Harrowing update on one of the students married teacher had s*x with because of ‘irresistible’ urges
Two years after an Australian married teacher was sentenced to over a year in prison after she had sex with two teenage students, a sad update on one of the victims has surfaced.
Despite claiming that her “irresistible” impulses were driven by bipolar disorder, Tayla Lee Brailey, 32, has ended up behind bars, having lost her husband and job.
In August 2024, Brailey was arrested for having sex with a 17-year-old boy in her car, before returning to teach her classes.
Brailey was busted again just weeks after her first arrest
However, just weeks after being released on bail, she was busted again. It surfaced shortly after her first conviction that she had also touched a 16-year-old student’s genitals in her classroom.
Tragically, the victim said in a statement that the experience still overwhelms him with shame.
According to the Canberra Times, the younger of the two victims was groomed online by Brailey, who sent him a picture of her in the shower naked and asked: “Do you like what you see?”
Allegedly, she coerced him into sending a nude photo in response, to which she replied: "Yum".
The former educator then penned: "Stay back with me after school."
During Bailey’s sentencing, the judge, Justice Elizabeth Ryan, said the then-16-year-old victim “has been feeling ashamed and had to leave high school before he finished … because of the shame he felt.
“He had suffered lack of sleep and flashbacks … he said none of his friends at high school speak to him anymore.”
The court also heard that Brailey was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which she claims impaired her judgment and increased her sex drive, causing her to have an “irresistible impulse” for sex with her teenage students.
The teacher was sentenced to over a year in jail
While the judge acknowledged that her crimes were "terrible mistakes," she also noted that Brailey “used her position as a teacher … to abuse the trust of two young persons.”
Judge Ryan added: “It is also relevant that she knew what she was doing was wrong but persisted with it.
“Offences like this cause immense harm to the trust that must exist between families and the education system.”
Eventually ruling: “For these reasons … no penalty other than imprisonment is appropriate.”
In the end, Brailey was sentenced to nine months in prison for having sex with the 17-year-old student, and a year for sexually touching the 16-year-old boy, with an aggregate term of 15 months in jail.
As a result, she has been placed on the child protection register for 15 years.
Although Brailey is not eligible for parole until next year, she has reportedly begun training as an accountant after being forced to leave teaching.
