A young German woman has been left outraged by an airline after staff allegedly told her she wasn't dressed modestly enough to board her plane.
Influencer Edda Pilz, 25, told her 552,000 Instagram followers in a video that she was refused entry to her flight on the grounds of her outfit being too revealing.
According to Pilz, known online as Edda Elisa, airline staff allegedly told her that she looked “naked” in the athleisure she was wearing.
The offensive incident took place during one of the hottest heatwaves Europe has ever faced, as temperatures soared over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in some countries.
The current heatwave is so severe that it has shattered all-time historical June records across multiple countries, putting over 94 million people under extreme "red alert", meaning a threat to life and heat warnings.
To try and cope with the heat, Pilz, like most people across the Northern hemisphere at the moment, was wearing shorts, paired with a small top that could have been mistaken for a sports bra.
However, as she attempted to board her Lufthansa flight by scanning her boarding pass, an airline representative reportedly told her: "You cannot board."
Allegedly, she was told: “You have nothing on. You are naked."
It was only after following the instructions to cover up, Pilz put on a hoodie and zipped it up to the top, that she was allowed to enter the plane and take her seat.
In a statement made to LADBible, the airline said: "Lufthansa takes indications of potential irregularities in the way passengers are handled very seriously and reviews such incidents internally."
The spokesperson continued: "As a general principle, Lufthansa expects all passengers to wear clothing appropriate to the nature of public travel and not to impair the well-being of fellow passengers from a wide range of countries.
"This expectation forms part of our General Conditions of Carriage. Our employees act on this basis with due discretion and within the scope of their judgment."
However, the Germany-based airline was adamant that it allows employees to act with “due discretion” to ensure passengers adhere to their rules on an aircraft.
Worldwide, all airlines have the right to deny their passengers entry to a flight if they deem them to be dressed in “offensive or inappropriate” attire.

A young British woman's holiday was "ruined" when she was told by airplane staff she would be removed from her flight unless she "covered up".
On March 2, Emily O'Connor was confronted by a Thomas Cook flight attendant who claimed her outfit was "inappropriate" and she could only travel to Tenerife if she put on a jacket.
However, when she shared a photo of her outfit online, most people agreed that what she was wearing caused no offence.
Dressed in a pair of orange trousers and a black strappy bralette, the 21-year-old made it through security and passport control without any problems. But when she boarded the plane, she was allegedly "surrounded" by four members of staff who told her to cover up because she was "causing offence".
Writing on Twitter, she said the incident became more hostile as she was verbally abused by a man onboard, with staff doing nothing to stop him.
"I informed the staff that there is no 'appropriate wear' policy stipulated online. I stood up on the flight and asked if anyone was offended, no-one said a word..." she said. "To top it off they allowed a man hurl abuse at me whilst the Flight manager and 4 air staff stood and said nothing... A man then shouted “Shut up you pathetic woman. Put a f*cking jacket on”- the staff said nothing to him [sic]".
Emily, who was flying from Birmingham to Tenerife with five cousins, claimed she eventually relented and put on a jacket that her cousin gave her. However, she asserted that staff "did not leave until I physically put it on" and continued to "make comments over the speaker about the situation and left me shaking and upset on my own".

Speaking to Metro Online, she added: "It completely ruined my holiday. I was physically shaking, I was so embarrassed. I felt it was sexist and misogynistic. I felt so vulnerable."
Uploading a picture of the outfit she wore on the day, the young woman asked people on Twitter to vote in a poll to conclude whether or not her clothes were appropriate. As it stands, over 23,000 people have voted, with 85 per cent insisting that her choice of clothing was acceptable, and 15 per cent opting for "inappropriate flying wear".
Furthermore, dozens of outraged social media users commented on Emily's post, claiming they were appalled she had been treated this way by staff.
One person wrote: "I’m crew myself and would not think twice to ask you to cover up, there is no policy on what you can and cannot wear! That is awful to see that the crew on board made you feel that way, disgusting! [sic]"
"Shocking. Can't actually believe they actually went on like that to start with and can't believe nobody else spoke up," another added.
After her post went viral on Twitter, with more than 8,500 likes and 3,500 retweets, a spokesman for Thomas Cook responded, saying the airline was "sorry" to have upset Miss O'Connor and it was "clear" they could have "handled the situation better".
He said: "It's clear we could have handled the situation better. In common with most airlines, we have an appropriate clothing policy. This applies equally to men and women of all ages without discrimination. Our crews have the difficult task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right."
The airline added that its policy states customers wearing "inappropriate attire (including items with offensive slogans or images) will not be permitted to travel unless a change of clothes is possible".

Fitness content creator Anna Clara Rios - who boasts 644K followers on Instagram - took to the social media platform to share a video explaining the incident late last week.
The alleged incident took place as Rios was flying home to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from a work-related trip to São Paulo on December 14, per Daily Mail.
In the clip which was initially posted on her Instagram Story, Rios can be seen standing in the aisle describing the incident next to the alleged culprit - who is seen in his seat, nonchalantly looking at his phone.

Cited by the outlet, the influencer claims that she was warned of the man's alleged actions by a flight attendant, saying: "My first reaction [to the flight attendant] was, 'I work on social media, he must have recognized me.'
"But she said to me, 'I don't think that's it, while you were sleeping, he was zooming in and trying to see what was under your dress,'" she continued.
The content creator decided to confront the man and urged him to delete the pictures from his phone. She also revealed that the alleged culprit sent the snaps to someone on WhatsApp, per the New York Post.
"I felt very vulnerable and insecure so I told the flight attendant that I was going to confront him because I wanted him to delete the photos from his mobile phone," she said.
"I went to him feeling that my privacy had been invaded, I said this was not right, that I could be his mother, sister, or daughter," Rios added.
According to Daily Mail, the influencer took a screenshot of the message to later share with authorities. After the alleged incident, she said that officers were waiting to accompany the guy off the plane at Belo Horizonte International Airport.
In the footage, a police officer can be seen speaking to the man, before he is led off the plane to the sound of passengers applauding the woman.
Furthermore, Rios also gave a statement to the police and said the man was taken to a nearby police station to give a statement as well but was not placed under arrest.

In her video, the 25-year-old - who boasts 703K followers - appears to be sitting in first class on a flight from New York to Paris. with a glass of champagne in hand.
The TikToker penned in the caption "When a family asks me to switch seats on the plane so they can sit together," followed by a raised eyebrow emoji. She also included the background audio: "f*** them kids and f*** you too" - as an apparent statement of defiance about the request.

One user said: "As a mother of 2 … I fully agree with your stance lol," and another remarked: "As a mom, I fully agree! It’s only okay if your new seat would be better than the one you paid for!!!"
A third penned: "Yo honestly this energy right here," while a fourth added: "1000%, it blows my mind that people sometimes then proceed to give you an attitude bc you don’t want to switch."
Peters wasn't the only woman on TikTok who was also trumpeted by viewers for refusing to accommodate another passenger's wish.
TikToker Dr. Sabra - who goes by the handle @lifewithdrsabra - also shared a video revealing that she was asked to swap her 1A seat - which is the first seat in the first row of a plane and the most sought-after among travelers who fly first class - with a toddler.
In the viral video, she wrote in the overlay text: "POV: Flight agent asks me if I want to give up my 1A seat so a child sits with their family," and from the cheerful expression on Dr. Sabra's face you can tell that she did not agree to the proposal and was extremely happy to have turned down the request.
The doctor also used the same TikTok audio of a person saying: "Girl, f*** them kids and f*** you too," which is often utilized by creators to accompany clips in which they choose not to make sacrifices for other people’s children.

A young woman was reduced to tears over a shocking confrontation she had with a flight attendant.
In a TikTok posted on August 1, Sierra Steadman claimed that she was harassed by a member of the cabin crew on a recent Alaska Airlines flight when she was traveling to California to play volleyball.
Sierra can be seen wearing a mask and openly weeping over her humiliating ordeal in the video shared on social media.
Sierra said she had "never felt more degraded, ashamed, embarrassed, angry or sad," writing:
"When the flight attendant s1uT shames you in front of the whole plane and threatens to kick you off for what your wearing. [sic]"
In a follow-up video, she testified that she had been wearing a crop top, a hoodie, and shorts when the stewardess took exception to her outfit.
She later took to the comments section of her own video, to elaborate the Alaska Airlines employee grabbed her arm and started screaming at her why she tried to walk away.
Her post clearly resonated with other TikTok users, racking up over 9.1 million views and over 12,000 supportive comments, at the time of writing.
One flight attendant wrote: "Hi love, Flight attendant here! Please report her to [customer] service. These older flight attendants with their old ways need to start retiring!"
A second added: "Honestly she is probably jealous that she isn't confident enough to wear those clothes so just know you're beautiful."
Another added: "They're legally not allowed to do that. And their boss is probably on board."
While a stewardess wrote: "As a flight attendant, I'm so sorry that happened to you [...] she was probably jealous cause 99% of us could care less about what passengers wear."
Finally, another penned: "I've literally never heard of a plane dress code it's a public place just like the rest of the world that's so wrong you shouldn't have had to go."
In a later video, Sierra said her mother Shannon emailed Alaska Airlines after filing a complaint. She then shared a spokesperson's response, which read: "Alaska strives to provide exceptional service to our customers. From what you have shared, it is apparent that we have failed."
The spokesperson continued: "You and your daughter should expect nothing less than to be treated with the utmost respect, compassion, and care.
"It is truly disappointing to hear that you both did not feel that way during boarding and during the interactions with our flight attendant."
They added: "We want to assure you that we take these matters very seriously and have shared your concern with our Inflight Management team that will conduct an internal investigation.
"Due to privacy concerns, we will not be able to disclose any findings, but can guarantee you that this will be reviewed."

In what appears to be a hot topic at the moment, people are defending an influencer who refused to switch seats in order for a family to sit together.
The thought of not having a pre-booked seat on a flight is a frightening thing, but sometimes booking late means that the choices are few and far between.
If traveling in a big group it's always advisable to book early to avoid disappointment and to ensure that the kids get a window seat so there aren't any tears.
But sometimes those who failed to plan efficiently ask those around them to switch seats which can create some pretty awkward encounters.
Though clearly not for one influencer, who took being asked to switch seats in her stride as she refused them and laughed it off with a glass of champagne in hand, because in the immortal words of Stewie Griffin: "Your poor planning does not constitute an emergency for me."
Audrey Peters, 25, has over 623,000 followers on TikTok and uploaded a video with the caption: "No I’m not switching for a middle seat book your flights earlier babes."
Clearly unfazed by being asked to switch, Peters happily sips on her champagne while text over the video reads: "When a family asks me to switch seats on a plane so they can sit together."
The video has been viewed over one million times, and what can normally be a divisive topic appears to have brought people together in harmony as there is a large consensus that Peters did the right thing.
One person commented: "I’m so sick of people thinking it’s ok to disrupt someone for their lack of planning."
A second person added: "If you’re asking to switch seats my new seat has to be equal or better than where I am now. Otherwise no dice."
While a third said: "I wouldn’t have moved either. That’s the whole reason I pick my seats and my flight months in advance."
Though another comment read: "A lady once offered to swap with me so I could sit by my husband and I was like nah, I’m all good," which seems like an entirely separate conversation in itself.
Another user joked: "I would simply *never* ask. My kid could be seated 5 rows away and I'd be like well... see ya in arrivals."
Others pointed out that it is usually a middle seat that someone wants to swap out for a better seat - so most users wouldn't say yes to it to inconvenience themselves to allow others to sit together.
It seems like the internet is finally living in harmony, and it's all thanks to people who don't efficiently plan their journey.
