President Donald Trump has shocked the public with yet another odd comment about one of his personal relationships.
The US leader is no stranger to a cringeworthy remark or two, but the 47th President keeps surprising people with the things he comes up with.
Trump was speaking to attendees outside the White House on Tuesday evening (April 28), where King Charles and Queen Camilla had arrived for a state visit to the US.
Viewers had previously noticed several details about the visit, including bruising on his left hand when he greeted the British Royals, sparking health concerns.
His initial exchanges with the King were also scrutinised, as a lip reader claimed that he brought up the subject of Vladimir Putin numerous times, with the press looking on.
King Charles had stated "America’s words carry weight and meaning" and spoke about the “bond of kinship” between the two nations, despite Trump's disdain for UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Just days after an assassination attempt on Trump, he was back speaking to the press and talking about his own ancestral links to the UK, with his mother emigrating to the US in the late 1920s.
He told attendees: "My mother, I just see it so clearly, she loved — I told the King this — she loved the royal family, and she loved the queen,
"And any time the queen was involved in a ceremony or anything, my mother would be glued to the television, and she'd say, 'Look, Donald, look how beautiful that is.'"
He even claimed that his mom thought that a young Charles was "so cute," despite there being a 36-year age gap between the two, with the latter being two years younger than Donald himself.
"My mom! My mother had a crush on Charles, can you believe it? I wonder what she's thinking right now!" he added.
Trump temporarily paused his speech, which was supposed to honor the arrival of the King of England, to joke about his 21-year marriage to former model Melania.
He was speaking about his mom and her marriage to his father, explaining: "She came to America at 19, met my incredible father, we loved him so much, we all loved him, we loved her, we loved him: Fred. And, they were married for 63 years."
Referencing his Scottish-American mother, he said to Melania: "And, uh, excuse me, if you don't mind, that's a record we won't be able to match, darling."
While attendees laughed at his apparent joke, there was a sense of unease among many viewers.
But this didn't stop the President from going on: "I'm sorry, it's just not going to work out that way. We'll do well, but we're not going to do that well."
The President's joke came nearly a week after talk show host Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about Melania being an "expectant widow."
Claiming that it was "hateful and violent rhetoric," the First Lady made a rare public comment on the monologue, while the President called for Kimmel to be fired.
Kimmel has since replied, saying in his first monologue since the Washington shooting that it was "obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they're together."
He went on: "It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination, and they know that, I've been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular," he added.
"I agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject, I think a great place to start to dial that back is having a conversation with your husband about it."
