Graham Norton has shed light on a surprising behind-the-scenes detail regarding Taylor Swift's appearance on his popular BBC talk show last autumn.
The chart-topping singer, who recently tied the knot, made a late addition to the guest list last October while promoting her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
When Swift joined the broadcast, viewers noticed that the famous red sofa looked exceptionally crowded. This cozy arrangement was not a coincidence, as Norton recently explained the logistics of her booking in an interview with GQ.
According to the host, the pop star was booked at the very last minute, presenting the production team with a difficult scheduling dilemma.
Because the episode was already fully booked, the show's producers initially assumed they would have to remove another guest to make room for the global superstar. "The show was fully booked. So we thought, 'We’re going to have to bump somebody'," Norton told the magazine.
However, Swift refused to let anyone lose their spot on the program. "Word came back from Taylor: no one must be bumped," Norton revealed. This decision meant that the sofa remained packed, but it ultimately led to an unexpected collaboration for everyone involved.
Because of the crowded lineup, every single guest on the couch that night ended up participating in Swift's music video for her song 'Opalite,' which was released the following February.
The star-studded sofa that night included Irish actor Cillian Murphy, Lewis Capaldi, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith. During the recording, Gleeson made a joke about wanting to appear in one of her videos, which sparked an idea for Swift.
"I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too," Swift later explained to her fans on Instagram. She described the host as "insanely charismatic and lovable."
The singer expressed immense gratitude for how the group came together to support the project, comparing the experience to a fun collective effort. "Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory. To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90s with us and help with this video," she shared.
Swift added that she "got ridiculously lucky with the group [she] was paired with, as they were "all people whose work [she’s] admired from afar."

Taylor Swift has spoken out about the real reason that she turned down the Super Bowl as she continues to promote her new album.
The star returned to The Tonight Show on Monday, October 6, marking her first appearance on the show since her Midnights era in 2022.
The 35-year-old pop icon sat down with host Jimmy Fallon for a rapid-fire game of rumor-busting, and she truly put some things to bed.
Among the hottest topics on Fallon’s list: rumors that Swift had turned down the Super Bowl halftime show because she didn't want to deal with performance footage issues.
The answer? “No,” Swift said. She offered a more personal explanation.
“Here’s the thing,” she began. “Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are very close. They sometimes will call and say how does she feel about... and that’s not an official offer or a conference room conversation. We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”
Swift described watching her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, from the stands as emotionally intense. “That is violent chess,” she said. “That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field.”
Then came the hypothetical: “Can you imagine if he's out there every single week putting his life on the line, doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I'm like, 'I wonder what my choreo should be. I think we should do two verses of 'Shake It Off' into 'Blank Space' into 'Cruel Summer' would be great.'"
Swift was quick to clarify that Kelce would love to see her on the halftime stage. “This is nothing to do with Travis, he would love for me to do it. I'm just too locked in.”
Another rumor Fallon brought up was whether Swift had joked to Selena Gomez on her wedding day, “Hey you beat me to the altar.” Swift’s response was a flat-out no.
"I got to see her be the most elegant, gorgeous — not only bride but just — vision that I've ever seen in my life. I've never seen anything so beautiful as her on her wedding day," Swift said of Gomez’s September 27 wedding to music producer Benny Blanco.
She also made it clear that she didn’t steal the spotlight.
“I did make a speech. But I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement. No one wants you to be like, 'Hey, I know this is your wedding day but—'” she joked, raising her hand as if to show off a ring.
“I was like, ‘Don’t mention it.’ Let me turn it around,” Swift added, pretending to adjust the ring to face away from the crowd.
Swift did share a glimpse into her wedding speech for Gomez, where she poked fun at their early friendship days.
“I did do some light teasing about the way we used to dress in the year 2008 — the year that we met,” she said.
“We met when we were teenagers in 2008. It was quite a year. It was the year of deep, deep V-necks. It was the year of aggressively colorful skinny jeans. Everyone was walking around saying that things were amazeballs.
“Selena — her favorite outfit back then was a very long tank top, skinny jeans, but a tiny little vest,” Swift recalled. “The smallest vest, and Chucks, and that was her uniform that year. Mine was I always looked like I was late for the cowboy-themed junior prom.”
She ended the speech by sharing how special it was to have been part of Gomez’s journey. “I talked a little bit about 2008, how happy I am for her, how it’s been beautiful to get to be a part of her life. But I did not make it about me.”
Fallon also asked about Swift’s engagement news - and why Ed Sheeran found out with the rest of the world. According to Swift, it wasn’t a snub - just bad tech timing.
"I have the perfect explanation. He doesn't have a phone! He doesn't have one that works," she explained. Swift said she had texted close friends about the news, but since Sheeran wasn’t in her recent messages, he missed the memo.
"When the news came out I was like oh my god we forgot to call Ed! Oh no! He's like family. I love him. But he doesn't have a phone."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s tightly guarded wedding plans are already causing drama in Hollywood, with reports claiming some famous guests are furious over one controversial detail on their invitations.
Celebrity weddings have become massive global events, drawing huge attention from fans, media outlets, and brands alike. From extravagant venues and designer outfits to exclusive guest lists and viral social media moments, these ceremonies often generate headlines for weeks.
High-profile couples such as Kim Kardashian and Prince Harry turn their weddings into cultural moments that audiences eagerly follow in real time. The public fascination comes from a mix of glamour, romance, and curiosity about the private lives of famous people, making celebrity weddings feel less like personal ceremonies and more like worldwide entertainment spectacles.
Billionaire pop superstar Taylor Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are expected to tie the knot later this year, but nearly every aspect of the ceremony remains secret. From the location to the date to the celebrity guest list, insiders say Swift and Kelce are determined to keep everything locked down until the very last minute.
Now, fresh reports suggest the couple’s strict wedding rules have upset several A-list invitees after some guests allegedly discovered they were not allowed to bring a plus-one.
Frustration is apparently growing among some attendees after invitations were sent out without plus-one options for certain guests.
“I know Selena Gomez is bringing her husband Benny Blanco, so she has a plus-one, but I am not allowed to have a plus-one because I am a single woman,” one guest reportedly told the Daily Mail.
“I get it, the venue can probably allow for only so many people, but it’s not the best feeling.”
The insider claimed the decision quickly became a major talking point among Swift’s famous circle, especially because wedding etiquette debates around plus-ones regularly explode online.
“It’s the wedding of the year, but I may sit this one out because I am shy,” the guest added.
The source also revealed attendees reportedly will not learn the wedding location until the morning of the ceremony itself, as Swift and Kelce try to avoid leaks and paparazzi chaos.
“I get that too, she doesn’t want everyone knowing where she is getting married until the last minute for security reasons,” the insider said.
“Now it is one big guessing game, everyone is wondering where it will be. Probably a massive hotel like the Waldorf Astoria that has amazing security and access.”
Questions are also swirling around which members of Swift’s famous inner circle will actually make the guest list.
According to Page Six, longtime friend Zoë Kravitz is expected to attend despite reports their relationship has recently been “bumpy.” However, Blake Lively’s invitation status appears far less certain following the fallout connected to the It Ends With Us legal battle involving Justin Baldoni.
One insider claimed Lively is “not believed to be on the list at present,” before adding: “I think there’s a far greater chance of it now that the case is settled.”
The source also said: “As evidenced by [her appearance at] the Met Gala, Blake is ready to be back out there … she will be there with bells on if she is invited. But that’s a huge if.”
Meanwhile, another source claimed Swift wants the wedding to follow the same ultra-private model as close friend Ed Sheeran’s secret 2018 ceremony.
“To this day no one knows exactly who attended Ed Sheeran’s wedding, and that’s the model for this one,” the insider said. “Total secrecy.”
Swift and Kelce reportedly want complete privacy for the ceremony, with insiders claiming any outdoor venue would become “a zoo” because of drones and helicopters.
While rumors suggested save-the-date cards had been sent for a July 3 event in New York City, one source dismissed the speculation entirely.
“That’s not when that wedding is happening. Trust me,” the insider said.
Despite the secrecy and reported frustration surrounding the guest list, sources say some names are guaranteed to attend, including Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, Selena Gomez, Ashley Avignone and Ed Sheeran.
Kelce’s side of the guest list may prove the biggest challenge, however.
“NFL weddings are massive,” one insider explained. “Very often these guys feel honor-bound to invite their entire team, and the WAGS of the team, and the coaching staff, and it just blows up really really quickly.”

Cillian Murphy has once again become the internet’s favorite meme after his seemingly disinterested expression during Taylor Swift’s recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show went viral.
The Oscar-winning actor, 47, joined the pop superstar, 35, on the BBC chat show’s celebrity panel on Friday night, where both were promoting new projects.
Swift was there to discuss her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl (which has already caused some controversy) while Murphy appeared to promote his new film Steve, a drama centered on a headteacher struggling to maintain control of his students while grappling with his own mental health challenges.
While the conversation soon turned to Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, social media quickly lit up with posts about Murphy’s reaction, or lack thereof.
As the singer displayed her dazzling diamond ring, viewers couldn’t help but notice Murphy’s signature stoic expression, joking online that he looked “mentally elsewhere.”
Murphy’s neutral demeanor has become something of a running joke among fans.
The Irish actor has previously been caught on camera with the same subdued expression at high-profile events, including the 2024 Golden Globes, where he won Best Actor in a Motion Picture: Drama for Oppenheimer.
Despite taking home one of the night’s biggest awards, fans noted that Murphy appeared as calm and unbothered as ever; a contrast to the glitzy energy around him.
At the time, social media dubbed him the “winner of the IDGAF war,” praising his relatable indifference amid Hollywood fanfare.
Clips and stills of his barely-there smile became viral memes, earning him a cult following for his quiet confidence and unshakable composure.
Friday’s talk show appearance was no different.
As Taylor Swift chatted enthusiastically about her engagement and future wedding plans, Murphy maintained his characteristic poker face, prompting fans to joke that he was “performing mental gymnastics” to make it through the conversation.
Despite the playful online teasing, Murphy and Swift appear to have a friendly rapport.
During the episode, Swift fondly recalled spending time with Murphy and his family at a past Oscars party, describing his teenage sons as “polite, engaging, and curious.”
Murphy, smiling slightly, shared that he hadn’t expected his children to attend the event but was pleased that they made an impression.
When Swift noticed Murphy’s son Aran, 17, in the audience, she pointed him out, calling him “the future of our world”, drawing laughter from both Murphy and host Graham Norton.
Whether he’s collecting Oscars or enduring pop star small talk, Cillian Murphy’s effortlessly unbothered presence continues to charm fans; proving once again that sometimes, less expression says it all.

Taylor Swift has reportedly upset some of her famous friends after one detail on her wedding invitations left guests less than thrilled.
Rumors surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s upcoming wedding are hitting fever pitch, with fresh claims suggesting the billionaire pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end could tie the knot within weeks.
But while speculation around the power couple’s big day is exploding online, almost every major detail remains tightly under wraps. From the wedding date to the location to the celebrity guest list, insiders say very little has actually been confirmed.
One rumor making the rounds claims save-the-date notes were sent out for a lavish New York City celebration on July 3. However, some people within Swift’s orbit insist the couple are deliberately fueling confusion and having fun with the nonstop attention, possibly to throw paparazzi and fans off the scent.
The singer is preparing to marry Kelce later this year, with plans for the ceremony being kept tightly under wraps to avoid leaks before the big day. But according to a pal close to Swift, some Hollywood guests were caught off guard when invitations recently landed in their mailboxes.
The issue reportedly centers around Swift’s decision to limit plus-ones for many attendees, a move that has already caused frustration among some invitees.
According to the source, several celebrities invited to the wedding were not given the option to bring a guest with them.
“I know Selena Gomez is bringing her husband Benny Blanco, so she has a plus-one, but I am not allowed to have a plus-one because I am a single woman,” the guest told the Daily Mail.
“I get it, the venue can probably allow for only so many people, but it’s not the best feeling.”
The insider claimed the decision has become a hot topic among invitees, especially given the long-running social media debate around wedding etiquette and whether guests should automatically receive a plus-one.
The guest admitted the situation had even made them question attending the wedding at all.
“It’s the wedding of the year, but I may sit this one out because I am shy,” the guest said of the upcoming event, which will reportedly take place at a location only revealed to attendees on the morning of the ceremony.
Swift and Kelce are said to be going to major lengths to keep the wedding location private until the last possible moment.
“I get that too, she doesn’t want everyone knowing where she is getting married until the last minute for security reasons,” the insider said.
“Now it is one big guessing game, everyone is wondering where it will be. Probably a massive hotel like the Waldorf Astoria that has amazing security and access,” they added.
Despite the backlash, the source insisted they still support the singer and understand why such tight security measures are being put in place.
The pal reportedly said they “love” Swift, want “the best” for her and “get it”, while also not wanting to sound like a “major complainer”.
Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end first began dating in August 2023 after Kelce attended her Eras Tour concert in Kansas City. The pair announced their engagement last year.
At the same time, Swift is also dealing with legal trouble connected to the title of her latest album, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Maren Wade, a former America’s Got Talent contestant and Las Vegas Weekly columnist behind Confessions of a Showgirl, filed a federal lawsuit on March 30, accusing Swift and affiliated companies of trademark infringement.
According to the complaint, Wade alleges Swift and Universal Music Group infringed on her long-running brand Confessions of a Showgirl, citing “trademark infringement, false designation and unfair competition”.
