When actor Quinton Aaron woke up from a coma after suffering a spinal cord injury, he made a shocking discovery about his wife of two years.
It was revealed that Margarita DeLeon was still married to a man she thought she had divorced many years ago.
The 41-year-old actor and star of The Blind Side, Aaron, had collapsed. He was hospitalized and then placed in a coma for four days on life support. His family later revealed that he had suffered a spinal stroke.
Aaron claimed the discovery of his wife’s previous marriage came after she was removed from his hospital room by doctors because she could not legally make medical decisions on his behalf.
During his hospital stay, a lawyer uncovered proof that DeLeon was still married to the man she had wed in 1992, despite her wedding to Aaron in 2024.
In an interview with ABC News, Aaron said: "The entire time we were together, she told me she had been divorced for 10 plus years.
“She even told the person where we were getting married, 'Oh yes, I have all the documents. I can email over to you the divorce decree.'"
Aaron told the outlet: “If I had a chance to do it over, I would have done my due diligence.”
Awkwardly, DeLeon disputed Aaron’s account in another interview that aired on the same day, Monday, April 20, on Good Morning America, saying that she was not aware that her divorce had not been finalized.
She recounted telling her new husband while he was in hospital, saying: “I said, 'Bibi, this information that your family pulled up on me, you know, I wasn't aware of it.'"
It is currently unknown how the couple plans to navigate their marriage now or if the necessary steps are being made to finalize DeLeon’s previous marriage.
Since the stroke, Aaron has spoken about his road to recovery, saying: “I started paying attention to my body because I found out, over the years, it was speaking very disrespectfully to me, and I was ignoring it.”
The actor is best known for his lead role in the football biopic The Blind Side, in which his character, a homeless teenager, becomes an NFL player after being taken in by the Tuohy family, played by Oscar-winning Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw.
