I right?
A woman has been blasted on social media after she went on a scathing rant over a teenager wearing a bikini on the beach in front of her son.
A 13-year-old girl and her mom were enjoying a lovely day at the beach when a judgemental woman confronted them over the teenager's choice of swimsuit attire.
The young girl's mother quickly reacted to the verbal altercation by taking her phone out and recording the offensive remarks the angry woman was throwing their way.
"What kind of mother are you to let your daughter wear a thong and show her a** cheeks around a four-year-old kid? She's wearing a f***ing thong," the mom of the four-year-old said. "No, I’m not," the teen calmly responded off-camera.
Watch the interaction below:The woman then asked why the other woman was filming her, and she explained that it was for her protection. This makes sense as the mom of the son threatened to beat her up on camera.
As the confrontation continued, the enraged woman's friend stepped forward to try and defuse the situation by saying: "I agree she kind of overreacted... Just the bathing suit. Maybe you could just... She’s a little bit offended by a little bit too much skin showing, I suppose."
However, the friend's attempt to de-escalate the situation clearly didn't work as the woman took her rant to another level and shockingly seethed: "If my son r***s your daughter when he’s older, it’s not my problem," before the clip ended.
After seeing the viral video - which has been deleted on TikTok but re-shared on the platform X - many users were left disgusted that the woman entered the "she was asking for it" mentality.
One horrified user wrote: "So she's [sexualizing] both a 4-year-old and a 13-year-old while cursing at a stranger in front of said 4-year-old, and also threatening violence in front of him, AND excusing r**e. Cool cool cool."
Another interjected: "Hold it. Last sentence. If my son r***s your daughter that’s not my problem. Hooooooooly s***. Worst Mother of the Year award, worst woman, worst human …. That’s like a CPS issue or something."
A third person commented: "I did not expect that ending but I probably should have with the way the angry mom was talking."
A fourth shared: "Not only is she sexualizing children, but she is raising her toddler to think that feminine bodies are deserving of assault if they show a little skin. These are women that raise assaulters."
Several other people pointed out that in trying to shield her young son, the woman exposed him to far worse through her vile behavior as she was cursing and threatening another parent right in front of him.
A former English teacher from New Jersey could serve up to a year in jail after admitting she sent nude photos of herself to a pupil via Snapchat and email.
Michelina Aichele, who is 30 years old, was arrested and charged with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child back in October of last year.
She was apprehended after police and administration staff at the school found photos and conversations of a sexual nature being exchanged between herself and a 17-year-old male pupil.
The messages and images, which had reportedly been sent via text, email, and social media, were sent between February and April in 2018.
According to NJ.com, Police have disclosed that upon interviewing the student, he admitted that the English teacher sent him four explicit pictures of "her exposed bare breasts and buttocks" on Snapchat while he was a junior at her school.
"He further stated that she sent him text messages through Snapchat, stating that she thought about him while masturbating," they added.
Before that, when it was just the school pursuing the matter, both he and Aichele had denied a relationship, with the teacher claiming that students had hacked her phone and sent the snap, officials said. When police intervened, however, the student gave up everything, admitting to the truth.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the teacher had sent the teenager indecent messages on his student email, and had allegedly asked him to take an online test which measures a person's level of sexual experience.
Aichele, who initially reportedly faced up to five years in jail for the offences, pleaded guilty in court on Wednesday for a reduced sentence. In addition to jail time (which is yet to be determined), she has been ordered to give up her teaching certificate, and will be on a sex offender register for the rest of her life.
At the time of her arrest, according to state records, Aichele was making $72,500 as a teacher at the school.
She will be officially sentenced in July.
