A third child of Brad Pitt's has made the decision to remove his name from her last name, following siblings Maddox and Shiloh.
Things have remained hostile in the decade following Pitt's divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2016, as tension between the dad and his children has continued to build.
Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt has decided that she will no longer bear her father's last name, in a move to distance herself from the Inglorious Basterds actor.
After turning 21 in January and graduating from college in May, she has formally applied to legally remove "Pitt" from her last name.
CBC News obtained court documents that revealed that Zahara filed to change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie on June 5, just four days after her brother, Maddox, 24, did the same, applying to change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
Both Maddox and Zahara made the move two years after their younger sibling, Shiloh, was officially granted a filing to drop "Pitt" from her surname on her 18th birthday in May 2024.
Zahara took early steps to distance herself from her estranged father, as she chose to have her name read out as Zahara Marley Jolie, at her college graduation ceremony at Spelman College in Atlanta.
A source close to Pitt said to The Independent in a statement: “It’s sad to see one parent alienate their children from the other.”
Jolie, 51, and Pitt, 62, split after being together for over a decade, and share six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; Shiloh, 20; and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.
Maddox's name change was publicly announced when he was named in the credits for Angelina’s recent film Couture, on which he was an assistant director.
As a teenager, Zahara dropped the Pitt name in November 2023, introducing herself as Zahara Marley Jolie in an introduction video for the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at her college.
She could be seen dancing with her sorority sisters in the video, saying: “My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. And [I] landed all the way from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California.”
Vivienne, though still a minor, was credited as Vivienne Jolie in a Playbill for The Outsiders, a Broadway play which she helped her mom produce.
It is believed that the family tensions stemmed from a 2016 airplane incident where Pitt allegedly got into an intense argument with his wife and children.
An FBI investigation into child abuse allegations resulted in no charges being made, though a detailed account of events that day was made public during the A-list couple's divorce.
Documents revealed that Jolie claimed her ex-husband's behavior on a private flight had scared their children, who were aged between eight and 15 at the time.
She further alleged that Pitt lunged at one of their kids, prompting her to restrain him "in a choke hold," before she filed for divorce the following day.

Brad Pitt's estranged relationship with several of his children has made headlines once again.
According to legal documents obtained by Us Weekly on May 28, the 62-year-old's eldest son, Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt, has filed paperwork requesting that his name be changed to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
The move follows earlier signs that the 24-year-old had already begun distancing himself from the Pitt name professionally.
Earlier this year, Maddox worked as an assistant director on his mother Angelina Jolie's film Couture, which recently premiered in French theaters.
In the credits, he was listed as "Maddox Jolie" rather than his birth name, "Maddox Jolie-Pitt."
The 24-year-old is not the only member of the family to have stepped away from the Jolie-Pitt surname.
Jolie, 50, and Pitt share six children: Maddox, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 17.
Several of the siblings have either publicly or legally stopped using "Pitt" since their parents' split.
Earlier this month, Zahara graduated from Spelman College, where she was listed as "Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt" in the commencement program.
But she had already introduced herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie" during her induction into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in November 2023.
Vivienne also appeared to make the same choice in 2024. While helping produce The Outsiders alongside her mother, the teenager was reportedly credited in the Playbill as "Vivienne Jolie" rather than "Vivienne Jolie-Pitt".
Meanwhile, daughter Shiloh formally launched legal proceedings to remove Pitt from her surname on her 18th birthday in May 2024.
At the time, her attorney, Peter Levine, released a statement defending her decision.
"The media should be more careful in their reporting, especially when covering a young adult who has made an independent and significant decision following painful events, and is merely following legal process," Levine told PEOPLE.
The latest development comes almost a decade after Jolie and Pitt's highly publicized breakup.
The pair were married from 2014 until 2016 and have remained locked in legal disputes ever since.
In 2022, Jolie filed a lawsuit alleging that the F1 actor had been abusive toward her and their children during a 2016 flight, an incident she claims contributed to the end of their marriage.
Pitt's legal team has consistently denied the allegations.
The family development also arrives as Pitt deals with an unrelated lawsuit involving one of his business ventures.
The Oscar winner launched skincare company Le Domaine in 2022 with the Perrin wine-making family before rebranding the business as Beau Domaine last year.
According to AirMail, the new name has triggered legal action from Malibu skincare company Beau D., which alleges "trademark infringement, false designation of origin, and common-law unfair competition under California’s Business and Professions Code".
Beau D., founded by former Men's Vogue fashion editor Brandon Palas in 2020, reportedly tried to negotiate a private settlement three times before filing suit.
The company is seeking more than $75,000 in damages and a "permanent injunction" that would prevent Pitt's business from using the Beau Domaine name and branding.
"This isn’t about publicity or punishment," Palas said. "It’s about protecting the integrity of what we’ve spent years building and ensuring independent brands have the right to grow without being overshadowed or diluted."
At the time of reporting, Beau Domaine had not yet filed a formal legal response.

Another chapter has unfolded in the ongoing story surrounding Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s family.
Their eldest son, Maddox, 24, has officially dropped Pitt from his last name, eight months after his sister Shiloh made the same decision. The change came to light after his name appeared in the end credits of his mother’s new film as Maddox Jolie rather than Maddox Jolie-Pitt.
The credit was spotted following the release of Couture, which debuted in French cinemas earlier this week. Maddox worked on the drama as an assistant director, marking another step in his growing involvement behind the camera.
According to People, the shift was evident not only in the on-screen credits but also in official materials tied to the project.
As reported, "production notes for the film provided to journalists showed Maddox’s name was also listed as Maddox Jolie" when the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.
Previously, Maddox was credited as Maddox Jolie-Pitt when he worked as a production assistant on his mother’s biopic Maria, about opera legend Maria Callas.
In addition to Maddox, Jolie and Pitt share Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Maddox’s move follows a similar step taken by Shiloh in 2025. Born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, she legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie shortly after turning 18.
At the time, her attorney Peter Levine told People that she "made an independent and significant decision following painful events," adding that she was "merely following legal process" when publishing notice of the change.
He also clarified: "Shiloh Jolie did not take out an 'ad' announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate."
"As Shiloh's attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required."
The reported distance between Pitt and some of his children has been noted before. One source previously told People: "He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule."
In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie on the playbill for The Outsiders Broadway musical. A year earlier, Zahara, then a student at Spelman College, introduced herself without using Pitt’s last name during a sorority event.
"My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. And [I] landed all the way from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California," she said in a clip shared by Essence.
Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024, ending an eight-year legal battle. The split was highly contentious, and the former couple have also remained locked in a dispute over their French vineyard and estate after Jolie sold her reported $64 million stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021.
In June, Pitt spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the F1 premiere in Mexico City about life lessons and family.
"No matter the mistake, you just learn from [it] and move on," he said. "It’ll lead to the next success."
He continued: "When you get to my age, you realize how important it is to surround yourself with the people you love, the people that love you back."
"Friends, family, and that’s it,” he added. "From there, we get to go make things. It’s a pretty simple, I think, equation."

Shiloh, the daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has officially announced her new name in the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
The 18-year-old is one of six children shared by the Hollywood stars -- alongside twins Knox and Vivienne, 15, Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, and Zahara, 19.
The former couple welcomed Shiloh on May 27, 2006, in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Brad and Angelina, who started dating in 2004, tied the knot in 2014. However, just two years later, the Lara Croft star filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.
Declared legally single in 2019, the former spouses established a joint custody arrangement in 2021.
However, this arrangement was short-lived as the judge overseeing the case was disqualified due to his close business relationships with Pitt's legal team, per The Guardian.
In 2022, the 48-year-old actress filed a cross-complaint alleging that the Bullet Train star physically abused one of their children onboard a private jet in 2016.
According to legal filings obtained by The New York Times, the 60-year-old actor "choked one of the children and struck another in the face" and "grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her."
The documents also state that at one point: "He poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children."
Pitt vehemently denied the claims and was never charged following an FBI investigation into the allegations.
Shiloh has since gravitated toward her mother during the divorce, and two months after legally filing to drop "Pitt" from her name, she has taken another significant step.
The 18-year-old recently published an announcement in the Los Angeles Times, revealing her intent to change her name to Shiloh Jolie, previously Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
According to California law, a judge must have legal forms published in a newspaper for one month before approving a petition to change one's name. Once published, the request appears in the legal notice section of the paper.
A week after the petition was filed in May, a source close to Brad Pitt told PEOPLE that the father of six is "aware and upset" about the change.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” said the source. “The reminders that he’s lost his children are, of course, not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
“He’s still happy with Ines [de Ramon],” the source continued, but the distance from his children “pains him.”
“He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule,” the source said.
The source also noted that the couple's custody agreement allows visitation rights to their minor children, sharing: “[Angelina] has the kids most of the time, but per their agreement, he has visitation with the younger kids.”

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, who is the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has legally filed to change her last name.
The 18-year-old is one of six children the Hollywood stars share, along with twins Knox and Vivienne, 15, Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, and Zahara, 19.
The former couple welcomed their third child on May 27, 2006, in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Brad and Angelina tied the knot back in 2014, but just two years later, the Lara Croft star filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.
The former spouses - who started dating in 2004 - were declared legally single in 2019, and a joint custody arrangement was established in 2021. However, this arrangement was short-lived as the judge overseeing the case was disqualified due to his close business relationships with Pitt's legal team, per The Guardian.
In 2022, the 48-year-old actress filed a cross-complaint that contained allegations that the Bullet Train star physically abused one of their children onboard a private jet in 2016.
The filings, which were obtained by The New York Times, contended that the 60-year-old actor "choked one of the children and struck another in the face" and "grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her".
It also states that, at one point, "he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children."
Pitt vehemently denied the claims at the time and was never charged following an investigation into allegations of abuse.
It's no secret the Fight Club star has allegedly had a strained relationship with some of his children since he separated from Jolie.
This week, it was reported by TMZ that Pitt's daughter Shiloh has now legally filed to officially change her last name to "Shiloh Jolie".
The documents reveal that she selected "personal" as the reason for wanting to drop her dad's last name. She filed the paperwork on May 27, which was her 18th birthday.
This report comes just days after it was discovered that her sister, Vivienne, made a similar move on the playbill for the new Broadway musical The Outsiders, where she serves as an assistant to the producer - who happens to be her mother, Angelina.
The program for the play reportedly listed the 15-year-old as “Vivienne Jolie,” omitting the “Pitt” from her name.
In addition to this, the former couple's eldest adopted daughter, Zahara, also introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” after joining a sorority at Spelman College in Atlanta.
The Maleficent star opened up about her divorce in a 2020 interview with Vogue, revealing that she separated from Pitt for the “wellbeing” of her family.
“It was the right decision,” she said. “I continue to focus on their healing. Some have taken advantage of my silence, and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds. In fact, they are six very brave, very strong young people.”

Shiloh Jolie has officially dropped "Pitt" from her last name.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter Shiloh has officially been granted her name change after her petition to do so was previously put on hold.
In July, the 18-year-old's request to drop her father's last name was postponed after a court delayed her hearing due to an incomplete background check.
"Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today's hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19," her lawyer Peter Levine said at the time in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
"Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of clerical error, Shiloh's hearing has been continued to a new date," it statement added.
The outlet has now reported that the teen, who was previously known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, will now legally go by Shiloh Jolie.
It comes after reports of a strained relationship between Shiloh and her father.
In September 2016, we learned that Jolie had filed for divorce from her then-husband, Pitt. According to court documents, she cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split and requested physical custody of their six children and visitation for Pitt.
It was added that the actress did not request child or spousal support.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the time, Jolie's attorney told the outlet that this decision was made for the "health of her family."
"Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time," the statement said.
In response, Pitt said: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Things only continued to get messier as the highly publicized divorce played out.
In 2021, Pitt lost all visitation rights with his kids due to a violation of "his ethical obligations," as per a ruling by Judge John Ouderkirk who oversaw the case at the time.
When discussing the separation publicly for the first time, the 49-year-old told the Guardian that she's not "the kind of person who makes decisions like the decisions I had to make lightly."
"It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children," she continued before adding: "I mean, in some ways, it's been the last decade. There's a lot I can't say."
In a cover story with Vogue last year, the star also commended her children for being the reason that she's still alive today in what is seemingly a bittersweet point in her life.
"I was 26 when I became a mother," she told the outlet. "My entire life changed. Having children saved me — and taught me to be in this world differently."
Alongside Shiloh, the Maleficent star is also a mom to Pax, Zahara, Maddox, Vivienne, and Knox.
"I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them. They’re better than me because you want your children to be. Of course, I’m the mother, and hopefully that safe place for them and that stability.
"But I’m also the one that they laugh at - and I see them taking over so many different aspects of our family," she added.
