Kelly Preston has posted a very poignant photo to her Instagram, dedicated to the late son she shares with husband, John Travolta.

It has now been over a decade since Jett passed away at the age of 16, and the 56-year-old actress decided to celebrate her son 10 years after his tragic death by sharing the special snap.

In the picture, Preston and Travolta lay on either side of Jett's bed, with their son smiling in between the pair as they lovingly kiss him on either side of his face.

The black-and-white photograph, posted on Saturday, was captioned:

"To my sweet love, Jett... you are in our hearts forever. I send love to all of the beautiful autistic children and the wonderful people who love them. May we all shine and grant love and respect to children with special needs."

Needless to say, the heartfelt post was met with a great deal of support for the family.

First and foremost, Travolta himself responded to the upload with a heart emoji - but he certainly wasn't the only one moved by the sentiments behind the post.

"He was so handsome," one user wrote. "My heart breaks for you both, still. Hard to believe it's been 10 years."

"I have adhd and aspergers so I’m with you guys on autism awareness," another added.

"Thank you for being so honest and open," wrote a third. "I’m so so sorry for this loss. He was beautiful. People -strangers-really saw that."

"I remember the day I heard of this sad news I was so heartbroken for you all. Blessings to your family," a fourth user agreed.

Jett died in a tragic accident while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas back in January 2009. He hit his head on a bathtub during a seizure and unfortunately sustained fatal injuries.

Three years later in 2012, Travolta revealed in an interview with BBC Breakfast that he was so devastated by the loss that he had considered ending his illustrious film career.

Preston and Travolta have always been very open about the fact that their son was on the Autism spectrum, and so the fact that the post coincides with Autism Awareness Month makes it all the more special.
