Piers Morgan has spoken out after an online troll was reportedly arrested for making death threats against the presenter and his son.
As reported by The Sun, Morgan last night slammed people who think it's okay "to make death threats against public figures on social media."
According to The Sun, officers from two of the UK's largest police forces conducted a six-month investigation into the chilling comments and messages, which also targeted Piers' eldest son, Spencer.
One of the messages labeled Morgan as a "marked man", and stated that no security would be able to protect him.
"Your [sic] a marked man," the troll wrote. "Calling the police, big tech or beefing up your security isn’t going to stop us getting to you, this isn’t a threat piers, it’s a promise. Your [sic] getting killed."
The troll added that 28-year-old Spencer would "get it" if his dad didn't, and even went as far as to extend the threat to Spencer's mom.
On Thursday, 56-year-old Morgan told reporters: "People think it’s perfectly OK to make death threats to public figures on social media but it’s not — there has to be a line drawn, especially when family members are targeted.
"That’s why I reported it and I am grateful to the Met Police and Greater Manchester Police for taking it so seriously."
He added that: "A jail term could act as a deterrent to others."
The Sun adds that, upon recommendation by the police, Morgan installed a panic button by his bed.
Earlier today, Morgan shared the front page of The Sun's newspaper - with the headline "Piers troll arrested over death threats" - along with the message: "Cowardly threats have consequences."
The arrest reportedly occurred on August 3 - one year after the troll's first threatening message to Piers. Police also seized the troll's phone and tablets for forensic analysis.
It is believed that the unnamed man has been released on bail.
Back in February of 2021, Morgan penned a message to "the internet troll who threatened to kill [him]" in the Daily Mail. "I will find you," Morgan wrote.
"I still love Twitter, both as an unparalleled journalistic resource and as an entertaining way to interact with people," Morgan added. "But even my rhino-thick skin gets occasionally pierced by the shudderingly vile abuse that contaminates so much of it these days."

Piers Morgan has warned that he will be hitting the block button on anyone who dares to send a photo of him posing with Ghislaine Maxwell or other since-disgraced celebs.
The outspoken TV presenter, 56, did not sugarcoat his feelings about the photos in question, which include him with Maxwell, as well as Harvey Weinstein, and Rolf Harris.
Since Maxwell's guilty verdict on charges of sex trafficking late last month, Morgan has been hit with criticism by some for appearing to be pretty friendly with her in the past.
In the tweet, Morgan said that he had explained the past pictures and wrote that "anyone who sends me them going forward to make some fatuous nonsensical 'GOTCHA!' point is getting blocked."
He added: "You've been warned, so no tearful 'I was drunk, Piers, please forgive me!' pleas for mercy if you ignore this directive."
Last month, Morgan had already posted an explanation for the Maxwell picture, in a tweet addressing "everyone gleefully sending me this photo."
He said he met her "at a book launch in New York in 2013." They apparently "spoke for 5 minutes about her father Bob who once owned the Daily Mirror". Morgan added that she "seemed nice" but is obviously a "monster".
Maxwell was charged with six counts alleging that she recruited, groomed, and abused four underage girls between 1994 and 2004. She pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Maxwell, 60, was found guilty of five federal charges, including sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and three related counts of conspiracy.
Maxwell, who now faces up to 65 years in prison, showed no emotion when the verdicts were read. Judge Alison Nathan did not set a sentencing date after the verdict.
Following her verdict, Morgan took to Twitter to say that her conviction will see many rich and powerful men "sweating".
He questioned whether the defendant will list the names of other high-profile attackers who were also involved.
"Will vile sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell now sing like a canary to avoid spending the rest of her life in prison?" he wrote. "If she does, there could be a lot of rich, powerful & famous people sweating tonight… and not sweating."

Piers Morgan's Twitter account has been removed after the journalist and presenter became the victim of hacking.
The controversial figure has long used his Twitter account to communicate with his fans and share his divisive opinions - and the British personality has amassed an impressive 8.3 million followers on the social media platform.
However, his followers were recently alerted to some bizarre tweets being posted on the talk show host's account - with a number of abusive and vile posts being aimed at the late Queen Elizabeth II, Ed Sheeran, and Andrew Tate.
Per The Mirror, one tweet from the hacked account tagged the 'Shape of You' singer, before calling Sheeran a "ginger p***k", with another calling the chart-topper a "ginger f***er".
Another tweet read "f*** the Queen" and a fourth shared fake news stating that Andrew Tate had been killed in Dubai - a post that Tate directly replied to with the message: "Hard to kill".
At times, Morgan's profile name was also changed to "lol" and "Michael" - among other more offensive terms.
Following a string of inappropriate posts, Morgan's account appears to have been muted, and anybody attempting to visit his account will be met with a blank page with his profile picture and header image removed.
In response to the hacking, the official Twitter account for Morgan's talk show Uncensored - which boasts over 200,000 followers - has confirmed that the journalist is no longer in control of his account.
"In case you were wondering, @piersmorgan has been hacked," page officials wrote, including a screenshot of the hacked page. "Any chance of getting him back, @elonmusk?"
However, not all Twitter users have sympathized with Morgan over the loss of his account.
Some Twitter users have even called on the hackers to share Morgan's direct messages with stars like Christiano Ronaldo and Meghan Markle.
It is currently not known who is responsible for the hacking, but one post shared by the hackers did identify themselves as the "chuckling squad", per The Mirror.
Although, Morgan hasn't exactly kept himself out of trouble when in full control of his account.
Earlier this month, Morgan faced criticism from social media users after sharing his thoughts on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent Netflix documentary.
In fact, after some Twitter users accused him of fancying the Duchess, Morgan shared photos of his wife to counter the claims.
Additionally, he was also once branded a "stupid piece of s***" by rapper Nicki Minaj in a heated exchange on the micro-blogging site.

Piers Morgan has branded Elizabeth Hurley as "creepy" after she posted a couple of provocative pictures he believes were taken by her 18-year-old son Damian on Instagram.
In the snaps, Hurley, 55, is seen posing in nothing but a pair of underwear and a fluffy jacket exposing much of her chest.
She captioned the post: "How could I resist?"
Discussing the photos on UK breakfast show Good Morning Britain, Piers said, per the Huffington Post: "Yeah, she looks fabulous, but what are you doing Liz? A bit of snow and you get your kit off. And who took the pictures?
"Your 19-year-old son, you said, took the pictures? Isn’t that a bit creepy? What is all this! It’s what we call in the business ‘thirsty and a bit creepy’."
Disagreeing with Piers, his co-host Susanna Reid responded: "You can’t accuse other people of being thirsty when you're on national television and you have at least two columns and you’re on every single podcast young."
Piers continued: "You can think two things when you look at it – one, she looks great. Which she does. But also, 55? Getting your 19-year-old son to take pictures of you stripping off in the snow?:
"Sorry," Susanna said. "After women go over 50 are they not allowed to bare any flesh? That’s what happened to Davina McCall! She got trolled."
"No, Davina didn’t do this," Piers responded. "Come on, you can think she looks great but come on! You’re 55 – put your clothes on."
As for the Instagram comments, the photo received a mostly positive response, with one person writing: "I've been crushing on you since the 90's when I was a teenager you're still hot as f**k now I'm 37."
However, another person said of the steamy snap: "My son is the same age as yours. If I posted stuff like this I swear he'd be mortified forever."
While a different person gushed: "Well I must say this is a pleasant and most welcome surprise opening Instagram."
What do you think about the photos? Tell us in the comments.

Twitter users are rushing to defend Emily Ratajkowski after Piers Morgan critiqued the way that she was pictured holding her own baby.
Earlier this week, the 30-year-old model-turned-actress shared a series of photos of her posing with her three-month-old son Sylvester Apollo Bear.
The bikini-clad mom and her infant even had matching patterns on their respective swimming outfits as they vacationed in Turks and Caicos.
And while the photos managed to rack up over 2 million likes at the time of writing, the I Feel Pretty star did get some flak from those who felt she wasn't holding her baby properly - namely, that she wasn't supporting his head.
Emily has since turned off the comments on the post in question - but that didn't stop the critics from slamming her elsewhere.
One of the naysayers was, of course, Piers Morgan, who shared one of the snaps to his own Twitter with the caption: "That’s not how you hold a baby @emrata - and your millions of followers shouldn’t be encouraged to do the same. Happy to give you some tips if you need them."
Needless to say, the 56-year-old journalist's comments didn't go down too well with a number of his followers, many of whom accused him of "parent-shaming".
One person wrote: "What a world we live in... Moving onto parent shaming now? Why do we have such an obsession on 'how bad' other people are doing with their lives. Here's a novel idea... How about we focus on our own."
Another said: "Who are you to tell a mother how to hold her own baby?"
A third commented: "Piers it just comes across weird as f*** when you go after young women."
A different Twitter user wrote: "[Doesn't] look like the baby is complaining tho, stay on your lane, bro. [sic]"
One reasoned: "To be fair, babies are squiggly. The child could have moved into this position after being picked up."
A final user asked: "Do you deliberately hunt down females so you can teach them lessons?? FFS give it up man!"
This isn't the first time the ex-Good Morning Britain host has publically called Emily out. Back in 2016, he tweeted alongside a link to her nude Harpers Bazaar photoshoot: "Do you want me to buy you some clothes? You look freezing."

Piers Morgan has been criticized for the comments he’s made about Madonna ahead of her 40th-anniversary tour.
On the latest episode of the 57-year-old's TalkTV show, he dedicated an entire segment to his views on the 64-year-old 'Vogue' pop icon after she announced her forthcoming world tour.
On her Instagram, the songstress shared a video to accompany her announcement, which featured fellow celebrities such as Lil Wayne and Amy Schumer, and they played a risqué game of truth or dare.
In the clip, the 41-year-old comedian "dared" the musician to go on a world tour and perform her greatest hits. Madonna asked: "You think people would come to that show?," before adding: "The answer is, f*** yeah."
Watch the segment below:Before the latest installment of Piers Morgan Uncensored, the TV presenter tweeted: "I think Madonna’s become the biggest cringe-making fiasco in world entertainment."
And then during the show, the controversial broadcaster shared his unhappiness towards the news and took several moments to voice his disapproval towards the Grammy winner.
He called Madonna a "hot mess" who "should be put out to pasture," while slamming her for doing "the whole trying to be a sex kitten thing when you’re in your 60s".
Morgan also shared a series of suggestive pictures the singer posted on her social media page, including one of her lying underneath a bed with her backside on display.
He then turned to his guest, TalkTV Political Editor Kate McCann, and they debated about whether older women like Madonna should cover up their bodies.
"I think the same way when I see men prancing around all their clothes off at the age of 60, 70 to a rock star status, they get too old for it," Morgan said, before adding: "The stick doesn’t work," and that "women should, like men, grow old with some grace".
McCann went on to ask Morgan "why is older not beautiful?" to which the presenter remarked that "old is beautiful," but argued that "you can’t be a sexpot in your 60s".
The host also invited former X Factor judge Louis Walsh for the discussion and the 70-year-old said that the 'Like A Virgin' hitmaker is "iconic" before Morgan suggested that she should do her tour while sitting in a "rocking chair".
On social media, many users called out the former Good Morning Britain host for his disrespectful statements about one of the biggest pop icons.
One user wrote: "I think this is unnecessarily cruel and I would like to think Madonna is a bigger person than to care for such drivel."
Another person questioned: "Remember when you said you’d never have her on life stories then her manager leaked the letter you sent her begging her to be on it[?] Madonna’s a legend who smashed barriers for female artists and has always been an LGBT+ ally. What have you done to make the world a better place?"
A third user chimed in and commented: "Why? Because she’s a woman who’s not ashamed to be herself? Because she’s prepared to work hard and not storm out of her job when losing a public argument? Utter #Misogynist @piersmorgan speaks again."
A fourth person stated: "How dare you be so derogatory towards Madonna Piers? Just who the hell do you think you are?.."
This is not the first time the commentator has criticized the 'Hung Up' singer. Last year, he branded Madonna as "attention-seeking" after she posted a TikTok video where she threw a pair of pink panties into a trashcan.
The singer seemingly came out as gay in the clip as she wrote in the overlay text: "If I miss, I’m Gay," so Morgan remarked: "I know I’m playing into her trap, adding, "She wants attention, and I’m giving it to her. But honestly, utterly ridiculous," per News.com.au.
