A couple who were engaged for 11 years tied the knot in a hospice care facility just three days before the bride sadly died of cancer, The Mirror reports.

While Jen Cooper, 43, and Ben Cooper, 34, first got engaged all the way back in 2010, they postponed the big day for a number of reasons including the added stress of raising their three children, work commitments, and family losses.

Jen had been previously married and had two children from that marriage. She was a doting mother of five who had only recently celebrated the five-year anniversary of being free of breast cancer.

Sadly, Jen would soon be diagnosed with cancer again. So, while she and her longtime partner had initially planned to finally get married on November 27, they had to push the date forward when Jen's health suddenly deteriorated.

The pair said their I dos at an intimate ceremony at the hospice center in Telford, England on November 17, with the guests including Jen's mother and two witnesses.

Taking to Twitter tw0 days after the ceremony, the groom reflected on the bittersweet event: "I finally married the love of my life on Wednesday. Not the day we had planned but amazing. I'm heart broken that this marriage will be counted in days not years. Don't put things off, tell the people you love that you love them now."

Sadly, Jen passed away, with Ben by her side, the day after the tweet and three days after her wedding. Following her death, the date that had originally been selected for their wedding, November 27, was instead turned into a birthday celebration for the couple's three daughters who all had birthdays around the same time.

Needless to say, Ben's Twitter post attracted a lot of attention from sympathetic users on the platform who had similar stories to share.

For example, one person shared: "11 years ago I did the same. Told on my wedding day my fiancee had hours to live as he had developed 2 aggressive cancers I got 17 hours 33minutes and 25 seconds .

"Make the most of them they will be precious. Feel free to message if you need someone to talk to."

Another added: "I know how you feel,I had 4 days of marriage till my husband passed. Treasure every moment."

Our thoughts are with Ben and Jen's friends and family at this difficult time.
