There's no doubt that Blake Lively is one of the most instantly recognizable women in the world, and when she's taking to the red carpet alongside her husband Ryan Reynolds, the couple really does cut a dash.

However, when you're an actress of Blake's caliber, your job sometimes necessitates having to undergo a lot of makeup and prosthetics in order to transform yourself for a role.

It's hard to believe that someone like Blake Lively could ever be made to be unrecognizable ... but if the latest selfie uploaded to her official Instagram account is any indication, then someone has obviously managed the impossible.

Taking a picture of herself to promote her new movie The Rhythm Section, Blake can be seen with a bowl cut instead of her usual crown of golden locks and has had makeup applied to give her a somewhat-disheveled appearance.

Blake captioned the post: "Facetune broke. @therhythmsectionmovie (Both makeup looks by the incredible @vivianbaker?) [sic]"

The Rhythm Section is an upcoming movie directed by Reed Morano, which stars Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown alongside Blake Lively. The movie tells the story of  Stephanie Patrick, a woman who seeks to uncover the truth behind a plane crash that killed her family.

And Lively's followers couldn't get over the dramatic transformation:

After Patrick (who was supposed to be on the plane herself) discovers that the crash was not an accident, she personally embarks on a mission to track down those responsible by assuming the identity of an assassin.

Recently, Blake's husband Ryan Reynolds was almost crushed by a stage barrier in this dramatic footage:

The trailer for the upcoming film, which was delayed several times due to production issues, was released back in September, and if you give it a watch you'll see even more clearly just how much Blake has changed her appearance for this role.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are a total power couple, there's no denying that. Blake's busy right now storming down red carpets in perfectly tailored suits while promoting her highly anticipated new film (A Simple Favor, if you haven't heard), and Ryan is riding the second wave of success from the Deadpool sequel by launching his own gin company.

Ryan shared another promotional pic of his gin brand - this time a massive in-your-face picture of him sipping what looks to be a gin and tonic while looking smug and reclining in an old leather chair in front of a rustic wooden backdrop. Very suave.

But Blake was having none of it, and left a hilarious comment on Ryan's Instagram post to poke a bit of fun at her husband. "Who needs a mini van?! I'm driving this from now on," she wrote under the picture. "Subtle, gorgeous, and OHMYGAWNYOUREHUGE."

Blake joked about how "huge" her husband was, which – if you know them at all – is obviously their special way of showing affection to one another.

It is, of course, not the first time the pair have trolled each other. Though the post marks the pair's sixth wedding anniversary (they got married on 9 September 2012), you'd think they're a fresh new couple based on the way they are always playfully flirting with each other on social media.

The actress is also an expert at poking fun at herself, as evidenced by her recent appearance on The Tonight Show, where she regaled Jimmy Fallon about the time she once thought a reporter was complimenting her "tits", when in fact he was talking about her tweets.

It happened during the premiere of Blake's new movie, A Simple Favour, where she wore a shirt that she feared was completely see-through. "You know when you’re freaking out about something and you know that’s all anyone else is seeing," she told Fallon. "You know, you’re aware of it, so everything everyone says is, like, pointing out this thing you’re paranoid about, that no one’s really noticing."

While she was thinking about the state of her allegedly see-through ensemble, Blake accidentally thought that a male reporter shouted, "your tits are amazing" to her on the red carpet. "I’m like, wait excuse me? And he's like, 'your tits are amazing!' And I'm like are we saying that? Is this...have you been on Google in the past year? Like, this is not okay."

The man went onto say, "And your husband’s tweets are even better!"

"I’m like, 'Oh, tweets! Twitter! My tweets are amazing! Tweets!' It was like, oh my gosh. I was so relieved it was about my mind, and then after I was like, 'But how are my…How are they?'" Blake continued.

There's always something dramatic happening on Instagram and today it's Blake Lively's account.

Very often we can rely upon the actress to be hilariously trolling husband Ryan Reynolds or stunning OOTD posts, but not anymore. The 32-year-old actress, best known for her role as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl, has deleted all of her posts... except for one.

The only post to survive Lively's Insta purge is a trailer for her upcoming movie, The Rhythm Section; a thriller costarring Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown.

So, in short, all of her adorable pictures of herself and husband Ryan Reynolds and her iconic Instagram clapbacks are now gone (but never forgotten).

But because it's only the movie trailer that remains, it looks like this was a strategic movie on Lively's part to draw attention to it, and clearly, it's working, with some going as far as to say that Lively looks like a completely different person in it.

It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time that Lively has behaved unusually on Instagram with a specific goal in mind. Last year, she and Reynolds only followed accounts with her character Emily Nelson's name.

This resulted in a hilarious response from Reynolds when he discovered that Lively had unfollowed him.

"It definitely stings," he told Australian radio presenter Smallzy. "It's a terrible way to find out that I've been kicked out of the house, to be honest. Absolutely terrible. I don't know where rage like that comes from."

Then, while promoting A Simple Favor, Lively only wore suits for a month - even in the sweltering August heat, which, needless to say, garnered a lot of extra publicity for the movie.

Why? Because her character, Emily, is a publicist to Marc Jacobs-esque designer and wears a lot of suits.

Meanwhile, in other Blake Lively news, last month she and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their third child.

Ryan Reynolds was in utter awe at his wife Blake Lively's stunning dress transformation on the 2022 Met Gala red carpet - and fans are loving it.

The Gossip Girl alum, 34, was joined by the Deadpool star, 45, at Monday's incredibly glitzy Met Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City.

The theme this time around was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" and the dress code was "Gilded Glamour" - with the beloved Hollywood couple co-chairing the annual event alongside Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

In any case, Lively arrived on the red carpet wearing a rose gold Atelier Versace gown adorned with a sizeable bow. And a real highlight at the star-studded occasion was the moment Reynolds watched as his wife's striking gown morphed into a brand new ensemble when the bow was unfurled.

When assistants on the red carpet untied the actress' bow, the already extravagant dress revealed a mostly turquoise layer with a matching turquoise train. And doting husband Reynolds was as stunned by the transformation as the spectators as he beamed and applauded his wife of nearly a decade.

Needless to say, fans couldn't wait to share their thoughts on Reynolds' adoring reaction to his wife's extravagant outfit.

One person wrote: "Get yourself a man that looks at you the way Ryan Reynolds looks at Blake Lively at the met gala, because just look at this — the way he’s hyping her up."

Another said: "I WANT THIS KIND OF MAN *manifest manifest manifest*."

As incredible as this transformation was, it certainly isn't the first one to take place on the Met Gala red carpet.
