Stephen 'tWitch' Boss's cause of death has been confirmed by a coroner after the TV star died this week at the age of 40.
Boss was best known for his appearances on The Ellen Show, his stint lasting from 2014 to 2022 when the show was eventually canceled.
Beyond the daytime talk show, he was also a professional dancer, an actor, and a social media personality, best known for spreading positivity online.
His sudden death was confirmed on Wednesday by his wife, Allison Holker after initial reports surfaced claiming he had been found dead at a hotel in Los Angeles.
Speaking to PEOPLE just days after the pair celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary, Holker told the outlet that she's delivering the news with the "heaviest of hearts."
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us," the 34-year-old said.
"Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans."
She continued: "To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt," she continued. "I am certain there won't be a day that goes by that we won't honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children."
"Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you," Allison concluded the emotional statement.
Just a few hours later, Ellen DeGeneres also paid tribute to her long-time friend and cast mate.
Sharing a photo of the two of them embracing on set, she told her followers: "I’m heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light.
"He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children - Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia."
Initial reports suggested that Boss had taken his own life, which was later officially confirmed by the coroner.
In a separate statement to PEOPLE, county officials have confirmed that the 40-year-old dancer died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at a motel in the Encino area of Los Angeles.
The case is now said to be closed, per the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner.
In addition to his wife, Boss is survived by his children, Weslie, 14, Maddox, six, and Zaia, three.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
