A flight attendant has revealed the strict rules workers have to follow as she compared it to being in the military.
TikTok user and flight attendant Kat Kamalani took to the app on July 7 to open up about the "strict" reality of the job, including the rules around flight attendants' appearances.
She explains in the video: "So what most people don't know is that you have to follow a super strict guideline when you're a flight attendant, your airline gets to dictate everything from head to toe on the way you look. So your nail color, hair color, your lip color, your make-up, the way your shoes look, your bags... every single thing."
Watch the video TikTok below:Kat then explains what happened to her when she was training for the job.
"When I was in training, they had a whole entire team dedicated to the way you look and making sure you're on point. You can't have any tattoos showing, the length of your dress or your uniform, the way you tie your bow - it was super strict. I swear that I felt like I was in the military because of how strict they are," she explained.
The flight attendant said that there are consequences if you don't follow the rules and "you can get in big trouble" if an airport manager "sees you off guideline."
Kat concluded the video by saying: "So being a flight attendant is super strict on the way you look."
Needless to say, the video did not go unnoticed as it racked up over 110,000 views, at the time of writing.
Reacting to the video, one TikTok user wrote: "Same for working at the airport for the guidelines. Had to wear heels at all times, certain nail polished allowed hair must be up, and [the] list goes on."
A second wrote: "Yes this is in most wor spaces my daughter can't wear nail polish at all at the Whataburger so..."
A third added: "well... it's called a UNI-form. Uni means one, so there should be ONE form, the form they are PAYING you to present."
What do you think of Kat's revelation? Let us know in the comments!

A female pilot has spoken out about an incident where an airport employee mistook her for a flight attendant.
Sabrina - who goes by the handle @sabrinaleej on TikTok - shared a video of herself in her uniform and sitting in the cockpit of a plane, explaining a mistake a fellow airport worker made towards her.
"Gate agent looked me in the eye today, asked if I was the flight attendant," Sabrina wrote in the overlay text over the video, adding, "(Common occurrence)."
The pilot further elaborated on her thoughts about the experience in the caption of the post, writing: "It’s jarring to me because they work at an airport. You know what the pilot uniforms are."
Check out Sabrina's TikTok below:As of this writing, the clip garnered more than 1.7 million views and over 181,000 likes, with many online users in the comments sharing their thoughts on the situation.
One user wrote: "With three stripes? nah that was on purpose."
A fellow flight attendant also shared their opinion, writing: "As a flight attendant, I’m offended for you. Unacceptable. They KNOW our uniforms."
A third user commented: "But the uniform is so different... they knew what they were doing."
Meanwhile, other users poked fun at how Sabrina should have responded to the gate agent’s remark.
One person jested: "Ask them if they’re the janitor?" While another person joked that she should've said: "'Oh honey noooo… this is a PILOT uniform' real slow and nice."
Lastly, a third user chimed in and wrote: "I would've replied 'no, I'm not, are you the pilot?' and when they say no, reply 'obviously, cuz I am'."
In a follow-up video, the pilot said that while she loves her co-workers, she's not the only pilot that has been in that same position. She also explained that simply being labeled as a flight attendant wasn't the problem that she wanted to address.
"Being called a flight attendant is not an insult," she wrote in the overlay text of her video. "It’s an insult when it’s used to try to put me down after all my hard work. When you do that, you are insulting both me and the flight attendants."
According to Harvard Business Review, this kind of behavior is classified as "role incredulity," which is described as a gender bias in which women are believed to be in a supporting role - in Sabrina’s case, a flight attendant - rather than a leadership position.
The report also explains that when this happened, women have to spend extra time proving themselves within their role and asserting their position - which is what Sabrina had to do when someone thought she was a flight attendant.

A TikToker has revealed what flight attendants are "really doing" when they greet passengers on an airplane.
Kat Kamalani - who works as a flight attendant - has shared some rarely-known trivia of what really happens before an aircraft takes off.
Taking to TikTok, Kamalani explained why flight attendants often greet travelers with a big smile on their face - and the reason is probably not what you think.
She said in the video: "Have you ever walked on the plane and seen the flight attendants standing here greeting you, or the flight attendants walking up and down the aisle? Well, I'm about to tell you what we're really doing.
"When you walk on the plane and see our happy, smiley face, we're actually looking you up and down and trying to find our able-bodied people. So these are people who are going to help us in an emergency."
Kalamani says that flight attendants often keep their eyes peeled for military personnel, firefighters, nurses, and doctors on board the aircraft.
Explaining the reason in her TikTok, she said this is "in case of a medical emergency or we're going to land the plane or there's a security breach, we know who's on our plane and who can help us. But, we're also looking out for one more thing.
"Besides looking for things that don’t belong on the plane, like a box of liquid, we're looking for human trafficking. It happens a lot in the industry and our passengers' safety is our number one priority, so we're just looking for things that look off."
She captioned the video: "You would never guess the last part... #secretsrevealed #traveler #momsontiktok #flightcrew #travelhacks."
The video became an instant viral hit, racking up more than 4 million views at the time of writing.
The video forced some social media users to think back to a time when they have experienced flight attendants being extra cautious.
One person wrote: "Omg when I go back to Australia from UK I’m always in floods of tears, the staff always take [me] aside and question me. They probably think I’m being trafficked."
Another added: "Omg I never knew that!"

A flight attendant has taken to social media to share a simple trick to get customers special treatments on flights.
Stewardess Kat Kamalani, who goes by the handle @katkamalani on TikTok, took to the platform last week to share a video captioned: "Your flight will change DRAMATICALLY", in order to give potential airline passengers some much-needed advice.
In the video, Kat herself states that buying an attendant a small treat or a token, such as a Starbucks gift card or some candy, can go a long way towards making jetlagged and groggy cabin crew feel appreciated.
Take a look at Kat's video right here:This, in turn, can often mean that the customer will get small favors from them, which can help to make the flight more comfortable.
Kat stated: "And if you don't have gift cards, you can just pick up some candy bars, lip balm, anything and give them to your flight attendants.
"We will know where you're sitting, and we will know what you look like and the whole crew will make sure you are taken care of."
Her advice clearly resonated with other TikTok users as it's now racked up millions of views, and 830,000 reactions, at the time of writing.
For example, one person responded: "I've gotten free drinks just for being polite. It's so rare these days that they appreciate it. Has happened to me on Delta and Jet Blue."
A second wrote: "I always give them donuts!!!! They treat me so nice lol. [sic]"
A third added: "I never thought about giving little gifts, but it makes sense! Thanks for this!! [sic]"
While another chimed in: "I feel like FAs should be courteous as part of their job but there's nothing wrong with a little bit of extra appreciation."
Another then stated: "I've always had amazing FAs but we started doing this and it's fun to see their faces light up."
Finally, this commenter wrote: "I did this on my flight on Christmas and the flight attendants were SO thankful. They have so so much free stuff even tho I didn't ask/expect it!"

A flight attendant has explained why new planes have ashtrays despite smoking bans being enforced across the board on modern airplanes.
Kaylee, who works as a cabin crew member, took to TikTok recently to shed light on the reason the feature is included on many commercial airplanes.
In a video posted over the summer, an ashtray can be seen underneath a sign that reads "No Smoking" in both English and French.
The flight attendant asks her followers: "Have you ever noticed that new planes have ashtrays? Do you know why?"
Check out Kaylee's video here:The video has managed to rack up over 109,000 views, more than 3,000 likes, and 276 comments, with many of the commenters sharing why they think modern aircraft are fitted with ashtrays.
The majority of those who commented believed the inclusion of the ashtrays was down to people defying smoking bans on airplanes. While smoking on a flight is actively discouraged, used cigarettes still need to be disposed of in a safe place.
One person said: "It's because people will try and break the rules. We prefer that they use ashtrays to hide their cigarettes instead of causing a fire."
Another wrote: "They are required by law to have a safe place for the flight crew to put the illegal cigarettes."
A third suggested: "It is in case some one [sic] does have a smoke. And if they do the ash [tray] is there so they don't flush it in the toilet and [break] it."
A fourth commented: "Because people still like to break the rules. As silly as this sounds. Some still don't understand that YOU CANT SMOKE ON AIRPLANES. [sic]"
Yet another chimed in: "Somewhere to safely dispose of a cigarette should you still smoke despite the [No smoking] sign."
Taking to the comments, Kaylee confirmed that their theories were correct - planes require ashtrays in the event that someone does break the rules.
Disposing of cigarettes in a proper manner can prevent fires from starting and it will also mean passengers are less likely to throw their cigarettes down the toilet.

A flight attendant has become a TikTok revelation for revealing fascinating behind-the-scenes tidbits and secrets of what life is really like up at 30,000 feet.
And in a recent interview with In The Know, Sandra Jeenie Kwon has been discussing the common misconceptions that people have about what it's like to be a flight attendant.
"Most people when they see flight attendants think of this job as a glamorous jet setter and believe all we do is greet and serve passengers food and drinks,” she told the publication. “This is honestly what I thought, too, before I became cabin crew.”
These flight attendants were praised for their uplifting announcement during the pandemic:

Of course, like any job, being a flight attendant is not always fun, but the many stories, inside tidbits and revelations that Kwon has taken away from her time working for Emirates Airline have added up to some excellent TikTok content that has helped her net more than 3.7 million followers on the video-sharing platform.
“The training involved, the work we actually do, all the Karens and Chads we need to service — people find that fascinating,” she told In The Know.
As well as sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses into the lives of flight attendents, Kwon also reveals insider tips that may help change the way you go about your travelling.
In a recent TikTok video that formed part of her “travel tips you might not know about” series, Kwon explained why travelers in the United States should never accept an airline voucher if they get bumped from a flight due to overbooking.

“Not only are the airlines required to find you an alternative flight, but depending on the length of the delay, you are entitled to cash!” She revealed in the clip, which has since gone viral.
This tip might be common knowledge to seasoned travelers and industry experts, but if you weren't aware of it yourself it could be the difference between a $150 flight voucher and $1,350 cash.

Meanwhile, another flight attendant previously revealed why no one who sees behins-the-scenes scenes will ever order a warm drink on a plane. She made the revelation in an interview with Inside Edition, and to be honest, it's enough to put you off flying for life!
She said the pipes used to distribute the water in coffee and tea aren't cleaned very often.
In addition to this, even if you want a soft drink instead, you should avoid Diet Coke because, for some bizarre reason, at a high altitude, it takes a lot longer to pour than other drinks. The more you know, eh?
