Pregnant Katy Perry tells crowd she wants a girl

Katy Perry announced that she's pregnant with her first child with actor, Orlando Bloom, last week, and now she's revealed which gender she'd prefer her baby to be.

The 35-year-old singer was midway through performing Wide Awake at the closing ceremony for the Women's Cricket World Cup Final in Melbourne, Australia when she made the announcement.

Pausing for a moment, Perry lifted her microphone and told her fans, "I hope it's a girl!" Applause erupted before Perry launched back into the pop song.

Perry confirmed her pregnancy in her new music video for Never Worn White, in which she dons a variety of elegant pieces, including a white gown and a floral number. At the end of the short film, the singer is seen cradling her baby bump.

Per the Independent, Katy later took to Instagram Live to confirm the news with her tens of millions of fans, saying;

“There’s a lot that’s happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth, literally, and figuratively… to something you guys have been waiting for.

“I’m excited, we’re excited, and happy. It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. I thought I would tell you guys in the best way through a piece of music. While it’s not the lead single, it’s a good way to start out. I had to reveal it [the pregnancy] at some point."

She added, regarding the pregnancy "It’s getting pretty obvious."

Katy and Orlando got engaged on Valentine's Day in February of last year, after three years of dating. Orlando Bloom is father to nine-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
