Angelina Jolie has spoken out about reports that her new movie, Eternals, has been banned in several countries due to the fact it features a same-sex relationship.
Eternals hits movie theaters today and is Marvel's latest installment into the internationally popular MCU. The follows the latest heroes to grace our screen, a group known as the Eternals - a race of superhumans from the planet Olympia, sent to Earth to protect humanity.
Jolie stars as Thena, an elite warrior Eternal who is able to conjure weapons out of cosmic energy.
However, The Hollywood Reporter has recently published an article regarding rumors that the movie was met with edit requests from countries in the Gulf region. THR states that Disney was not willing to make the edit requests, which were reportedly requested due to "local censors".
As a result, THR reports that the movie has been removed online from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar - all nations where homosexuality is illegal, per news.com.au.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that sources have suggested that the decision has "likely" been made due to the fact that Eternals features the MCU's first gay superhero, Brian Tyree Henry's character Phastos.
The outlet adds that one scene in the movie shows Phastos sharing a passionate kiss with his husband, Ben (played by Haaz Sleiman).
And during a press conference earlier this week, 46-year-old Jolie responded to the reports, telling news.com.au: "I'm sad for [those audiences]. And I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut those scenes out."
The Maleficent star added: "I still don’t understand how we live in a world today where there’s still [people who] would not see the family Phastos has and the beauty of that relationship and that love.
"How anybody is angry about it, threatened by it, doesn’t approve or appreciate it is ignorant."
Earlier this year, the movie's director - Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao - spoke to Indiewire about her desire to leave the movie unedited and not appease censors.
Zhao told the outlet: "I don’t know all the details, but I do believe discussions were had and there’s a big desire for Marvel and myself – we talked about this – to not change the cut of the movie. Fingers crossed."

Angelina Jolie has been accused of making the ultimate beauty faux pas by her fans.
During the premiere of the new Marvel film, The Eternals, Jolie made headlines — and for all the wrong reasons.
Per Page Six, the 46-year-old took to the red carpet at the Rome Film Festival wearing a silver Atelier Versace gown, and what seemed to be unblended hair extensions that just looked off.
People have taken to social media to express their confusion, and some have even gone so far as to call for the hairstylist in question to be "fired".
American television personality, Stassi Schroeder, took to her Instagram Story to write: "Before I say goodnight, I’d like to know who decided to give this queen unblended extensions. Okay, what I’m truly asking is who is fired right now."
People on Twitter were also perturbed, as one person wrote: "How do you let Angelina Jolie walk a red carpet with her hair extensions looking like this, somebody getting fired."
Another added: "Whoever did Angelina Jolie's hair extensions needs the sack."
"Have been thinking about Angelina Jolie’s hair extensions all day," a third added.
Another hilariously referenced the infamous "feud" between Jolie and Jennifer Aniston — who was married to Brad Pitt before her: "Whoever did Angelina’s hair extensions must be a friend of Jennifer's."
Jolie just made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in her turn as The Eternals, which is directed by Oscar-winning director, Chloe Zhao.
Zhao won the Best Director award earlier this year for her film, Nomadland.
The actor stars as Thena, an elite warrior who is part of an immortal race of aliens who have secretly lived on Earth for many, many years in order to protect the planet from a group known as The Deviants.
The film, which has garnered mixed reviews so far, stars Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, and Gemma Chan.
The Guardian's film critic, Steve Rose, gave the movie just two stars — branding it as "magic hour meets PowerPoint."
He added that Zhao, "manages to get some nice-looking shots and personal drama in her superhero debut, but there's just too much mythology to explain."

'Avengers: Endgame' is notable for many reasons: providing a satisfying ending to a 22-movie story, breaking the record for biggest opening of all time at the US box office, and featuring the first openly gay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You guessed it, 'Grieving Man!' No, he's not a superhero, but he sounds like one, so maybe he should be. His superpower could be crying projectile tears of sulfuric acid!
Five years after Thanos wiped out half out of Earth's population, 'Grieving Man' appears in a support group with Captain America, and describes his date with male pronouns. Director Joe Russo played the character, and explained his decision to Deadline: "It was important to us as we did four of these films, we wanted a gay character somewhere in them. We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that."

On social media, some people appreciated the scene, which depicts the first ever canonical LGBT character in an MCU film. (Yes, Deadpool is pansexual, but he's not in the MCU...yet.) Critics complained the moment of inclusion was too marginal. It's not like anybody's going to cosplay as 'Grieving Man' at Comic-Con.
Twitter users observed that Endgame features "50+ superheroes," but none of them are openly gay. Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, confirmed her character is bisexual on Twitter, but that has not been confirmed on screen. Thompson told Rolling Stone that they shot a scene of a woman coming out of Valykrie's bedroom for Thor: Ragnarok, but it didn't make the final cut. We've seen straight romances in MCU movies - why not gay romances?

After 20 superhero movies starring men, Marvel finally released a superhero movie starring a woman last March. Captain Marvel, featuring Brie Larson, went on to become a smash hit, earning more than $1 billion worldwide. (In 2017, the DC EU's first female-led superhero movie, Wonder Woman, made $821 million worldwide.) During an episode of Variety's The Big Ticket podcast, spoke about the success:
“I’m happy to be on the forefront of the normalization of this type of content and to prove once again that representation matters. Diverse storytelling matters, the female experience matters, and these are markers... I don’t think we think about that all the time as kids. I think we accept what we have, but to see this new generation of boys and girls, or kids who don’t identify as either, being able to see this on screen and to not know anything different is really exciting."

The host of the podcast, Marc Malkin, shared that he thought he'd never see an LGBT superhero while growing up. Larson, a vocal supporter of diversity, said that thought broke her heart:
"That breaks my heart to hear that, because there’s no reason. I don’t understand how you could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to me it’s like, we gotta move faster. But I’m always wanting to move faster with this stuff.... It wasn’t enough for me to just look strong on a poster; it needed to extend further than that. I feel like I can’t at the end of the day go to sleep at night if I didn’t do everything that I possibly could."
Last year, Supergirl introduced the first transgender superhero on television.

While Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston stans are still brimming with excitement over the former flames' recent table read on Zoom, it does appear that the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood actor has a new lady by his side - Nicole Poturalski.
And fans have a lot to say about the 27-year-old model's alleged beef with one of Pitt's more recent and very high-profile exes: Angelina Jolie.
Yes, Poturalski recently shared a snap of herself wearing a button-up orange dress with her 214,000 followers, captioning the stunning pic: "Happy people don't hate".

However, one Instagram user with the handle 'xspbl' decided to chime in writing: "If so, then why [do] you and Brad hate Angelina? Practice what you preach, girl."
In response, Pitt's girlfriend simply said: "Not hating anyone."
The comments appear to have since been deleted by Nicole, according to People.

Needless to say, many fans of the German model jumped to her defense, with one writing the following: "@nico.potur don’t bother yourself baby, everyone has some fans and haters, no need to delete the comments, don’t react to them and still be happy my love."

Another agreed, commenting: "You shouldn't give one thought to the haters. Be happy and be in love."
A third wrote: "So true! @nico.potur Keep your chin up and your kind heart healthy. Tough moments of being targeted do pass, in time. This planet really needs happy people being visibly happy! Keep on shining!"
While Pitt and Poturalski continue to keep their rumored relationship under wraps, a source told ET:
"Brad and Nicole were introduced through friends, and when they first started seeing each other, they told no one about it. Even some of their inner circle of friends are only finding out now."

In terms of how the 56-year-old's children with Jolie and their ongoing divorce have impacted his dating life, the source said: "Brad has been very private about dating and now more than ever he doesn't want to rock the boat with Angelina. He has been working so hard on making his co-parenting run smoothly."
