There's no denying that pigs in blankets are a real favorite when it comes to festive food. But would you have it as part of a dessert?

Well, thanks to cheesecake retailer Pleesecakes, you can absolutely eat it as part of your third course!

Dubbed "The Notorious P.I.B" (named after the late rapper Biggie Smalls), the company proudly admits their new creation is a "controversial" savory take on a classic dessert.

The company recently posted a couple of snaps of the "banging" and "unreal" dessert to their official Instagram page, writing in the caption:

"Introducing the Pigs in blanket Pleesecake!!! CONTROVERSIAL... sure. Delicious, tasty, [moreish], banging & UNREAL... most certainly.

"All savory, silky baked savory cheesecake with the added bonus of the classic festive pigs in blankets! Coming from the cheesecake experts, this is a SERIOUS bit of cheesecake!

"But we always welcome your feedback, comment below."

Per the Independent, the pigs in blankets cheesecake is made using cheddar cheese, oatmeal, thyme base and has a savory cheesecake filling.

The filling contains fresh thyme, sage, and pigs in blankets. It is topped with a sweet caramelized onion chutney, a sizable helping of pigs in blankets, fresh thyme, and rosemary.

Based on the response so far, it seems a popular choice. In fact, a number of people have taken to the company's Instagram to share their thoughts.

One user who goes by the handle @cvanstone82 had no qualms about eating a cake topped with pigs in blankets, writing: "I'd definitely give it a go, as would my in blanket obsessed fiancé!"

Another user with the handle @desertislandevents was seriously impressed, taking to the comments to write: "Wow, this looks ridiculous !!! we need for our Christmas parties !! [sic]"

Another user with the handle @snackcheesies gushed: "LOVE IT. You know we’re always down for a savory pleesecake."

A different user named @shinnyshinykey admitted to being skeptical at first, writing: "Initial reaction: what the everliving f**k? Now, I want to eat the whole thing now and get a second helping."

With Christmas around the corner, cooks everywhere are gearing up for the season where stuffing meat inside more meat suddenly becomes socially acceptable. While there’s no real reason that pigs in blankets and three-bird roasts can’t be enjoyed all year round, there’s still something perverse about serving a tray of bacon-wrapped sausage in mid-March. Thankfully, for the next few months at least, we don’t have to worry about such niceties.

In anticipation of a meat-heavy season, supermarkets across the country are preparing their own slate of epic seasonal specials. We’ve already seen Aldi set their stall out with an epic two-metre-long pig in blanket. But, even though this might sound like an inadvisable amount of protein, they now have competition for the crown of most OTT seasonal pig product thanks to ASDA’s new foot-long sausage meat log, with a pig in blanket topping. Loosen your waistbands and ready the Gaviscon.

The new dish might sound unbelievably indulgent on paper - because it is - but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t delicious. According to a report in The Mirror, the log won both the BBC Good Food and Good Housekeeping stuffing taste test, meaning that it’s as tasty as it is impressive.

Discussing the new release, an Asda spokesperson revealed:

“The success of our Ultimate Pig in Blanket last year was phenomenal, so we wanted to take our meaty centrepieces that next step to ensure customers can enjoy quality meat at great value.”

“Our new showstopping centrepieces provide customers with something full of flavour that can be easily enjoyed by meat-loving guests looking for something extra special this Christmas…and we feel both launches will really bring home the bacon this holiday season!”

Unfortunately for fans of a preemptive Christmas feast, the giant log is only being released in the UK on the 28th of November, meaning we basically have a whole month to wait. However, as if the prospect of Christmas wasn’t already exciting enough, this dish definitely has the potential to take dinner to the next level. If the reports are to be believed, it should be worth the wait.

If you like sausage meat, bacon, and massively over-indulging, then today is set to be one of the most exciting days of your calendar year.

That's because Aldi's much heralded, highly anticipated, totally over-the-top two-metre long pig-in-blanket is now available for purchase in stores all over the country.

Excited? Nervous? Queasy?

Personally, I'm all three.

The supermarket chain says that the two-metre porky pleasure portal is the largest pig-in-blanket sold in the United Kingdom.

Now, I've got to hand it to Aldi. This year, whenever I've felt a little down-in-the-dumps, they've come through for me with all manner of exciting and unusual products, typically through their Specialbuy promotion.

Indeed, in the run up to Christmas we've been treated to a festive candy cane gin liqueur, super spicy pigs in blankets made using the world's second hottest chilli, a six litre bottle of Prosecco and much more besides.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand.

The colossal pig-in-blanket will set you back just £4.99, which strikes me as a particularly reasonable price considering the thing's gargantuan size.

As any Christmas dinner connoisseur will tell you, pigs in blankets really are the star of the show when it comes to chowing down on festive fare.

Aldi surged into an early lead in the festive fare stakes, launching a plethora of weird and wonderful products including a candy cane liqueur, a wine advent calendar and a two-metre long pig in blanket.

Bold? Excessive? Aggressively Christmassy? You bet.

We've also had news of a grinch-themed holiday cookie from Nestlé Toll House, and this truly excellent Buddy the Elf holiday wreath.

Yet still, our voracious appetite for all things festive does not appear to have abated. Just today, news emerged from the good folk at Krispy Kreme that they would be reinstating their popular Gingerbread Glazed donut flavour from now until Christmas Eve. And now, Lidl has waded into the fray, with news of an entire Christmas dinner in a blanket.

Containing turkey, stuffing, shredded sprouts and cranberry sauce encased in a bacon blanket, the meaty offering is sure to be a hit with those who simply cannot get enough Christmas dinner. Or bacon. Take a look at the succulent serving:

Well, it gets even better. The substantial festive offering is apparently sufficient to serve a family of five. It also looks perfect for a Christmas party or gathering, or maybe as a snack in between meals...

It also sounds like it would be well accompanied by some light Prosecco to wash it all down with. Or, of course, you could hop on over to Aldi to get your hands on some of their candy cane gin liqueur.

Basically, the message seems to be that, this Christmas, it's time to totally overwhelm yourself with the frankly absurd number of festive-themed products, and then spend January and February staring at your bank balance, wondering where it all went.

Discerning shoppers know that Aldi and novelty food items are a match made in heaven. If you time your shopping trip right, you could walk straight into a store packed with giant tomahawk steaks, discount quality cuts and limited edition fire pits, arming yourself with enough unusual ingredients to last a lifetime. For the impulsive amateur chef, it’s like having all your Christmases have come at once.

Proving that they are still the kings when it comes to odd yet awesome food inventions, the German-based budget supermarket have come up with yet another ingredient that you never knew you needed, yet now have to try. Just in time for the height of British summer, Aldi have unveiled their new cheese-stuffed sausages, simultaneously proving that, even with the growing trend towards plant-based alternatives, there are few things more mouthwatering than meat and cheese.

Hitting shelves from the 15th of August, the new product will come in a pack of six sausages and will feature premium pork mince and tangy Red Leicester cheese. Retailing for just £1.89, they will only set shoppers back around 30p per sausage, making them at the very least a cheap mistake, and at most an absolute steal.

While the cheese-stuffed sausages might end up stealing the supermarket’s summer headlines, they aren’t the only exciting thing on Aldi’s agenda. The Mirror report that they are set to be joined by three other limited edition meats next week: Salt & Chili Belly Slices (£2.79), Louisiana Pork Riblets (£1.89) and 28-Day thick Cut Sirloin Steak (£3.99). Now there’s no excuse not to strap on an apron, dust off the barbie and get grilling.
