Britney Spears has just debuted a new tattoo and fans certainly have their theories over its meaning.

The 41-year-old has been making headlines over the past few weeks due to her social media antics ever since it was announced that her ex-husband Sam Asghari has filed for divorce after only one year of marriage.

The pair initially met back in 2016 when the 29-year-old personal trainer earned himself a spot as a performer in the singer's 'Slumber Party' music video.

From a professional relationship, the two entertainers quickly moved to a more intimate one after getting to know each other.

Check out Britney's new tattoo:

During a 2017 interview, Spears recalled meeting Asghari: "I was like, 'He was really cute, this guy was really cute,' so I called him. He's just a really fun, funny person."

The couple went on to tie the knot in the summer of '22, but unfortunately, just 14 months later, it seems as though they've re-considered their commitment to one another.

According to TMZ, the 29-year-old cited "irreconcilable differences" as the defining reason as to why he decided to end their marriage. Rumors of infidelity have also circulated during their time together, contributing to further toxicity within their relationship.

Insiders revealed that the split was anticipated, with a source sharing: "It's only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce," shortly after news of their separation emerged in the media.

Asghari was the first to address the situation, telling his Instagram followers that despite the separation, he will always want what's best for his ex-wife.

"After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together," Sam wrote. "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always."

Spears also addressed the situation on her Instagram alongside a video of herself letting loose at her Thousand Oaks home.

"As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together... 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but...I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business," the star wrote.

She continued: "I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly !!! In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you."

The 'Toxic' hitmaker explained that she had been "playing it strong" and the version of herself that she portrays on social media isn't true to what was happening behind the scenes.

"I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses," she said. "If I wasn’t my dad’s strong soldier, I would be sent away to places to get fixed by doctors."

Stating that she needed her family the most and wanted to be loved unconditionally, Spears concluded: "So I will be as strong as I can and do my best !!! And I’m actually doing pretty damn good !!! Anyways have a good day and don’t forget to smile !!!"

However, just a few weeks on from her newfound freedom, Spears has now decided to get a new tattoo.

Sharing footage to social media, the 41-year-old showed off the process behind the new body art, which rests just above her iconic fairy tattoo on her lower back.

"My new snake tattoo guys," she gushed. "I'm so excited."

She also posted a video of the artist actually tattoo-ing it onto her body saying: "It doesn't hurt that bad, actually."

Given all the drama in her life recently, fans speculated who the "red snake" was aimed at with some pointing fingers at her ex-husband, while others also picked out particular family members... Big yikes.

Taking to Twitter, many expressed their opinions.

"Not Britney getting a tattoo of (sam the) snake. We hear you girl," wrote one user while another questioned: "Is this cause Sam is a snake?"

A third pointed out the possible meaning behind the tat writing: "That symbolizes that she’s been carrying snakes on her back for whole life."

And these users decided they weren't going to let Spears' younger sister Jamie Lynn breath.

"Britney got a new tattoo of her sister, Jamie Lynne."

"NOT A JAMIE LYNN TATTOO," another also chimed in.

Who do you think the tattoo is aimed at?

Either way, we're just glad Spears is happy and living her life to the fullest.
