Megan Fox has responded to claims that she is an anti-masker after a fake Instagram post went viral.
The 34-year-old actress was slated after a post, which was photoshopped to make it appear as though she had written it, suggested she was an anti-masker.
In the fake post, Fox appeared to write:
"I noticed comments on social media questioning my decision to 'not wear a mask' in public. While I appreciate the concern of my fans and others, it is ultimately my decision to trust the universe to keep me and my family safe.
"We are okay. The fans I met did not have any issues and if they did, I would have gladly given them space or put one on since I always carry one with me for the comfort of other people.
"Ultimately I do not think bullying is the way to go about this. Please respect our beliefs, values, privacy."
As reported by PEOPLE, the fake screenshot went viral in a tweet that has since been deleted. Also posted in the tweet was a photo of Fox - who is seen holding two face masks in her hand - with her boyfriend, Machine Gun Kelly.
The post was photoshopped from a genuine post by the Transformers star from back in 2014, in which slammed those who bully others.
Taking to her Instagram Story on February 19, Fox addressed the controversy and informed her 10.3 million followers that she is not responsible for the recent viral post.
She wrote:
"I’ve never made any statements regarding wearing masks. Scary that you can go viral and possibly be socially crucified for something you haven’t done. The internet is so FUN."
A number of people have since taken to Twitter to comment on the false social media post.
One person wrote: "Why would somebody even photoshop something like that? Like what in the f**k is wrong with people? AND WHO HAS TIME TO F**K WITH PEOPLE LIKE THAT??"
Another wrote: "Isn't this so scary? because whatever we may say we all might have created a bad image of someone just from a second's read with no knowledge if it's real or not."
A third said: "Stop tearing down successful women."
