We know Katy Perry as the coquettish pop singer who squirted whipped cream out of her boobs in California Gurls and confessed she loved making out with ladies in I Kissed A Girl. However, before she crooned "swish swish, bitch," she was gospel singer Katy Hudson. In fact, she even released a self-titled gospel album in 2001. Raised by Pentecostal pastors, young Katy got her start singing in church, as secular music was discouraged in her home.
What caused Katy Perry to change ? Maybe she didn't change at at all, because deep down she was always a wild child. Over the weekend, the singer was going through family memorabilia and shared a story about getting suspended from Santa Barbara Christian School in 1996. And what was the scandalous reason? Cutting class? Swearing at a teacher? Smoking in the girls' room? Nope, nope and nope. She got busted for humping a tree, which she pretended was Tom Cruise! (Must have been a short tree.)
On Instagram Story, Katy shared a photo of the suspension report, which formally describes her "inappropriate behavior." (Or should I say 'risky business'?)
"At the 2:00 p.m. recess, Katy and four other students were in an 'off-limits' area (behind the backboards) practicing a skit. Katy pretended that a tree was Tom Cruise and began making sexual motions (pelvic thrusts) to the tree. When Katy met with Mrs. Calkins, Mr. White, and myself, she was asked to describe or demonstrate what she had been seen doing on the playground in front of some other students. Katy chose to describe it. Her words were 'it was inappropriate' and 'like making out."
We all get in trouble for doing stupid things when we're young, but this reason for suspension is hilariously bizarre. It sounds like Katy was barking mad. I wonder if her teachers ever got down to the root of the problem. Maybe they were stumped. Hopefully they offered her an olive branch. It's tree-mendously rude to make her pack her trunk and leave. (Okay, I'm done now.)
The suspension report goes on to list more common kinds of juvenile troublemaking. Katy wore "crop tops" with her midriff showing. She used inappropriate language such as "pissed off," "brats," and "Oh my God," taking the Lord's name in vain. She got busted for playing Spin The Bottle and Truth and Dare with other students, in which she kissed others on the cheek. (The horror!)
However, Katy Hudson's most Katy Perry-esque behavior was salacious dancing: "Katy was seen by 2 teachers recently outside their classroom doing the Macarena dance in which she made body motions with sexual overtones (described by one teacher as being "like an exotic dancer.") The same dance moves that her scolded in school helped her become an international pop superstar.
Well, what we can we say? She humped a tree, and she liked it.

Last week footage of an orgy in a hotel room went viral on Chinese social media. (There's a sentence you don't get to write every day!) The videos were posted on the popular Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, and although China has tried to scrub it from the Internet, it's like playing whack-a-mole. You shut down one upload, another one pops up.
Speaking of popping up, the orgy. According to The Shanghaist, the videos show at least six naked men and women dancing, grinding, laughing and basically living life to the fullest. Allegedly, the people involved are flight attendants for China Eastern Airlines. (Well, I know what airline I'm flying from now on.) Rumors say it took place at a hotel in Madrid. I know it's disappointing this orgy didn't happen on an airplane, because it would bring a whole new meaning to the word 'cockpit.'
[[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/letao01/status/974183161507622912]]
In a written statement, China Eastern Airlines denies that the people in the video are employees. They suggest that the video was shot in Africa, and produced by someone deliberately trying to damage their reputation. (What? Seems like it would only improve their reputation to me.) I don't know what airline would go to the trouble to throw an orgy just to smear a competitor, but if that's the case, that is some pretty creative marketing.
China has been censoring every mention of this incident on the Internet, so if you are reading this article, you are probably not in China. The website FreeWeibo monitors and distributes content that has been censored by Chinese authorities. The most censored term at the moment is "Eastern airlines 6p," followed by "Eastern Airlines" and "China Eastern." (I assume "orgy" was already censored.) But that's not all - China has also blocked the terms "migration" and "boarding a plane." That's pretty extreme. There are 376 million Weibo users. Will all references to airplanes on the Internet be censored for them?
China desperately wants to wipe this incident from our memories, but ironically their efforts have just given the story more publicity. It's a good example of The Streisand Effect, "the phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely." It's named after the singer Barbara Streisand, who tried to suppress photos of her house in Malibu in 2003. Instead, she ending up drawing more attention to it.
But you know what? I support this flight attendant orgy. China recently started giving citizens 'reputation ratings,' making a nightmarish Black Mirror episode a reality. Can you blame them for wanting to cut loose? I mean, the government's censorship is so extreme that last month they blocked Weibo users from saying "I disagree." Reportedly they did this because of the Communist Party's proposal to let President Xi Jinping rule more than two terms. Sometimes you just have to rebel.

Now that the coronavirus pandemic has forced people around the world to stay indoors, it's fair to say that the vast majority of us won't be keeping up with our usual standards of grooming and self-care.
Yes, instead of trim suits, shirts, and shiny shoes, most will opt instead for shorts, sweatpants, and flip flops while stuck inside. 2020 is not the best time to be a fashionista.
Katy Perry's Instagram blew up recently when she broke the news that she was pregnant with Orlando Bloom's baby:

It seems as though even celebrities are ditching their red carpet garments in favor of comfier clothes. For instance, pop musician Katy Perry has taken to Instagram this week to show off her casual 'quarantine look.'
Taking to her official Instagram account, Perry uploaded two pictures of herself, one showing her wearing a glamourous dress and strappy heels while in Hawaii, and a more recent selfie showing her makeup-free and dressed in a simple, fluffy bathrobe.

She captioned her post: "Pre-quarantine ... mid-quarantine ... Hope your stay-at-home plans tonight include joining me for a beautiful and breezy episode of #AmericanIdol, taped in heavenly Hawaii back in January and February [sic]."
As you can see, Katy's Instagram followers adored her post, and many of them took to the comments to remark upon how beautiful she looked dressed up or dressed down.
For instance, one person wrote: "Gorgeous even when in quarantine [sic]", while another person chimed in: "You’re literally GLOWING pregnancy looks amazing on you ... stay home and stay safe, we love you ... cant wait to watch tonight [sic]"
But this isn't the only thing that Katy Perry has delighted her social media followers with lately. Early this month she took to Instagram to share some big news. Namely, the fact that she is now pregnant with Orlando Bloom's baby.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a Taiwanese tourist was fined 2,500 PHP ($49) for wearing a very revealing bikini while on holiday in the Philippine island of Boracay.
The female tourist was seen walking along Puka Beach with her boyfriend wearing a string bikini that left very little to the imagination.
The swimsuit in question was white in colour and made up of tiny pieces of fabric.
Vietnamese model Ngoc Trinh was threatened with a fine after wearing this revealing dress on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet:

Staff at the hotel the couple was staying at reportedly warned her that her outfit was not appropriate, but she still wore the swimsuit again the next day at the beach, which is when locals called the police.
"They were told not to by the hotel management, but they said it was a form of art," said Natividad Bernardino, chief of the Boracay Inter-Agency Management and Rehabilitation Group (BIAMRG) in a news release.
Her fellow beachgoers were stunned by the sight of the scantily clad woman and several of them even posted photos of her on social media.

Jess Baylon, the Police Chief of Malay, which includes the Boracay, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer:
"Several residents and tourists took photos of her on Wednesday and Thursday because of what she was wearing. It was literally a string. In our conservative culture, it is unacceptable."
Well, now the woman's boyfriend has come out in defence of the 26-year-old, revealing that he is to blame for the regrettable choice of outfit.
In a recent interview with Taiwan’s Apple Daily, he explained that the pair had purchased the bikini following their arrival in Boracay and that the whole reason she was wearing it was because she'd a lost a bet. The terms of the bet have not been made public.
"We didn't even know people were taking photos, we were not the ones who took and spread those photos, yet we were the ones who were penalized," he told the publication. "If this swimsuit is considered flouting the law, then why was it sold in a local shop? "Please don't blame her."
