Passengers applaud after woman kicked off flight for refusing to wear face mask

Wearing facemasks is of the utmost importance during the current pandemic, which is why a woman was thrown off an American Airlines flight for refusing to wear one.

The entire incident was caught on video and uploaded to TikTok by passenger Jordan Slade, who was also traveling on the July 19 flight from Ohio to North Carolina.

Slade dubbed the woman a "Karen" and revealed that she said she was exempt from wearing a facemask because of a medical condition.

Masks are mandatory on all American Airlines flights to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Slade said: "She was argumentative from the gate.

"She demanded to be boarded first and was causing an obvious scene. Once boarded she was making phone calls and arguing with the attendant when asked to put her phone away.

"She also refused to wear a mask putting others on the flight at risk… Another passenger even got up to confront her about her behavior with no mask."

In the video above, the woman can be seen taking her time removing her luggage from the overhead locker as the flight attendants waited for her at the plane's exit.

"Just leave. We have flights to get on," a passenger said in the video.

When the woman finally exited the aircraft, the other passengers burst into applause and she said: "You can clap all you want."

In response to the video, one Twitter user wrote: "How did she even get on the plane without one? Why wasn't she stopped at the gate? Did she have one on to get in the plane but refused to keep it on? Just drive 'Karen'! Geez!"

Meanwhile, a third remarked: "She thinks rules and common sense don’t apply to her. She has THREE carry on bags on a small express jet. She should have been denied boarding for that reason alone, if not denied for not wearing a mask.

"When she stops being a part of the solution she becomes the problem."
