A Florida woman is set to appear in court after a game of hide and seek turned sinister when she left her boyfriend in a suitcase where he allegedly suffocated to death.
The alleged crime took place in 2020 after Sarah Boone - who was 42 at the time of the incident - claims a drunken night led to her zipping Jorge Torres Jr into a suitcase and forgetting he was in there, per the Daily Mail.
Boone told investigators that she had passed out after leaving her then-boyfriend in the suitcase, and he sadly passed away after being left struggling to breathe for an extended period of time.
In a 911 call first obtained by Orlando Sentinal, Boone stated: "My boyfriend and I were playing last night, and I put him in a suitcase and we were playing... like kind of a hide-and-seek kind thing, so... I fell asleep and I woke up and he was dead in the suitcase. I don't know what happened."
She added that he had blood coming from his mouth and that he may have suffered an aneurysm while trapped inside the suitcase.
However, Boone's story began to unravel when investigators found video clips on her phone that appeared to show her taunting Torres Jr as he repeatedly told her that he was struggling to breathe.
During the clip, Boone can allegedly be heard saying: "For everything you've done to me. F*** you. Stupid," to which Torres Jr responds in a panicked voice that he can't breathe.
Warning: the below video may be distressing to someBoone allegedly replied: "Yeah, that's what you do when you choke me. That's on you. Oh, that's what I feel like when you cheat on me. You should probably shut the f*** up."
As the Daily Mail reported, during her initial interview Boone claimed that the pair had been drinking Chardonnay and completing a puzzle when they decided to play hide and seek, but stated that neither was drunk.
She alleged the pair were laughing when Torres Jr was first placed into the suitcase, and that she went upstairs thinking he would be able to get himself out.
Boone claims she then fell asleep and did not go back downstairs until 11:00 AM the following morning when she was unable to locate her boyfriend.
According to the arrest document, Boone "freaked out" and unzipped the suitcase, finding her boyfriend unresponsive inside. She allegedly administered CPR and her ex-husband encouraged her to call for help.
The victim allegedly had a cut on his lip, bruising around his eye, forehead, and shoulder, and nail scratches on his back and neck.
Police reports indicate that the couple had a history of domestic violence, with Boone being arrested in 2018 on a charge of battery by strangulation targeting Torres Jr, with the now-deceased 42-year-old being charged with battery following an incident in their home.
Torres Jr's obituary reveals that he leaves behind three children.
Boone will appear in court on January 30.

A verdict has been reached in the much-awaited trial for the woman accused of zipping her boyfriend inside a suitcase and leaving him to die.
The chilling incident took place in 2020 when Sarah Boone, then 42, allegedly zipped up Jorge Torres Jr. in suitcase at their residence in Winter Park, Florida.
Boone claims she passed out after drinking alcohol and forgot that her partner was inside, leading to his tragic death, according to the Daily Mail.
Boone initially told detectives with the Orange County Sheriff’s office that she and Torres had been playing a game of hide-and-seek that night.
When she woke up the next morning, she couldn’t find her boyfriend but then remembered he was in the suitcase. She unzipped it and found him unresponsive.
In a 911 call obtained by the Orlando Sentinel, Boone said: "My boyfriend and I were playing last night, and I put him in a suitcase and we were playing... like kind of a hide-and-seek kind thing, so... I fell asleep and I woke up and he was dead in the suitcase. I don't know what happened."
Boone added that Torres Jr. had blood coming from his mouth and suggested he might have suffered an aneurysm while trapped.
Deputies who responded to the residence in the 4700 block of Frantz Lane found Torres' lifeless body lying on the floor next to a blue suitcase.
Boone's narrative appeared to unravel when detectives found harrowing clips on her phone of Torres yelling from inside the suitcase that he couldn’t breathe.
In one clip, Boone can allegedly be heard saying: "For everything you've done to me. F*** you. Stupid," to which Torres Jr. responds, panicking, that he can't breathe.
“I can’t f**king breathe, seriously,” her boyfriend pleads in the video.
Boone allegedly replies: "Yeah, that's what you do when you choke me. That's on you. Oh, that's what I feel like when you cheat on me. You should probably shut the f*** up."
The suspect was charged with murder. She pleaded not guilty, testifying that she thought Torres Jr. could get out of the suitcase, per CNN.
The suspect learned her verdict on Friday (October 26) when a jury in central Florida found her guilty of second-degree murder.
Boone testified during her trial that past violent incidents between her and Torres caused her to perceive a threat of imminent harm and that she acted in self-defence by keeping him in the suitcase.
An autopsy report revealed that the victim, who was a father of three, had a busted lip, scratches on his back and neck, and contusions to his skull, forehead, and shoulder, from blunt force trauma.
She will be sentenced on December 2 and faces up to life in prison.

A Florida woman accused of murdering her boyfriend by zipping him up in a suitcase will go on trial today (January 29).
Sarah Boone is accused of zipping her boyfriend inside a suitcase and leaving him to die during an alleged game of hide-and-seek in 2020. The trial is finally set to commence on Monday after multiple delays.
Over the past nearly four years, the trial's start date had been pushed back due to various motions filed by public defenders seeking to withdraw from representing Boone, according to court records, per Fox 35.
On February 25, 2020, Boone, then 42, was arrested by Orange County deputies following the tragic death of 42-year-old Jorge Torres Jr., who was zipped into a suitcase and left inside for hours. The incident reportedly occurred at the couple's Winter Park home, near Aloma Avenue and Goldenrod Road.
Investigation findings indicated that Boone claimed she and Torres had been drinking wine and engaged in a game of hide-and-seek. Boone alleged that she went upstairs and fell asleep in her bed.
Hours later, she awoke to multiple calls on her cellphone, which led her to suspect that her boyfriend might still be inside the suitcase. When she unzipped it, she discovered Torres unresponsive and not breathing. Boone immediately dialed 911, and deputies arrived to find Torres deceased.
The Florida State Attorney's Office released a disturbing video purportedly recorded on Boone's cell phone, capturing a chilling conversation between her and Torres.
In the video, Boone can be heard laughing while Torres screams in terror from inside the suitcase, desperately pleading for help until his final moments, as reported by investigators.
"For everything you've done to me, [expletive] you! Stupid," Boone is heard saying in the video. "That's on you. Oh, that's what I feel like when you cheat on me," she reportedly added.
The initial video began recording on February 24, 2020, at 11:12PM, during which Torres repeatedly called out Boone's name. Boone's laughter echoed as he screamed in fear, pleading for help and repeatedly telling her that he could not breathe, according to investigators.
A second video, recorded on February 24 at 8:20PM, also captured Torres yelling Boone's name. Detectives noted that the suitcase was in a different position during this second video.
Court documents unveiled a troubling history of domestic violence between Boone and Torres, leading up to the tragic incident. Both individuals had faced charges of battery against each other in Orange County, Fox 35 reported.
Records revealed that Boone was charged with battery by strangulation in July 2018. She claimed Torres had dragged her upstairs and kicked her in the right eye after she spoke to another man at a bar. At the time, Torres told investigators that she had tried to strangle him and that he had kicked her to prevent incapacitation. The affidavit stated that deputies were unable to determine the primary aggressor.
Torres himself faced battery charges three times in 2019. His most recent arrest occurred in September of that year when Boone accused him of punching her in the left ear, according to an affidavit.
During this period, a temporary injunction for protection was in place.

A Florida woman was arrested and taken into custody, after reportedly shooting her boyfriend over the volume of his snoring.
Initially, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office had thought that Lorie Morin, 47, had shot her boyfriend - named by police as Brett Allgood - accidentally, but after speaking to the victim, the police learned that Morin had shot her lover because he was reportedly snoring too loudly.
[[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/narcoticdesire_/status/1106178303478644738]]
Morin had first told law enforcement officials that the couple had been drinking together and playing the card game rummy, and that she had set the gun off accidentally while trying to retrieve a heavy box. But Allgood's testimony tells a different story - one of an argument over the victim's loud snoring.
An affidavit from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office says that Morin followed the victim to their bedroom, where she pointed a loaded shotgun at his head. The affidavit states: "He [Allgood] heard a loud boom and woke up lying in a pool of blood with excruciating pain coming from his right armpit area."
Allgood was airlifted to hospital after the incident, according to the affidavit, and deputies saw fit to re-interview Morin at the Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Services facility. Then, as law enforcement informed her of Allgood's testimony, Morin tried to change her story.
It was then that she gave a different account of events; the 47-year-old then claimed that rather than herself trying to retrieve a box, Morin said that her boyfriend had tried to remove the gun from her grasp, and that was when it went off.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office, however, were not convinced. The affidavit explains that all throughout the investigation, Lorie Morin had gone through a range of emotions.
"It should be noted that while Ms. Morin was in the interview room, she attempted to show emotion by covering her face with her hands and crying, but she never shed a tear the entire time during any of the interviews," explains the arrest affidavit.
Neighbours were reportedly shocked to learn of the development, with Samantha Bobier - who lives near the couple - in Cocoa, Florida, saying that she had learned of the attack on the news.
"I've talked to her a couple of times and she's always been really nice, and so the news is kind of shocking on it, honestly. To hear that it was over him snoring is kind of shocking. It's kind of crazy."
Robert Mason, another neighbour who knew the couple, described the incident as "bizarre". "It's so stupid, so bizarre that I can't imagined that kind of behaviour," he said, while another neighbour told of the moment where Morin was placed under arrest: "They [the police] must have been waiting for her. She pulled in, and then all the cars came rushing out of every direction."
Morin was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and remains jailed without bond at the Brevard County Jail Complex. She will be arraigned on April 9.

The body of Miya Marcano, the 19-year-old college student who went missing late last month, was found bound with duct tape in the woods near the home of suspect Armando Caballero.
Police revealed graphic details of the teen's murder while declaring there is "no doubt" Caballero is responsible for a pre-meditated confrontation that led to her death, ABC News reports.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina told a press conference that there was no indication of sexual assault despite the way her body was found near Caballero's Florida apartment complex on October 2.
"Miya was found bound with black duct tape on her feet and hands, and her mouth was also covered with black duct tape," he said, per CNN.
"The way she was found is she did have jeans on, her shirt was taken off, she was wearing a bra, there was a robe that was on her as well."
The orange shirt she was last seen alive in was found inside her purse, which was found nearby, he said.
Mina confirmed that Marcano had "rebuffed" the romantic advances of Caballero, who was a maintenance worker at the Arden Villas Apartments in Orlando.
Caballero, 27, was found dead in an apparent suicide after police had named him as the prime suspect in Marcano's death.
Marcano, who lived and worked in the building, went missing after a shift on Friday, 24 September.
Mina told reporters the fact he had illegally entered her apartment, with a maintenance key, earlier in the day, which led investigators to believe there was "some plan" in place.
"I don’t know what that is exactly, did he just plan on confronting her or did he plan this out, we’re not really sure, but we’re going to try and find those answers for Miya’s parents," he said, per CNN.
"There’s no doubt he was waiting for her knowing she was going to be coming home from work, and so whether she went willingly or not, I would speculate that she did not go willingly based on everything that we know thus far," he added.
Mina said they’re still waiting for the exact cause and manner of death from the medical examiner’s office, which could take "some time" as they await toxicology results.
"I’ll say again, Armando Caballero is the person responsible for Miya’s death, he is the only person that is involved in this case, we’re not looking for any other suspects, he is the one responsible for Miya’s death," he added.
