Britney Spears has opened up about her recent personal life in a very candid and vulnerable Instagram post, as rumours begin to swirl over the singer's mental state.

Spears, now 37 years old, had checked into a mental health facility earlier this month following news of her father suffering a life-threatening colon rupture. But since then, rumours have circulated that Britney Spears (who suffered a highly-publicised melt‑down in 2007) was being held at this facility against her will.

Her family have since been on the receiving end of death threats, and the #FreeBritney movement has been started to allegedly free the singer from the clutches from her father, Jamie Spears, who has held control of her finances since 2008.

But in an Instagram post, Britney Spears poured cold water on those rumours, and reassured her 21 million followers that there was nothing untoward going on at that mental health facility.

"I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control," Spears began in her Instagram post.

"Wow!!! There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear."

"These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago... I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address," Britney Spears clarified.

"My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment ??? You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way."

"If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you," Britney Spears finished, and her followers were more than supportive of the singer during what must be a very difficult time.

Back in January, Spears announced that she was taking an indefinite break from her Britney: Domination tour to help take care of her father as he battled with the condition, and it's not clear how much longer 66-year-old Jamie Spears has to live.

Britney Spears's Instagram account has been deactivated, and fans are concerned for her well-being.

Britney, 41, has vanished from the social media platform for the third time in four months, with fans being left unsure whether the star is in control of her account, per the Daily Mail.

Questions arose when the singer posted a message to her estranged sister Jamie Lynn, and some fans speculated that the complimentary post was not sent by Britney herself.

Fans of the pop star are understandably protective after the singer spent nearly 14 years in a conservatorship, which saw all aspects of her life controlled by those around her - including her father.

Britney's followers have now taken to TikTok to voice recent concerns over the singer, with some speculating that the singer could be in genuine trouble.

An account titled "Britney's not free" has taken to the video platform to claim that Britney's family and friends are creating a "charade" and that the singer could be deceased.

The account goes on to state that Britney is "definitely not out in public" and that she hopes the singer is "just locked up" as opposed to something more sinister.

Another video - posted to the platform by Barb (@fleegus159_barb) - called into question a recent clip that Britney uploaded to Instagram where she was thanking her husband Sam Ashgari for her birthday celebrations. 

The video asked: "Ok I'm just gonna say it. Britney is not free. Or she's already gone. WTF IS THIS!?!?! Where is she!?!? Why does this sound like they're playing sound bits of her voice!?!? Why is she wearing her COVID EXTENSIONS!?!? Where is she!!??"

Commentators on both videos have also stated their concern, with one person saying: "Sounds like a recording of her. She’s not there. It’s actually just a video of him. I think she’s really not free. He’s controlling her now."

A second person added: "It really is so weird that she’s not out in public ANYWHERE. Unless she really is just so scared to be out there… because trauma. But omg," and a third said: "I need a live interview where I actually see her…"

Britney Spears has responded to her son Jayden’s remarks about how she has "struggled" to love her children as a mother.

Jayden Federline, 15, and Sean Preston Federline, 16, sat down with filmmaker Daphne Barak on ITV News for an interview that is set to air on Friday (September 2). During the candid conversation, the brothers broke their silence on where they stand with their mother, per Page Six.

In the forthcoming interview, Jayden expressed disappointment in the 40-year-old 'Toxic' singer and said: "I think mom has struggled [to give] us both attention and showing us equal love and I don’t think she showed enough to Preston and I feel really bad for that."

"We’ve both been through so much pressure in the past that this is our safe place now, to process all the emotional trauma we’ve been through to heal, heal our mental state," he added.

According to their father, Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline, the teenagers haven’t seen their mother in months.

The younger son spoke for himself and his older brother and explained the difficulty of having a mom constantly in the spotlight. However, he believes their relationship is repairable.

"It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort," he said. "I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better I really want to see her again."

The teen also made comments where he defended her father and former conservator, Jamie Spears, as well as claims about her mental health. Despite it all, he addressed his mother directly and shared how much he loves her.

"I love you a lot, I hope for the best for you," Jayden said to the 'Baby One More Time' singer. "Maybe one day we can sit down like this and talk again."

On Thursday night (September 1), in a lengthy four-part post on Instagram, Spears responded to her son’s comments, writing: "I’ve tried my best at being the best person I can be."

"Finally at 40 without the restraints of what my family did to me… I say to my son Jayden that I send all the love in the world to you every day for the rest of my life!!!!

"My love for my children has boundaries and it deeply saddens me to know his outcry of saying I wasn’t up his expectations of a mother… and maybe one day we can meet face to face and talk about this openly!!!!" she wrote. "Maybe dear child YOU can explain why our family would do that to anyone!!!"

The 'Stronger' singer then urged her younger son to "remember" where he "came from," writing: "I hope you can look in the mirror and remember… you are my child and always will be. Since Preston didn’t speak, I send my love."

Spears also responded to Jayden’s comments about her mental health, asking her son to "pick up a book and read" before speaking on her "intellect".

She also referred to the part he defended her father Jamie and wrote that she has "failed as a mother" if they agree with the conservatorship she was under for 13 years, adding: "Try to learn WHAT’S GOOD"."

Britney Spears, who has become decidedly more vocal about her mental health and overall wellbeing in recent months, is now opening up about the loneliness she sometimes experience due to the abundance of "fake" people in her life.

The 37-year-old also drew attention to the often vitriolic abuse she sees in the comment sections of her posts.

Taking to Instagram, the Oops... I did It Again singer shared an image with the words "Pay close attention to the people who don't clap when you win" written on it.

She captioned the post:

"Living in LA is such a trip !!! It can be lonely at times. You never know who to trust, and some people can be fake. I have a very small circle of friends, and simply do what makes me happy !!! It breaks my heart to see the comments on my posts sometimes .... so I simply choose not to look anymore ... let the clever haters do what they do best .... hate!!!"

Of course, Britney's many devoted followers took to the comments to shower their idol with love and support.

"Have you ever met a hater doing better than you? Me neither," wrote one fan.

"Disable the comments Britney," another chimed in "They aren’t worth it."

"They are more people out there who love you than hate you and there are many positive comments in your posts," wrote a third. "But I understand wheee you are coming from. Do what makes you happy."

Amongst those sharing their support for the sentiments expressed by Britney was her 25-year-old boyfriend, Sam Asghari.

"Winners don’t hate or bully, losers (haters) only do because they don’t have what you have (which is the best heart in the world)," he wrote alongside a heart emoji.

Last year, the model and personal trainer told Men's Health:

"She motivates me more than anyone. It's crazy how I can be humbled by a person like her. If I could be that humble when I'm that high in life, that would be the best thing. I grew up with three sisters, and my personality is just to be a supportive person for my family and she's family. I'm always going to support her. She is another blessing that happened to me."

Britney Spears has hit back at her teenage sons.

In a recent joint interview with their dad, Kevin Federline, the pop star's kids explained why they didn't attend her wedding to Sam Asghari earlier this year.

Preston, 16, and Jayden, 15, claimed that their mom's mental illness is still putting pressure on their relationship. They also defended their grandfather Jamie Spears, who has been maligned by the singer's fans ever since her controversial conservatorship came to an end in 2021.

"I love you a lot, I hope for the best for you. Maybe one day we can sit down like this and talk again," Jayden said in the interview published by MailOnline.

Now, Britney has taken to Instagram to clap back at her sons, slamming them as "hateful" and accusing them of wanting her money in a lengthy audio clip that has since been deleted.

"I can totally understand why my family would have a problem with me doing my own thing, maybe because I never have," she began. "I’m sure it is a little bit different and a touch lighter, me not being responsible for three 18-wheeler trucks with tour equipment and thousands of people to be responsible for on tour."

The star went on to criticize her son for wishing her well, claiming he was only trying to "undermine" her, saying: "Jayden, as you undermine my behavior just like my family always has, with 'Hope she gets better, I will pray for her'. Pray for what? I keep working so I can pay off mom’s legal fees and her house?"

She continued to rage against her sons, accusing them of only wanting her money. "Do you guys want me to get better so I can continue to give your dad $40,000 a month? Or is the reason behind you guys deciding to be hateful because it’s actually over in two years and you don’t get anything?"

When Britney and her boys' dad Kevin divorced in 2019, he was reportedly given 70% custody of the children. The Grammy-winner went on to say that nothing had ever been good enough for Jayden and Preston - and that when she had asked to see them more, they had responded by abandoning her.

"If I didn’t shower you guys with gifts and have amazing food ready, and play a mother***ing saint, it was still never good enough," she said, adding: "That one time I asked you, looking straight in your eyes, 'I wanna see you more', you called your dad, I never saw you again."

Britney concluded by claiming that the boys were "just like [her] other family" and that they "secretly loved looking at me as something was wrong with me."
