A man has opened up about how he refuses to share a bed with his wife as she doesn't shower before getting in after she comes home from working as a gynecologist.

Each couple will have their own ways of doing things when it comes to bedtime routines, and sleeping separately doesn't necessarily mean that the relationship isn't working.

That being said, the vast majority of married couples will share a bed - sometimes having to endure loud snoring from their partner.

One man has taken to Reddit where he penned on the popular Am I The A**hole forum that he sleeps apart from his wife due to her refusal to shower after coming home from work.

The poster explained that his wife works as a gynecologist at a hospital, and while he is proud of her and the work that she does, he mentions that she has talked about all the bodily fluids that she is exposed to throughout the day.

Explaining that he asked her to shower before she gets into bed, he states that she "wears gloves and takes precautions to avoid any contamination," and that he is being "unreasonable".

He further explained: "I still feel uneasy about the potential exposure to bodily fluids, and I don't think it's an unreasonable request for her to take a quick shower before bed. Since my wife doesn't want to shower before bed, I have been sleeping on the couch in the living room instead."

This dilemma caused division in the replies, with some understanding of his point of view and believing that he is within his right to ask his wife to shower.

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with a quick shower after coming home. And nothing wrong with staying away from someone until they do. You were free to ask and she was free to say no [...] while accepting the consequences of refusing. You sleep on a lumpy couch and she sleeps alone," one person penned.

Another explained: "[I] have multiple physicians in the family and they all shower at work before even leaving the hospital after rounds since they don't want their cars getting dirty."

Though it would seem not everybody was on his side, as a third penned: " [She wears] gloves, masks, scrubs, shoe covers - what exactly is exposed? You think she's naked while delivering babies or doing pap smears? And, well, she is a doctor, and I would think she'd know if there were particular risks to you."

A fourth added: "She’s the doctor. She has to follow rigorous hygiene procedures during her work. Apart from BO she would be fine."
