A groom kicked his best man out of his reception after he ruined his "almost-perfect" wedding event.
Taking to Reddit's notorious 'Am I The A**hole' thread, a 30-year-old man asked social media users whether he acted too harshly when he kicked his best man out of his wedding reception.
Now, you may be wondering what this man could have possibly done to warrant a reaction like this.
Well, he proposed to his own girlfriend during his best man speech!
"The ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was even better," the anonymous user recalled. "Everything was going smoothly until the speeches."
He then stated that his best friend, who he referred to as "John", got up to give his best man speech.
"At first, it was full of the usual jokes and heartfelt stories, which everyone enjoyed," he continued. "But then, out of nowhere, he turned to his girlfriend (25F) and started talking about their relationship. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee, proposing to her right there in the middle of my reception!"
Big yikes.
"The room went silent. I could feel my wife's hand squeezing mine tighter and tighter. John's girlfriend said yes, and everyone started clapping and cheering, but I was fuming.
The groom went on to explain that he felt as though his special day had been "hijacked" and instead of the attention being on him and his wife - as it should have been - it was now on John and his girlfriend.
"After the initial shock wore off, I confronted John and told him he was out of line. He said he thought it would be a great surprise and assumed I would be happy for him. I told him he was selfish and inconsiderate, and I ended up kicking him out of the reception," the Reddit user wrote.
"...Some of our mutual friends are saying I overreacted and that I should have let it slide for the sake of our friendship. My wife fully supports my decision, but I'm starting to wonder if I was too harsh," he added before asking the all-important question: "AITA for firing my best man and kicking him out of my wedding for proposing during my reception?"
Social media users backed the groom, with many slamming the actions of his best friend.
"If he thought you'd be happy, why didn't he take two seconds before hand to clear it with you? NTA. Don't propose at other people's weddings," this user commented, while another agreed writing: "NTA! What the hell?! Talk about stealing someone’s thunder!!! That was your special day, and he robbed it from you!!"
A third stated that they would have "[fired] him from my life."
And another user added: "NTA, send him a bill for half the reception fee. He was too cheap to do it himself, so he had to hijack your day. I feel bad for his fiance he couldn't even put in enough effort to give her her own day to remember."

A young couple were left devastated after their special engagement moment was ruined by a woman walking into their space - and then pretty much refusing to leave.
Getting engaged is one of the biggest moments in many couples' lives. It can be a low-key moment or it can be a huge extravaganza, depending on what the couple prefers.
In most cases, there's a certain amount of planning that goes in to making sure that moment is picture-perfect, from choosing a ring to the location to get down on one knee, and even making sure someone is subtly on-hand to capture the magical moment on camera.
While most proposals go without too many hitches, this particular couple found that they ended up with an unwelcome guest ruining the video of the moment they got engaged.
The woman then "tries to look for something to fix" just to eke out her involvement in what was definitely not her moment, and started shuffling some of the decorations in the background around, as the couple's friends behind the camera motioned for her to leave.
Just to add the cherry on the cake, the woman then strides right past the camera as the couple kiss, completely ruining the shot.
While most would be furious at the tactless nature of the woman, thankfully Zenicca managed to see past her ruined engagement video.
She told her followers in the caption: "Please be mindful of other people's once in a lifetime event! You never know you're already ruining it. But I won't have this any other way! I'll redo this all over again."
Her followers took to the comments to share their thoughts, writing: "IT KEPT GETTING WORSE" and "U could excuse the first few seconds w good intentions but the rest I feel like we're just really bad manners and not having any self awareness."
Others added: "Omgggg it felt like she was there forever" and "Aw I could tell she had good intentions but was ignorant in the moment that she was slightly ruining something y'all would cherish forever."

A best man was asked to leave a wedding after a risky joke in his speech landed him in hot water.
Delivering a speech as the groom's best man is no easy feat. You're expected to pay tribute to the couple's romance, shower the bride with compliments, and share harmless anecdotes about the groom - all while making the guests laugh hysterically.
But there's a very fine line between straight-talking humor and causing unforgivable offense.
Just ask one particular best man who thought he'd executed his speech perfectly, only to be asked to leave moments after.
Taking to Reddit over the weekend, the best man in question recounted the painful gaffe.
He began: "Today I did a speech as I am best man at my friend's wedding. It was going so well and people were laughing at all the right times and getting all the jokes."
The best man continued: "To my credit, I had practiced it work for word and it sounded sincere the whole way through.
"The 2 areas I did struggle in were the length and saying something about the bridesmaids as I didn't know any of them and it was too hard to say something that sounded honest."
After discussing his speech with a few pals some days before the wedding, he decided it was best to improvise on the day so that it would sound a lot more authentic.
When it actually came down to the speech, the best man did well at first. However, he became a little too confident when he made what he thought was a harmless quip about the bridesmaids.
He said: "Bridesmaids, I am a bit short of time here and I don't really know you all so I'd just like to say that 5 out of 6 of you look stunning today... figure it out amongst yourselves".
Needless to say, it didn't go down well.
The best man recalled: "The room went dead and I knew id really f***ed up. One of them started crying and I didn't actually mean any of them it was literally just nonsense.
"When I went to apologize, without sounding mean, I realized that she isn't actually that good-looking and was significantly less beautiful than the other bridesmaids."
Apparently, the offense caused was so great that he was made to leave right then and there.
He shared: "The bride came up to me and just said, 'I think it's best you leave' and the groom just nodding behind her."

A woman who was excited about attending a wedding has sought advice after the invitation came with "unreasonable" demands.
Going to a wedding is usually a happy occasion, because how often are all the people you care about under the same roof at one time?
Sadly, this isn't always the case though, as some people find a way to upset their family and friends on their big day...
Posting on the "Am I Wrong" forum on Reddit, user Eden Capwell outlined the bizarre situation she found herself in.
She revealed that while she was "teary-eyed" at the invite and overflowing with happiness, things soon came crashing down.
"I picked up the notecard and read that and while my husband was invited ... I'd be in another room helping to babysit all the children there with several other female invitees. There's a special room for children at the church and that's where I'd be," she said.
Noting that she would still need to be in a formal dress in case she was in any photos, the invite also came with a link to a gift registry and informed the couple they needed to pay $100 each for their meal.
"The first problem here is that I am disabled at 50 years old. Legally. I use oxygen. I use a walker when I need to walk long distances. I sometimes have to give up the walker entirely and use a wheelchair," the Redditor wrote.
To top it off, she noted that she was the one who had been friends with the family since childhood, but it was her husband who would be the one to watch the ceremony.
"I grew up with the bride's mom as an almost sister to me. We went to school together, graduated together, worked at the same place twice, and have been super close since. The bride is like a goddaughter... at least I thought she was. I'm gobsmacked here," the post went on.
After a phone call with her lifelong friend, the Redditor was shocked at how unforgiving she was.
"THEN we got to the truth," she wrote. "She said that she didn't know if I'd be in a wheelchair that day or require a walker. That's fair. I don't always know which one I'll need. She said that they wanted everyone in pews for the wedding video and me sitting in a wheelchair would make me stick out and ruin video/photos."
The post continued: "Then she says, 'Well, space is limited in the pews. You would take up the space of two people with your purse and oxygen tank.'
"I said, 'No, I would not. I wouldn't bring a purse in and the oxygen tank either sits on my lap or between my feet.' (it's like a little backpack.)
"Then she said, 'Well, having you in oxygen in the photos would be distracting from the other people'."
Comments flooded in supporting Eden, with many stating that the invitation requests are "unreasonable".
One person wrote: "Send your and your husband’s regrets, and don’t send a gift. These people are clearly not the friends you thought they were. Everything about this invitation is just wrong."
A second person said: "You’re not wrong, this is tacky as hell! Do not go and I wouldn’t send a gift either. These people are clearly not real friends."
A third added: "Yeah, this is messed up. Inviting you just to babysit? Yikes. Definitely RSVP no and skip the gift. These folks don't deserve your presence, let alone a present."

1. Why exchange vows when you can trade punches?
"The sister of the bride who wasn't invited showed up drunk and got in a fight with the bride until the father of the bride broke it up by putting the sister in a choke hold and dragging her out of the venue."
2. The best man so often turns out to be the worst
"I worked weddings for a living, and once saw the best man get loaded, give a speech, and profess his love of the bride and how they had slept together two nights before."
3. Aww, personalised vows are the cutest
"When it came time to say the vows, he pulls out a sheet of paper and reads on for like 5 minutes, getting really intimate and pouring his heart out to her. It was kind of awkward tbh. But the icing on the cake was her response. When he was done, she just giggled loudly and awkwardly and got out "ditto!" That's it. That was her wedding vow. So freaking awkward."
4. Life pro tip: don't invite children to a wedding
"There was like an 8 year old boy who had loads of confetti in his hand so I didn't think much of it, turns out he thought it was sugar paper and ate all of, he then proceeded to projectile vomit everywhere through the middle of the ceremony. Was one of the funniest and most disgusting moments of my life."
5. Same rule applies to dogs
"Brother and sister-in-law thought it would be fun to have their dogs walked down the aisle after their flower girl spread the flower petals. The dogs thought mid-way down the aisle was the perfect place for a sh***ing photo-op on the white runner."
6. And relatives that can't hold their drink
"At a cousin's wedding my uncle was smashed and thought he'd had a stroke in the bathroom as he couldn't straighten himself. Turned out he'd buttoned his waistcoat to his trousers and couldn't stand up."
7. The reception is the best part anyway
"Bride never showed up. My cousin was the groom and had about 500 people in attendance. He got on the mic and said there's no bride, so we had the party anyway."
8. The mother of all fights
"Bride's step-mother and mother got into a fight. Step-mother bit the mother. Wedding went to a screeching halt."
9. It's amazing this guy made it so far in life
"After arriving 45 minutes after the ceremony was to begin, during the ring exchange, the groom gets this blank look and says he didn't know he was supposed to buy her another ring. SIL slipped off her wedding band and handed it off to the preacher."
10. If you're planning on doing this: don't
"During the best man speech, the best man proposed to the maid of honor. Totally stole the night from the bride and groom. Now the best man and maid of honor are in the process of divorcing."
11. How does that saying go? The family that fights together, stays together
"I worked at a wedding venue for 4 years. Having to stop a Bride's Stepdad from hitting her over the head with a chair was a highlight. The whole room were just fighting with each other, the best man kicked the Mother in Law."
12. Sometimes, though, everything goes to plan
And it's awesome.
[[rumblewidget||https://rumble.com/embed/u9m1b.vceit/]] So, if we've learned anything here, it's that you shouldn't let the bride's family near the alcohol, avoid inviting children at all costs, and for god's sake make sure you know what the best man is planning before he gets up and blurts out your biggest secret in front of 400 people.
