Donald Trump revealed that he was asked an unnerving question by Chinese President Xi Jinping, when it came to a highly controversial territory.
Every movement and interaction seems to have been hyper-analyzed by the media during Donald Trump's State visit to China this week, with all eyes on the US leader and President Xi.
A lot has unfolded in the last couple of days, with there seeming to be a scuffle between media outlets from the nations, as an operator was told to 'get the f*** out' in a chaotic video from the venue - all before the leaders sat down to discuss issues.
The heated exchange was caught on camera, with Trump posting the footage on his Truth Social account, captioning the video: “HOT MIC IN CHINA: 'Get the F*CK out of here!' unknown voice says as the press and cameras struggle when President Trump and Xi walk in.”
Body language experts have also looked into the exchanges between Xi and Trump, including what their handshake really meant.
But one of the hottest debated topics was to do with the region of Taiwan, as Xi shot a warning at Trump about how the US will handle ongoing tensions with Taiwan.
It was reported that Trump refused to answer questions about the subject, and he has now commented on these reports.
Trump claimed that he was asked if the US would defend Taiwan if an invasion occurred, adding tension to a concerning situation that may spark World War Three.
The US president admitted that they spoke about several topics, including the fate of Taiwan, during the diplomatic summit in Beijing.
He claimed that he refused to comment on the US's loyalty to Taiwan, following years of Xi's attempts to reunify the island with mainland China by any means necessary.
“There’s only one person that knows that, and it is me,” Trump claimed.
He also claimed that his Chinese counterpart formally asked about how protective he would be over Taiwan, saying: “That question was asked to me today by President Xi. I said, 'I don’t talk about that.'”
Trump told reporters of this conversation, while on Air Force One, claiming that he doesn't believe the Chinese leader wanted to start a conflict over the issue.
China is looking to plan an aggressive attack on Taiwan, increasing military exercises in the South China Sea surrounding Taiwan, as the nation believes it holds claims over the territory.
Taiwan's most important international backer and their weapons supplier is none other than the US, though there are no formal diplomatic ties.
Taipei has warned Beijing that they are ready for a war over the next couple of years, as China continue to intimidate them and act aggressively.
Taiwan's President, Lai Ching-te, announced that he aims to accelerate defence spending by £30.6billion to have a 'high level' of joint combat readiness by 2027.
He accused Xi of forcing his hand in this respect, with Taiwan vastly increasing its military spending over the last decade, though Trump and his administration have asked the island to do more to prepare itself.
Trump left Beijing earlier today, heading back to Washington after a seemingly successful visit.
Xi was not in attendance for Trump's grand farewell, which saw local schoolchildren chanting at him as he boarded Air Force One: “Farewell, farewell. Warm farewell!”
He described the trip as a 'really great couple of days,' pumping his fist at the top of the plane's steps, though he stopped short of making a speech.
Xi called the occasion a 'milestone visit,' adding: “We have established a new bilateral relationship, or rather a constructive, strategic, stable relationship.”
The President presented Xi with a peculiar question in the middle of their discussions at the exclusive Zhongnanhai gardens in Beijing.
Trump asked Xi through translators: “Can I ask the President: With other dignitaries from other countries, presidents or prime ministers, does he bring them here?”
Xi replied: “Very few. We usually don’t hold diplomatic events here.
"Even after we started having some, it’s still extremely rare. For example, Putin.”
Clearly pleased by the answer, Trump responded: “Good. I like it.”
