Fan pays $85,000 for date with tennis star Eugenie Bouchard

A "crazy" fan has paid a whopping $85,000 (£70,000) for a dinner date with Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard - with all the proceeds going to charity.

The 26-year-old Wimbledon runner-up auctioned off the chance to accompany her on a date as part of the 'All In Challenge' - which has seen hundreds of celebrities attempt to raise money amid the virus outbreak by auctioning off once in a lifetime experiences or memorabilia.

For example, the cast of Friends offered up the opportunity for somebody to bring five of their friends along to the taping of their highly anticipated HBO reunion show.

However, Bouchard's once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not only included a dinner date with the stunning athlete, but also a seat to watch her play in a tennis tournament of their choice.

The description for the prize read:

"Get more than your 15 seconds of fame with Genie Bouchard.

"The lucky winner and a guest will go to any tennis tournament of their choice. That's right, US Open, French Open, Wimbledon or the Australian Open - Genie has the airfare covered.

"Sit in the player's box next to Genie's team and coach while you cheer her on to victory.

"Enjoy a meal with the tennis star and even get a racket and sneakers signed by Genie herself."

In total, 37 bids were placed, with offers starting at a minimum of $3000 (£2,500). However, nobody could outbid the eventual winner - who is yet to be identified.

Following the end of the auction and the incredible sum of money raised, Bouchard took to Instagram to write: "85K?!?!? you guys are AMAZING!!! i’m so grateful and proud of you all for joining me on this project. i can’t wait to meet the winner!

"This will help those in need so much. the proceeds go to @mealsonwheelsamerica, @nokidhungry, @americasfoodfund, @wckitchen & @feedingamerica."

But this isn't the first time Bouchard - who was formerly seeded at number 5 in the world - has gone on a date with a total stranger.

Back in 2017, she met up with a Twitter follower after losing a bet on the Super Bowl.

Amazingly, Bouchard enjoyed her time so much with lucky John Goehrke that she even arranged a second date.
