Britney Spears is enjoying a lot of firsts to mark the end of her conservatorship, one being her first glass of champagne in 13 years.
On Friday, November 12, a judge put an end to the conservatorship that has controlled the singer's personal, professional and financial matters since 2008.
After the historic ruling, Britney, 39, has naturally been in the mood to celebrate as she enjoyed her first sip of alcohol in more than a decade.
She told her Instagram followers: "What an amazing weekend … I felt like I was on cloud 9 the whole time !!! I actually got my first glass of champagne at the most beautiful restaurant I’ve ever seen last night !!!!"
The mom-of-two added: "I'm celebrating my freedom and my B day for the next two months !!!!!!!!!!! I mean after 13 years … I think I’ve waited long ENOUGH !!!!"
It's believed that Britney, who turns 40 in December, wasn't allowed to drink alcohol per the terms of the conservatorship.
Celebrating the landmark decision, the singer took to Instagram to thank her fans.
"Good God I love my fans so much it's crazy," she wrote alongside a video of fans celebrating the ruling outside the courthouse. "I think I'm gonna cry the rest of the day!!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen????"
Spears was not physically present for Friday's hearing, though her lawyer Mathew Rosengart was in attendance on her behalf. He told the press that he was "so proud" of the singer for shining a light on all conservatorships.
The popstar also used the hashtag #FreedBritney, a new spin on the #FreeBritney tagline associated with her fans who had been trying to bring attention to her experience living under the legal guardianship.
Earlier this year, the 'Toxic' singer asked Judge Brenda Penny to terminate the controversial arrangement, which was set up by her father Jamie in 2008 at the height of her mental health struggles.
The decision to end the guardianship comes after Jamie, 69, was removed from his position as conservator in September as the court sought a complete end to the conservatorship.
This past summer, the #FreeBritney movement came to a head as the singer spoke out publicly against her father and the conservatorship in an explosive court testimony.
In the first hearing on June 23, in which the 'Gimme More' chart-topper appeared virtually, Britney referred to the conservatorship as "abusive".
She told the judge she had been prohibited from getting married and having a baby and was not permitted to remove her IUD.
Britney even said that her father and "anyone involved in this conservatorship" should be incarcerated. She also claimed that she was "forced to take Lithium" as a "punishment".
In another court appearance on July 16, Britney told the judge that she has "always been scared" of her dad's drinking.
