Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are making headlines after resurfaced comments about their plans to donate their inheritance instead of leaving it to their children has sparked mixed reactions online.
The actors, who met playing on-screen couple Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart in That 70s Show, began dating in 2012, got married in 2015 and welcomed two children: daughter Wyatt, 11, and son Dimitri, nine.
Speaking on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in 2018, Kutcher revealed that the couple has no plans to set up trust funds for their children, instead pledging their $275 million fortune to charitable causes and “various things”.
The No Strings Attached star added that while they won’t receive direct inheritances, he and Kunis would financially support their kids if they came to them with a well-thought-out business plan, adding: "But they’re not getting trust [funds]," per The Independent.
Kutcher explained that the decision comes from wanting to ensure Wyatt and Dimitri grow up without entitlement. “They’re living a really privileged life, and they don’t even know it,” he said. “And they’ll never know it, because this is the only one that they’ll know.”
The Friends With Benefits actress has echoed that sentiment, telling Elle UK in 2017 that her goal is to avoid raising “a***oles," quipping: "We don’t need to contribute."
That same year, the couple skipped Christmas presents for their children to avoid excess. “We're instituting [no presents] this year because when the kids are [younger than] one, it doesn't really matter," she said.
"Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was two and it was too much. We didn't give her anything - it was the grandparents. The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don't even know what they're expecting; they're just expecting stuff," she added.
The couple's approach resurfaced when celebrity news account Pop Tingz tweeted about it, garnering more than 100,000 likes and over 26,000 retweets.
"Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis reveal they will donate their $275 million fortune to charity and not leave anything for their children," the post read. "They say they don't want their children to become spoiled and entitled, and want them to be motivated to work hard."
Reactions to their comments were divided as some people praised the decision in light of ongoing conversations about “nepo babies” - the term for children of famous or powerful parents whose family connections give them an advantage in their careers.
“What’s the opposite of a nepo baby?” one person wrote, while another joked: "I would get rid of my parents before they had the chance."
A third user said: "I understand the motivation, but set up a trust with some guidelines in place. This decision seems kinda terrible, frankly," and another questioned the point of having wealth: “It’s selfish to make loads of money while you’re alive spend a bunch of it on yourself and then give it away when you die and leave your children with nothing. Why even have kids?"
However, supporters of the couple’s stance noted that their children would still have access to the best resources and opportunities possible and wouldn’t need an inheritance to succeed.
"Good for them. Just with the famous family name they will have a lot of opportunities anywho," one commenter argued.
What do you guys think about their decision?

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have raised over $20 million for the people of Ukraine.
In a video posted to Instagram, the celebrity couple announced that their GoFundMe had hit $20 million in under a week - and that they're not finished yet.
In the clip, Kutcher thanked everyone who had donated and updated them on their progress, saying: "We want to give you a little update on our campaign to stand with Ukraine."
Check out their video right here:"We have raised over $20 million in under a week. I say we because it's all of us together," continued the actor, before thanking those who had donated as well as those who had spread the word about their campaign.
The former Two and a Half Men star went on to say that they are still $10 million shy of their goal - and that they weren't going to slow down anytime soon.
"But we're not done. Our goal's $30 [million] and we're gonna get there," he said.
Kutcher then handed over to his wife. "But we do want to say thank you to the 56,000 of you who were able to donate and support us. Whether it was the $5, $10, $1,000, whatever it was, means so much to us because it does bring in a community and a sense of belonging and an ability to help," said Kunis.
Her husband then went on to explain that donations were going towards Flexport to deliver "humanitarian aid" to non-governmental organizations helping provide shelter for Ukrainian refugees.
He added that some of the money was also being directed to Airbnb, who are helping to house those displaced by the conflict.
The couple has close ties to Ukraine, where Kunis was born in the city of Chernivtsi. She moved to America with her family in 1991, where she's lived ever since.
As well as receiving donations, Kunis and Kutcher have also pledged $3 million of their own money to their 'Stand With Ukraine' campaign.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have shared a video message to their fans after reaching over $16 million in donations for the people of Ukraine.
Last week, Kunis - who was born in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi - announced on her Instagram page that she had teamed up with her famous husband to raise funds for refugees fleeing the country.
Describing herself as a "proud Ukrainian", the 38-year-old Black Swan star announced that the couple would be matching up to $3 million in donations, with the end goal of raising $30 million.
Kutcher, 44, also shared a message of solidarity for the European country, tweeting: "I stand with Ukraine," as well as retweeting an image of the Ukrainian flag.
The couple launched a GoFundMe to help amass donations, with Mila explaining on the fundraiser that the money raised "will provide an immediate impact on refugee and humanitarian aid efforts. The fund will benefit Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, two organizations who are actively on the ground providing immediate help to those who need it most."
Now, the couple has released a video message after surpassing the halfway point:
In the video, Kunis says: "We just wanted to give you a quick update as to where we stand with the fundraising. We're halfway through... We're super-excited, and we want to say thank you to each and every single one of you. It's been an incredible past 48 hours."
The couple then introduced the CEO of Airbnb, Brian Chesky, and the creator of Flexport, Ryan Petersen, to allow them to further explain how the raised funds would be used.
After announcing that over 30,000 people had donated to the cause, Kutcher declared: "We're halfway there. We're at $15 million, and we're heading to $30. We're going to make this happen," before adding:
"There are some problems in the world that take a village to solve, and there are other problems that take the rest of the world. This is one of those other problems."
As of this writing, donations have continued to flood in, and the total now stands at over $16.9 million from over 45,000 donations.
Per NBC News, Filippo Grandi, the United Nations high commissioner for refugees, on Sunday estimated that over 1.5 million refugees had fled Ukraine following Russia's invasion on February 24.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have raised over $30 million for the people of Ukraine.
The celebrity couple announced that their 'Stand with Ukraine' campaign had hit its target in a video shared on their GoFundMe page.
"We just want to say that we hit our goal," Kunis told supporters in the clip. "Over 65,000 of you donated and we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support."
The Family Guy star went on to say that, while their fundraiser wasn't a solution, it would make a lot of Ukrainian people's lives easier.
"While this is far from solving the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing for so many people as they forge ahead into their future of uncertainty," she said.
According to their GoFundMe page, the couple plan to direct all the money they have raised towards organizations that "will provide an immediate impact on refugee and humanitarian aid efforts." These include Airbnb.org (who are helping to house refugees fleeing the conflict) and Flexport.org (who are shipping relief supplies to refugee sites).
"Our work is not done. We're going to do everything we can to ensure that the outpouring of love that came from you all as a part of this campaign finds the maximum impact with those in need," Kutcher continued in the video.
"As funding continues to come in we're going to treat every dollar as if it's being donated out of our pocket, with respect and honor for the work that went into earning it, with the intent of love through which it was given, and the desire for it to be maximized for a positive outcome for others," he added.
The couple has close ties to Ukraine, where Kunis was born in the city of Chernivtsi. She moved to America with her family in 1991, where she's lived ever since.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have poked fun at the attention they received after sharing that they only bathe their two young children when they are visibly dirty.
Last month, Kunis, 37, and Kutcher, 43, shared something that became a talking point for weeks: they wait until they see dirt on their two children - daughter Wyatt Isabelle, six, and son Dimitri Portwood, four - before giving them a wash.
Of course, people had a lot to say about Wyatt and Dimitri's infrequent bathing routine. And now, the famous parents are weighing in on the discussion that they, at the time, unknowingly sparked.
Taking to Instagram, Kutcher shared a video with his 4.3 million followers in which he and Kunis stood in their bathroom while their children - not in the shot - could be heard cleaning themselves with water.
The Two And A Half Men actor jests in reference to their newfound reputation: "You're putting water on the children? Are you trying to melt them? Are you trying to injure them with water? This is ridiculous. What's going on?"
The running joke started when Kunis and Kutcher appeared on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast last month and argued that "there's no point" in washing your kids unless they clearly have dirt on them.
"I didn't have hot water growing up as a child, so I didn't shower much anyway," Kunis said on the podcast.
"But when I had children, I also didn't wash them every day," she added. "I wasn't that parent that bathed my newborns - ever."
Kutcher chimed in: "Now, here's the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there's no point."
Later Shepard and his wife Kristen Bell revealed that they personally "wait for the stink" before bathing their own children.
"I'm a big fan of waiting for the stink," Bell said. "Once you catch a whiff, that's biology's way of letting you know you need to clean it up. I don't hate what they're doing. I wait for the stink!"
And apparently, a daily bathing routine isn't actually as necessary for the little ones as many might expect.
In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology Association explains that it is perfectly hygienic for kids from the ages of six to 11 to wash as little as once a week.
