The 2021 Met Gala saw Kim Kardashian and her sister Kendall Jenner serve two very different looks, and the internet can't quite get over it.
Kendall, 25, wore a Givenchy gown reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn's in My Fair Lady, and it was decorated with a gorgeous crystal design and long train, Harpers Bazaar reports.
Big sister Kim Kardashian, on the other hand, wore an all-black outfit which included a full face mask designed by Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga.
The two sisters' outfits couldn't have been more different, and the pair became an instant meme when a photograph of them standing together was posted online.
Comparing the two sisters, one Twitter user wrote: "Glinda The good witch and a dementor #MetGala"
A second joked: "Kim looks like the Grim Reaper coming to collect Kendall's soul."
A third wrote: "me and my anxiety when i go out #MetGala #MetGala2021 [sic]"
A fourth Twitter user shared a picture of Kim and Kendal and wrote: "when you don't unlock the next character until level 23 #MetGala #MetGala2021 #KimKardashian."
A fifth shared a picture of the two sisters speaking and wrote: "Kendall: Kim, is that you? Kim: oh my god, Kendall? I can’t see you."
A sixth added: "POV: you're kim kardashian at the #MetGala [sic]"
A seventh wrote: "Kendall: OMG Kim. You look like a DASH mannequin. What tf were you thinking?!
"Kim: Um. You can see me?
"Kendall: You're wearing black. You're not invisible.
"Kim: Oh. #MetGala #MetGala2021 #KimKardashian"
While 40-year-old Kim's outfit might have shocked many at the Met Gala, it may have come as no surprise to some eagle-eyed fans who will have noted that this is not the first time she has recently worn a head-to-toe black outfit.
She wore a black leather dominatrix-style outfit when she arrived in New York ahead of the Met Gala, and as was the case at the event itself, her long, dark ponytail could be seen poking out of the back of the outfit.
The Daily Mail reports that this outfit was also made by Balenciaga and included a full facemask.
