Country singer Keith Urban has shocked fans with an unexpected update.
It has been nine months since Urban and his wife of nearly 20 years, Nicole Kidman, split up.
The Australian actress filed for divorce in Tennessee court in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences after 19 years of marriage, having tied the knot in June 2006.
The couple shares two children, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15, and they lived in Nashville before the split.
The four-time Grammy winner released his first album since the split, Flow State, on Friday (June 12), and it's safe to say that his fans weren't expecting it.
Instead of the country music that his fans are so used to hearing from him, the 58-year-old has pivoted and released some classic yacht rock tunes, with one of them being an original with Michael McDonald.
Explaining the inspiration behind the album in a press release, Urban said: "Creating FLOW STATE was one of the most unexpected albums I’ve ever made.
"In a lot of ways, it felt like the whole album had an energy and life of its own, and I was just following where it led me."
He added: "The songs we recorded were all so natural though, and I discovered a lot about how much they’ve helped shape my own music.
"There’s a reason these songs have stood the test of time, and equally so, the need for their spirit of fully disconnecting from 'the grid' and swimming in blue sky simplicity."
The album consists of ten covers as well as collaborations with Little Big Town and John Mayer.
Despite the new approach, Urban told The Independent that he didn't expect to be releasing this genre of music either, though he enjoyed curating the album.
The new album comes just months after his divorce from Kidman, 58, was finalized in January.
Court documents revealed that Kidman would be the primary residential parent of their two daughters, and care for them 306/365 days in the year.
Urban has not been seen publicly with his daughters since before the split was announced.
Neither of the pair has directly spoken about the divorce, though the Big Little Lies actress admitted in an interview with Variety that she wanted to get her family through the turbulent period.
She told the publication: "I'm always going to be moving toward what's good,
"What I'm grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That's that. Everything else I don't discuss out of respect."
It was reported at the time that Kidman didn't want to separate and was "trying to save the marriage," before seemingly being left with no other choice.

Nicole Kidman has spoken out for the first time since her divorce from Keith Urban.
The pair split late last year, with their divorce finalized in early January 2026.
The pair, who share two daughters, 17-year-old Sunday Rose and 15-year-old Faith Margaret, decided to go their separate ways in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences.
The split caused quite a bit of controversy, with some speculating about whether Urban had quickly moved on, and even suggesting that there might have been some strange clauses in their pre-nuptial agreement based around Urban’s substance misuse past.
Now, 58-year-old Kidman has spoken out about the end of the marriage for the first time, sitting down to chat about her upcoming project, the Practical Magic sequel, as well as Prime Video series Scarpetta.
She was asked if she was ‘doing alright’ by the interviewer and responded: "I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good.”
Kidman went on to say that she is ‘grateful’ for her family and ‘keeping them as is and moving forward’.
“That’s that,” she concluded.
On the split from Urban, she further added: "Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, 'We are a family,' and that’s what we’ll continue to be.
“My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women."
Kidman and the music star, 58, met back in 2005 before marrying the next year in 2006.
Those comments about her divorce came after a question from Variety about whether ‘every year’ is her year.
She opened up: “Well, not last year. I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.”
Asked if she is now ready to emerge, she said: "Now I’m in a place of saying, '2026. Here we go.' I have Practical Magic with [Sandra Bullock]. I’ll be in full witch mode."
The pair’s divorce went through on January 6, citing ‘’experienced marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences’.
The couple agreed how to divide up their life together and Kidman was granted custody of the two children, although both sides agreed to keep joint decision-making about their daughters’ lives and futures.

Keith Urban has opened up about one thing that marriage to Nicole Kidman apart before they separated.
After almost two decades of marriage, the couple, who share two daughters, Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (14), have reportedly ended their relationship.
The news of their separation has left many in shock, with sources close to the couple pointing to growing tension over the past few months.
Although they made efforts to maintain their bond, including the 58-year-old actress' public displays of affection on social media, the couple has been living apart since June, according to The Guardian.
Before the separation was announced, the 'Blue Ain't Your Color' singer had made a vulnerable confession about the struggles in his marriage to Kidman.
In a heartfelt speech at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute in June 2024, Urban revealed that his battle with addiction nearly tore their marriage apart just months after their wedding.
“We got married in 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens,” he said. “Four months into a marriage, and I'm in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us."
Urban went on to praise his wife for standing by him during those challenging times: “Nic pushed through every negative voice. I'm sure even some of her own, and she chose love."
"And here we are tonight, 18 years later. Her capacity to love is like no one I've ever met,” he added, visibly emotional.
While the 57-year-old's past struggles with addiction were a significant source of tension early in their relationship, recent challenges seem to have stemmed from a different issue.
Sources close to the couple indicate that the final straw was related to Urban’s discomfort with some of Big Little Lies actress' more intimate roles in recent films, particularly her love scenes with younger actors like Zac Efron in A Family Affair.
This tension became apparent in June when Urban reacted strongly during a radio interview.
The host, Max Burford, casually asked: “What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes on TV?”
The country star's response was immediate and pointed - he ended the interview abruptly.
The hosts were shocked by his reaction, with Burford commenting: “I thought we were vibing with Keith,” while co-host Hayley Pearson added, “He hates us. I knew that was going to happen.”
While the radio interview was a public moment of tension, sources close to the couple say that Urban’s concerns went beyond media scrutiny.
“The intimacy isn’t there; they are just going through the motions,” a source explained, per The Mirror. "Keith had to call her out that he isn’t happy. She was blindsided by this."
“There was a lot of love between the two, and they might not divorce. They’ve been together for decades, so there is a world where they can reconcile. But as things stand now, they are not a couple,” an insider added.

The news of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s divorce has rocked their inner circle. The couple’s split, which was made public in late September 2025, came as a surprise to many, especially Kidman, who reportedly believed that the couple was on the mend. Despite their separation, sources close to the actress have revealed that she might still be open to reconciliation, depending on where Urban stands in his emotional journey.
Kidman, 58, filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences" after 19 years of marriage. Though the announcement left her blindsided, insiders believe she would be willing to rekindle the relationship if Urban hasn't already moved on. One confidante shared, "She would get back with him in a heartbeat."
At the time of their split, reports indicated that Kidman and Urban had been living apart for several months, but had been working through their marital issues. When news of their separation broke, many assumed it was a mutual decision, but a source revealed that by then, Urban had already made up his mind about ending the marriage. Nicole, who had hoped to save their relationship, was shocked by the finality of his decision.
With rumors swirling about Urban possibly moving on, including speculation about relationships with younger women such as 25-year-old country star Maggie Baugh and singer Kelsea Ballerini, Kidman’s circle is concerned. "That would be a worst-case scenario for her," said a source, adding more emotional weight to the situation. For now, it remains unclear if Urban is dating anyone seriously, with some insiders claiming his relationships with Baugh and Ballerini are strictly platonic.
Nicole and Keith share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, and reports indicate that their custody arrangement will see the girls living with their mother for the majority of the year. Sources have also stated that Nicole has asked to be designated as the primary residential parent. While the situation remains difficult for all parties involved, especially the children, Nicole's inner circle is supporting her as she navigates the next chapter of her life.
As Nicole focuses on co-parenting and healing, the path ahead remains uncertain. Despite the breakup, the possibility of reconciliation is not entirely off the table—if both parties are willing to reconsider their past and future together.

After nearly two decades together, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated. Reports surfaced this week that the Oscar-winning actress and the country music star have quietly ended their 19-year marriage.
The pair, who first met in 2005 at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles, quickly became one of Hollywood’s most admired couples. They announced their engagement less than a year later and married in an intimate ceremony in Sydney in June 2006.
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, share two daughters (Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14) while Kidman also has two older children, Isabella Jane and Connor, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
According to reports, Kidman officially filed for divorce on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences.” While news of the split only recently became public, sources suggest the couple had been living apart since early summer.
Insiders close to the family said the separation came after months of strain linked to their demanding schedules. Urban’s ongoing tour and Kidman’s film commitments reportedly made it difficult for the pair to spend time together, leading to increasing distance between them.
Kidman and Urban’s marriage has long been admired for its warmth and stability, but friends say that their careers often kept them in different parts of the world. Urban has spent much of 2024 on tour, including dates across the United States and Australia, while Kidman has been filming a series of international projects.
Despite their professional success, the distance reportedly took a toll. Those close to the couple say Kidman made every effort to repair the relationship before deciding to file for divorce. She is said to have kept the situation private for months, focusing on maintaining normalcy for their children.
“Nicole has always been deeply committed to her family,” one insider noted, per Marie Claire. “She’s balancing a demanding career with motherhood and continues to put her kids first.”
As of this week, neither Kidman nor Urban has made a public statement about their separation. Both stars remain focused on their professional obligations; Kidman with upcoming film projects and Urban continuing his tour schedule.
Fans of the couple have expressed sadness over the news, with many noting that Kidman and Urban had long appeared to be one of Hollywood’s most grounded partnerships.
The pair has previously spoken about the importance of communication and family time, even amid their hectic schedules. Their separation marks the end of a significant chapter in both their lives; one defined by love, resilience, and shared achievements.

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s 19-year marriage has come to an end, and an interview from earlier this summer now feels especially awkward in hindsight.
It was confirmed earlier this week that Urban, 57, and Kidman, 58, had separated. The Big Little Lies actress officially filed for divorce the following day in Nashville, citing irreconcilable differences after nearly two decades together.
Back in July, Urban appeared on On Air with Ryan Seacrest when the host praised Kidman’s relentless work schedule.
“Do people tell you your wife is in everything? Nicole Kidman is in everything,” Seacrest, 50, said.
Urban laughed and replied that she was “almost as busy” as Seacrest, but “not quite.” When asked how the couple balanced her acting projects with his touring, the four-time Grammy winner paused and responded simply: “It’s a job. Yeah. Life is in session.”
At the time, Kidman was filming Practical Magic 2 while Urban was on the road for his High and Alive World Tour, which kicked off in late May. His next stop is scheduled for this week in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Sources close to the couple told PEOPLE that Kidman had been “fighting to save the marriage” and “didn’t want this,” while those in Urban’s circle said he had been “going through some stuff” and making “questionable choices.”
“This wasn’t just a case of them drifting apart,” one insider added.
Court filings reveal the pair had already been living separately for months before the divorce paperwork was submitted. The official date of separation is listed as September 30, the same day Kidman filed.
Urban and Kidman first met at a gala in 2005 and married the following year. They went on to raise two daughters together: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Though they celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary in June, friends reportedly felt the split was “inevitable.” The couple were last seen publicly together just days before the news broke.
