Angelina Jolie's older brother, James Haven, has come out as gay following the end of his marriage to his wife, Romi Imbelli.
Haven, 53, who is the son of Jon Voight and the late Marcheline Bertrand, opened up about his sexuality on 44-year-old Imbelli's Instagram.
He told followers: "I, James Haven, begin a new chapter of my life. After many years of healing from childhood trauma, I am now free to live the life that I believe I was always meant to live.
"One of hope, one of peace and one of love. So as my story unfolds, I want you all to know that I do it with an open heart, with nothing but love for myself and for all of you."
He added: "Thank you for allowing me to be what I was meant to be."
Haven and Imbelli got married on August 12, 2024, but announced the following March that their marriage had been anulled, with the paperwork having been filed just 15 days after their wedding.
Haven decided to go public with his sexuality on Imbelli's Substack, Breathe Mija, confirming in a video: "I'm gay," to which she responded with a laugh: "As gay as gay can be."
He then added: "I’m a lot of things. I’m trying to keep my humility right now."
Haven continued: "I hope my family and others can choose love over fear, understanding over judgment, and connection over the beliefs that may have kept us apart.
"I hope they can look beyond the labels and simply see me with the same heart, the same laugh, the same soul they’ve always known."
Imbelli added in the caption of the post: "I wasn’t here to out someone I love. I was here to help set someone free. There is a difference. In return he set me free."
Haven is best known for starring alongside his sister in the 1998 HBO film Gia and 2001’s Original Sin.
Jolie attended the 2000 Academy Awards, where she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Girl, Interrupted, and brought Haven as her guest.
The pair made headlines around the world after kissing on the lips on the red carpet, with Jolie saying in her acceptance speech: "I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now.
"He just held me and said he loved me and I know he’s so happy for me, and thank you for that."

Angelina Jolie's older brother has taken part in a rare interview where he has opened up about his relationship with his sister.
The Oscars have seen a few eyebrow-raising moments in its time, but Jolie sharing a kiss with her brother James Haven stands out as one of the most notable.
During her 2000 Academy Award acceptance speech for her role in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie shocked the audience by expressing her love for her brother, saying: "I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now. He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that."
The controversy escalated at the Vanity Fair afterparty when Jolie and Haven, posing for the cameras, shared a brief kiss on the lips, capturing the attention of the media and becoming a magazine cover sensation.
This came weeks after Jolie and Haven again shared a kiss at the Golden Globes ceremony in 2000.
Now, in a rare interview on the 90Who10 podcast, Haven has opened up about their relationship and his role as a protective brother, especially during challenging times in the public eye.
Haven discussed his close bond with Jolie, addressing his protective instincts towards both the actress and her children amid the public scrutiny of her high-profile divorce from Brad Pitt.
Reflecting on their relationship, Haven shared: "That's where it all started, it started with the protection of her and then of her children, my nieces and nephews. There are those massively formative years, they're becoming young adults in their early 20s."
He emphasized the natural inclination to be protective and expressed a desire to be present for Jolie and her family, much like their late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, had instilled in them.
Haven stated: "[It's] a quality I got from my mom... I set my life up so I can be present with whatever the situation. The formative years, the young adults they're going to become, I want to be there for them - or for her - whatever she's going through."
This interview marked the first time Haven publicly addressed his relationship with Jolie and shed light on their collaborative efforts, often behind the scenes.
He highlighted their shared interests, especially in initiatives focused on helping children. Haven hinted at future collaborations, stating: "And I know there's going to be many things in the future that we'll probably be working on...there's many things in the future that I think we'll do together."
Following the kiss at the Vanity Fair party, Haven addressed the incident in a 2007 interview with the Daily Mail, saying: "I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely. She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas.
"I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing."
Jolie also addressed it, as she spoke to Entertainment Weekly, dismissing any "incest rumors." She emphasized: "My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter," clarifying that the kiss was a simple expression of "brotherly love."
Fans have been left pretty confused by resurfaced photos of Angelina Jolie kissing her biological brother on the lips.
The Oscars have a storied history filled with jaw-dropping moments, but few can forget the time when Jolie, Hollywood royalty, planted a kiss on her brother, igniting a media frenzy that lasted for years.
At the 2022 event, we witnessed one of the most talked-about incidents in Oscars history when Will Smith took to the stage to confront comedian Chris Rock, who had made an ill-advised joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
We all know what happened next, don't we?
However, the Oscars have long been a breeding ground for shocking moments, where the sheer magnitude of celebrity presence can lead to unexpected occurrences.
One such instance took place back in 2000 when Jolie, then a rising star at 24, attended the prestigious event with her brother, James Haven, who was 26 at the time.
During her Academy Award acceptance speech for her role in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie remarked: "I’m surprised nobody’s ever fainted up here," and then turned her attention to her brother, stating: "I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now.
"He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that."
The controversy unfolded further at the Vanity Fair afterparty when Jolie and Haven, posing for the cameras side by side, shared a brief kiss on the lips.
This fleeting moment was captured by the photographers, gracing the front pages of numerous newspapers and eventually becoming a magazine cover sensation.
Here we are 25 years later, and people still can't quite get their heads around the bizarre interaction.
The footage has since gone viral again and people have rushed to offer their thoughts.
One person wrote: "She's was always about the attention & shock value also she's always been a strange one.
"Remember when she and Billy Bob hooked up (that's a whole story in itself) and she had them wear vials of each others blood around their necks?"
Though some have defended the star, as another wrote: "My brother and I kiss on the lips, my son has always kissed me on the lips! Just pecks, nothing wrong with that!"
Addressing the media's speculation surrounding their relationship, Jolie spoke to Entertainment Weekly a few months later, firmly dismissing any "incest rumors."
She emphasized: "My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter."
Jolie went on to explain that the kiss was a simple expression of "brotherly love."
Haven, in a 2007 interview with the Daily Mail, also clarified the incident, stating: "I did not give Angie a French kiss.
"It was something simple and lovely.
"She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming 'Original Sin' with Antonio Banderas.
"I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing."
There we have it, what is often seen as one of the Oscars' most "shocking" moments was nothing more than a quick peck on the lips between a brother and sister.
The Oscars have had some fairly shocking moments over the years, but few come close to when Angelina Jolie planted a kiss on her brother.
Last year we got to see one of the most talked about moments in Oscars history as Will Smith walked on stage to slap Chris Rock following a poorly-judged joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Everybody knows what happened that night - with Smith storming the stage and assaulting the host before yelling "keep my wife's name out your f**king mouth - but the fallout meant that the Academy put a "crisis team" in place this year just in case somebody wanted to get physical over a joke again.
But it's inevitable that when celebrities congregate in one place, the personalities will take over and some shocking moments will occur, and Angelina Jolie gave us one of these instances back in 2000.
A 24-year-old Jolie was an up-and-coming star at that point, and she even bagged an Academy Award for her role in Girl Interrupted.
Joining her at the ceremony was her then-26-year-old brother James Haven, and it was with him that the controversy happened.
During her acceptance speech, Jolie said: "I’m surprised nobody’s ever fainted up here," before giving a nod to her brother. "I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now. He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that."

While the interaction was extremely brief, the image made it to many of the papers the following day and magazine covers soon followed.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly a few months later, Jolie dismissed any "incest rumors" by saying: "My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter." The star added that the kiss was nothing more than "brotherly love."
Haven also addressed the incident in 2007 during an interview with the Daily Mail. He said: "I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely.
"She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas. I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing."
Jolie's romantic life has often been the subject of public interest, with her high-profile divorce from Brad Pitt making the front pages.
During the romantic turmoil with her then-husband, Haven stepped in and looked after their children while the pair figured out the finer details of separation.
There we have it, what is often seen as one of the Oscars most "shocking" moments was nothing more than a quick peck on the lips between a brother and sister.
JoJo Siwa has candidly revealed that Jenna Dewan and Demi Lovato played a major role in her "very first gay awakening".
On Wednesday, July 14, the 18-year-old entertainer appeared as a guest on the latest episode of Demi Lovato's podcast, 4D With Demi Lovato, where she opened up to the singer about coming out, her love life, and her "very first gay awakening".
Speaking to Lovato, JoJo said: "Everything about it was just so natural, it was just meant to be. I've been figuring out my 'gay awakenings' recently. I think I realized that my very first gay awakening was Jenna Dewan's performance on Lip Sync Battle."
The show Lip Sync Battle saw Dewan, who was married to Channing Tatum at the time, mime the words to her former husband's Magic Mike performance...
Check out the full 4D With Demi Lovato episode here:JoJo also credited Lovato as well as one of the singer's dancers with solidifying her gay awakening.
The former Dance Moms star added: "I think that was one of them, but then I remember - do you remember your dancer, her name is Jojo Gomez, and you did 'Cool for the Summer' together? I remember seeing that and just being a little too interested."
It turns out that Demi also felt that the song played an important part in their own coming out as it allowed them to hint at their sexuality without having to be upfront about it.
"I didn't come out until 2017," said the former Disney star. "But 'Cool for the Summer' was like 2015. So that to me, it was my way of saying, ‘I’m not ready to come out but…'"
Demi came out as pansexual in March during an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan.
The singer told Joe: "I also don't know if I'm going to end up with a guy, so I can't really see myself maybe getting pregnant. I'm so fluid now - and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off."
In May, they came out as non-binary in an Instagram post, in which they said: "I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward."
JoJo came out in January - although did not specify her exact sexual orientation. She is currently dating Kylie Prew, per Cosmopolitan.
