Cast your minds back to 2008 for a moment: Barack Obama was elected president, Kylie Jenner was still just an innocent tween, and pretty much every radio station in the world was blasting out Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" non-stop.

Now, flash forward a decade to the present day, and somehow we're still talking about Barack Obama, Kylie Jenner, and Katy Perry kissing girls - but for rather different reasons. In fact, Perry has been appearing in the news a fair bit recently, and hardly ever for her music career.

Most recently, for example, she caused a bit of a stir after fulfilling the prophecy of her first hit song by full-on snogging a woman's hand for an uncomfortable amount of time (and, presumably, liking it) while acting as a judge on this year's American Idol finale.

The incident happened backstage at the show this weekend, on which Rebecca ‘Becca’ Kufrin appeared to promote the next season of The Bachelorette. Kufrin was introduced by Ryan Seacrest, who had only just begun introducing her when he was suddenly interrupted by a slightly-frantic-looking Perry.

"Speaking of love, we have right here the next Bachelorette in the studio with us. Give it up for America's sweetheart, Becca Kufrin," the presenter said. He then went on to say, "This is very exciting," but was cut off by Perry suddenly declaring her affections for the star.

"Can I be in the running?" the California Girls star shouted.

She then went on to plant a kiss on Kufrin's hand... and then just sort of didn't stop.

Seacrest and the rest of the crowd looked on in nervous bemusement as Perry remained fixed in place - meanwhile Kufrin didn't really know how to react other than to laugh.

"I think she's looking to do another show," the host joked.

This prompted Perry to say: "I'm not single, but I still like you."

The singer then proceeded to go in for another round of kisses - this time not stopping until her fellow judge, Luke Bryan, literally dragged her away from the Bachelorette star. All the while, Seacrest was doing his best to stay on topic and ignore everything that was going on between Perry and Kufrin.

This whole incident happened just a week after Perry and Seacrest shared another awkward moment in which the host joked around with the judge about her not being a mom yet, and only a couple of months after the ET singer kissed a teenage boy on the mouth without his consent.

With regards to the latter occurrence, the boy that Perry kissed said, "I do not think I was sexually harassed by Katy Perry and I am thankful for the judges' comments and critiques. I was uncomfortable in a sense of how I have never been kissed before and was not expecting it."

Likewise, in the situation with Kufrin, it doesn't look as if the Bachelorette star feels "harassed" at all - just a little taken aback, perhaps.

Either way, in future, Perry should probably take a second to consider her actions before puckering up for strangers. Just a thought.
