A number of Chris Pratt's Avengers co-stars have come to his defense after he was branded the "worst Hollywood Chris" on social media.

It all stemmed from a fairly innocent tweet asking, seemingly in jest, which of the Chris's out of Pratt, Pine, Evans, and Hemsworth should be dropped from Hollywood.

"One has to go," wrote Amy Berg on October 17, along with an image of each of the actors.

The tweet then sparked a stream of accusations towards Pratt specifically. Soon after, the actor started trending on the social media platform and was trolled mercilessly.

Critics took to Twitter to slam his perceived political beliefs and the fact that he defended his church from accusations of homophobia last year.

Ellen Page was one of the critics of Pratt's church, which she said was "infamously anti-LGBTQ" in a tweet from February 8, 2019.

Although Page did not identify the church by name, the 41-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy star responded in an Instagram Story, saying per Variety:

"It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which 'hates a certain group of people' and is 'infamously anti-LGBTQ.' Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone."

In response to the backlash, Avengers actors Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and Robert Downey Jr. came to Chris' defense.

"You all, [Chris Pratt] is as solid a man there is," Mark Ruffalo, who portrays the Hulk in the franchise, tweeted. "I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule."

"This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now," he added.

Downey Jr. took to Instagram to say: "What a world... The 'sinless' are casting stones at my brother, Chris Pratt... A real Christian who lives by principle has never demonstrated anything but positivity and gratitude."

He added: "AND he just married into a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value."

Downey Jr also said the critics should simply delete their social media accounts.

"Sit with your OWN defects of character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness," he said.

Saldana, quoting a Tupac lyric, wrote: "No matter how hard it gets, stick your chest out, keep your head up and handle it - Tupac.

"You got this [Chris Pratt]. Your family, friends, colleagues & everyone who’s ever crossed paths with you knows your heart and your worth!"

Not everyone took to kindly to the Avengers cast's response to the backlash, with many accusing them of double standards.

"So when Zendaya, Chadwick, Anthony Mackie + Brie Larson, etc [were] getting dragged through the mud for their [MCU] roles it was crickets from the avengers assemble hive," one person wrote.

"But when Chris Pratt is being called out for being a trump supporter here come the defense squad," they added.

Another tweet read: "Where was this energy when people attacked Tessa Thompson for being [cast] as Valkyrie, where was this energy when Zendaya was attacked for being [cast] as MJ."

"Where was this energy when Brie Larson was being attacked for speaking up on the lack of diversity in the industry."

Pratt has yet to comment on the backlash.
