A night of gun violence in New York City has left two people dead and seven wounded.
The gunshot victims included an eight-year-old boy, as well as the two people who were stabbed and two more who were slashed across Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, according to New York Post.
One of those who lost their lives was a 27-year-old woman who died in her Harlem apartment after being stabbed by her ex-boyfriend at about 8:45 PM.
According to police, the woman was able to stab her attacker before she succumbed to her injuries, striking him in the neck and in his chest.
The man was reportedly left in a critical condition after the woman fought back.
Two hours later, a 33-year-old man went on to lose his life inside an East Flatbush building.
There was also a drive-by shooting at about 9:45 PM in St. Albans, Queens, which injured three people including the eight-year-old boy and his 39-year-old father.
A 57-year-old man also found himself caught up in the gunfire.
The two suspects fired the bullets from two suspects in a dark-colored sedan on 178th Street near 119th Road in St. Albans, as per New York Post.
The eight-year-old was shot in the shoulder and his father was hit in the leg.
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old's ankle was grazed by the bullets, according to police and sources.
It is believed that the boy's father who has gang links was the target of the attack.
According to police sources, another three men were shot on Wednesday night, with two of the shootings taking place in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn.
Then, at around 10:10 PM, a 54-year-old woman was knifed at random inside the 14th Street-Union Square station.
Sources said that a man who arrived at the Brooklyn Hospital Center with a cut on his face explained that he had been injured during an interaction inside the Fulton Street subway station.
The violence in the city was subsequently slammed by the NYPD's Sergeants Benevolent Association.
"DON'T BLAME US …the Cops didn't change the laws in NYC the elected officials in NYS and City Council did!!" the group tweeted.

Multiple people were shot during an incident at a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday morning, ABC News reports.
There were also "several undetonated devices" found, the Fire Department of New York said.
At least 13 people sustained injuries during the incident, the fire department confirmed, per NBC News. It is not known how many of these victims were shot.
According to sources, some of those injured in the attack fled the scene by jumping on a train.
Per CNN, a senior law enforcement official said that a preliminary investigation into the incident showed that a potential smoke device was detonated at the station.
The shooting started at around 8:30 AM and the fire department was called to the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood following a report of smoke.
According to authorities, a male suspect - potentially wearing a gas mask and orange construction vest - fled and is currently at large. The man, believed to be 5-foot-5 and weigh 180 pounds, was allegedly seen throwing a device in the subway station before shooting a firearm.
Law enforcement is instructing the public to avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, where emergency responders have attended the scene.
The NYPD said in a tweet: "Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn. Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who tested positive for Covid-19, has been briefed about the mayhem that took place this morning, his spokesperson Fabien Levy confirmed.
"While we gather more information, we ask New Yorkers to stay away from this area for their safety and so that first responders can help those in need and investigate," Levy said on Twitter.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates the subways, are also carrying out a probe into the incident.
President Joe Biden has been briefed about the attack and senior members of staff at the White House are in contact with Adams and Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
Our thoughts are with the people of Brooklyn at this time.

A lone gunman opened fire Monday evening (July 28) inside a high-rise office tower in Midtown Manhattan, killing four people (among them a New York City police officer) and injuring another, according to law enforcement officials.
Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The attack, which began around 6:30PM, triggered an active shooter response. Crowds of office workers were seen evacuating the building with hands raised as emergency teams secured the scene.
Shooter’s Motive
Officials told NBC News that a note left at the scene suggested the gunman expressed frustration about his mental health issues, speculating they may have stemmed from CTE from playing football.
Investigators are now examining whether this belief influenced his decision to target 345 Park Avenue, a building that houses the NFL’s headquarters.
The investigation remains in its early stages.
The Victims
Among the dead is NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, 36, a father of two with a third child on the way. Islam, who immigrated from Bangladesh, served the 47th Precinct in the Bronx and had been with the force for three and a half years, CNN reports.
“He was doing what he was trained to do, protecting lives,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “He made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch echoed that sentiment, calling Islam a hero. “He put himself in harm’s way,” she said. “He was shot in cold blood while wearing a uniform that stood for the promise he made to this city.”
Three civilians also died in the attack. Their names have not yet been released. One additional person was seriously wounded.
The NFL confirmed that one of its employees was among the injured. “He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a message to staff. “We believe all other employees are safe and accounted for.”
Goodell also expressed gratitude to law enforcement, adding: “We are deeply grateful to Officer Islam, who gave his life to protect others.”
The Suspect
The gunman has been identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas. Surveillance images show Tamura entering the Park Avenue office tower dressed in dark clothing and sunglasses, carrying a large firearm.
Authorities recovered a note, weapon, ammunition, and Tamura’s cellphone at the scene, according to ABC News. The note reportedly referenced “CTE,” or chronic traumatic encephalopathy (a brain condition linked to repeated head injuries) as a possible source of his mental health struggles.
A former high school classmate, Caleb Clarke, described Tamura as energetic, funny, and outgoing. The two had played football together in California. “You never would’ve expected violence from him,” Clarke said, per NBC. “Shane was a jokester, always full of energy.”
Clarke added that Tamura once showed promise as an athlete, and others often praised his potential. “I think people believed he could really go far in football,” he said.
The Location
The shooting occurred at 345 Park Avenue, a high-rise that houses major tenants including investment giant Blackstone, the NFL, KPMG, and a Bank of America branch.
Blackstone, Bank of America, and the building’s owner, Rudin Management, have not issued public statements. KPMG responded with a message of sympathy: “Our hearts go out to the victims of this horrific act and their families. We are incredibly grateful for the bravery of building security and law enforcement.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full scope and motive behind the attack.

Three people were killed and eight others wounded early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted inside a Brooklyn hookah lounge and restaurant, multiple sources have reported, transforming what should have been a routine closing hour into a scene of chaos and tragedy.
According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, officers received multiple emergency calls reporting shots fired inside the Taste of the City Lounge, located at 903 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, just before 3:30AM. Responding units found a devastating scene: three men (aged 27, 35, and one whose age has not yet been released) were pronounced dead at the location.
The victims, all patrons of the lounge, were caught in the crossfire of what police believe involved multiple gunmen. At least 36 shell casings were later recovered, pointing to a barrage of bullets fired in the tightly packed space.
Sources indicated that a dispute inside the crowded venue may have sparked the violence, though details remain under investigation, the New York Times reports.
The eight additional victims, five men and three women ranging in age up to 61, were rushed to nearby hospitals. Thankfully, police confirmed their injuries were non-life-threatening. Still, the sheer number of people harmed underscores the magnitude of the incident.
No arrests have yet been made, but law enforcement officials say they are searching for multiple suspects. Detectives also recovered a firearm in the area of Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, though it is not yet confirmed whether that weapon was used in the shooting.
One witness, a 39-year-old man who declined to give his name, recalled the horrifying moment he saw a regular patron gunned down. “He’s a regular, he wasn’t doing nothing. Nothing to do with it … He’s just outside the bathroom, hitting a hookah, dead,” he told The New York Post, still shaken by the violence.
The aftermath left investigators combing through a narrow, crowded lounge that workers described as just 12 feet wide but stretching far back, lined with tables, a bar, and little space to escape once the shooting began.
Officers in hazmat suits were later seen inside, gathering evidence near pools of blood and broken glass. Police also canvassed nearby businesses, including a Foodtown grocery store next door, seeking surveillance footage that might provide additional leads.
Commissioner Tisch acknowledged the tragedy but emphasized that shootings overall remain at historic lows in New York City.
“We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year we’ve seen on record in the city of New York,” she said. “Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly, and it’s a terrible thing that’s happened this morning.”
Taste of the City Lounge, which opened in 2022 and advertises itself as offering American and Caribbean cuisine, hookah, DJs, and a full bar, was already known to authorities. The establishment was the scene of another shooting in November 2024, though that incident did not result in fatalities, according to The Guardian.
Police continue to appeal to the public for information. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has relevant footage is urged to contact detectives as they work to piece together how a night out ended with such devastating loss of life.
