Netflix viewers are convinced that a series with 12.6m views is the ‘best ever’ produced by the streaming platform.
It’s a bold claim, but let’s see if they can back it up.
Netflix has taken over the media landscape in recent times, putting out some of the world’s biggest series, making huge blockbuster films - with some successes and failures - and even moving into the world of sports.
With so much content out there, it’s hard to pinpoint which of their works is definitely the best.
It’s not that Ronda Rousey fight from the other day, though, most would agree.
However, one action series really has people talking, and it’s maybe not one of the biggest shows on the platform, so you might be missing out on an absolute gem.
It ticks a lot of boxes - a strong cast, a ‘binge-worthy’ format, and a compelling premise.
So, will you be checking out Man on Fire?
Yes, it’s another adaptation of the book series written by AJ Quinnell, which was already made into a film back in 2004 that starred Denzel Washington.
That was a huge success, so there’s no reason that this show shouldn’t follow suit, right?
Many believe that film to be Denzel’s best.
It tells the story of John Creasy, a former Special Forces Mercenary who is wracked by PTSD.
The synopsis reads: "Once a high functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations, Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD.
“Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption.
“But, before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever."
This series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the lead role, came out on April 30, and shot into the global top 10.
In fact, for a week it was the world number one.
Fans rave about it, too.
One said: “Man on fire is so good might have to watch it twice.”
“Man on fire is so good might have to watch it twice,” wrote another.
A third said: “I couldn't get enough of this series, so much so that I'm binging through it as fast as possible.”
For a lengthier review, one person said: “I loved the movie this was based on with Denzel Washington so I had reservations that this wouldn't live up to my expectations but Man on Fire is every bit as good as I had hoped for...better in fact.
“It's filled with enough drama and action to make each episode as entertaining as the next.”
There you have it - if you’re stuck for something to watch, this could be it.
