A mom has spoken out after her son's romp in the skies was caught on camera and shared across social media.
As reported by The Sun, 23-year-old Piers Sawyer's mile-high escapade became such a talking point that the last person he probably wanted to find out found out: his mom.
On a journey to the ultimate party island, Ibiza, Piers decided to get the party started early and took "joining the Mile-High Club" quite literally.
Piers, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday, met an unnamed woman at the airport just before boarding the EasyJet flight. Their steamy rendezvous in the airplane lavatory was caught on camera by a steward, leading to a raucous round of cheers from fellow passengers.
"Footage of his romp has been viewed millions of times on social media," says a source close to the story. A woman filming the incident also remarked: "I got a*** and everything."
Now, Piers' 51-year-old mom, Elaine, has shared her story and revealed how she came to learn of her son's airplane antics.
Speaking to The Sun, she said: "I was watching Loose Women and they were talking about it on there, and some of Piers’s friends started sending me the clip."
And her reaction? "It’s not something a mom wants to see," Elaine expressed, speaking from their family’s two-bedroom flat in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
"Piers doesn’t want to talk about it. He probably just wants to forget it. You’re aware these things are going to happen at the holiday destination but you don’t expect it to happen on the flight," she added.
Elaine was philosophical about her son's impulsive behavior, attributing it to the exuberance of youth and the celebratory atmosphere. "But he’s a 23-year-old single lad on his birthday, going to Ibiza. It’s a party plane," she said, adding, "You just don’t think about stuff sometimes. Yes, it’s embarrassing but I don’t think they were doing anyone any harm.”
In a statement, an EasyJet spokesperson confirmed the incident: "We can confirm that this flight from Luton to Ibiza on 8 September was met by police on arrival due to the behavior of two passengers onboard."
As per the Sexual Offences Act 2003, engaging in sexual activity in a public lavatory is an offense. The law clearly states: "A person guilty of an offense under this section is liable on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or both."
However, Elaine also pointed a finger at the steward who decided to open the lavatory door. "The air steward shouldn’t have just opened the door. The whole flight was egging him on and even he was laughing,” she said.
Piers, who works servicing cars at an Audi dealership, flew to Ibiza from Luton with his friends and has since returned home, presumably with more than just a tan.
The viral incident has made abundantly clear that what happens in the sky doesn't always stay in the sky. Whether this acts as a deterrent for others contemplating joining the Mile-High Club remains to be seen.
