Brenda Fricker, the Oscar-winning actress behind the beloved 'Pigeon Lady' in the 1993 Christmas classic Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, has sadly died.
Phil Belfield, Fricker's agent, said in a statement to the Press Association: “We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her.
"I was honored to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”
Fricker, 81, was best known for her role in My Left Foot, which won her an Academy Award.
She played Daniel Day-Lewis' character Christy Brown's mum Bridget in the 1989 title, winning the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance.
In doing so, she became the first Irish actress to win an Academy Award, as Day-Lewis also won the Best Actor accolade.
Fricker thanked Brown for "being alive," dedicating her Oscar to his real-life mother, stating: "Anybody who gives birth 22 times deserves one of these, I think."
Aside from her Academy-winning performance, an entire generation will recognize her as the Pigeon Lady from Home Alone 2, who also has a striking resemblance to journalist and TV host Piers Morgan.
The character is homeless in the flick, and while she is feared by Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) at first, they become close friends and she eventually saves him.
Fans will never forget the character, who delivered some powerful scenes in the role.
One emotional moment involved the Pigeon Lady explaining how she removed herself from society, becoming more comfortable with birds in the park.
Kevin would later help her learn to trust people again after gifting her a porcelain turtledove on Christmas morning.
Fans of the movie franchise were distraught upon being told of her death, as one wrote on X: "It's going to be sad seeing 'Home Alone 2' on TV at Christmas this year with both Catherine O'Hara and now Brenda Fricker gone," with a crying emoji.
Another said: "Home Alone marathons this year without Catherine O’Hara and Brenda Fricker," with sad face emojis.
Fricker also appeared in BBC drama Casualty as Megan Roach until 1990, while featuring in films such as A Time to Kill, Axe Murderer, Angels in the Outfield, Veronica Guerin and the Sir Richard Attenborough-directed epic, Closing the Ring.
Despite success in years past, Fricker started to feel a bit like the Pigeon Lady, telling The Times in a 2024 interview that she wasn't really part of the industry anymore.
She explained: "They don't write for old women. Shakespeare wrote for old women, but none of the young writers do. None.
"There are so many wonderful people around… interesting women with history and stories.
"Remember these words when you turn 70: you become invisible.
"Richard Harris said that to me while sitting on the rocks looking out over the Atlantic Ocean and it stuck in my head.
"On my 70th birthday I thought: 'He's wrong, I feel great.' A week later I knew exactly what he meant. It's weird.
"So it's not that I'm out of work for any other reason there are no parts to do," she admitted.

I don’t know about you, but when we first met the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, I used to find her reveal quite startling.
But, in more recent years, people are starting to doubt if she is even a lady at all, with social media going crazy about how the pigeon lady may actually be British broadcaster Piers Morgan.
Let me get you up to speed for those who don’t even know who the pigeon lady is.
So, it’s the 1992 sequel to Home Alone, and this time Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin again) is lost alone in New York after getting on a different plane from his family.
As Kevin is navigating New York alone in the dark, he makes a turn into Central Park where he comes across a flock of pigeons. He starts feeding the pigeons until he realizes that one of the pigeons is actually sitting on a woman’s head.
This unnamed pigeon lady who appears homeless likes to tend to the pigeons. However, her appearance initially frightens Kevin, who tries to run away from her.
Of course, the pigeon lady -whose name we never learn - turns out to be a kind character who Kevin ends up befriending.
So, where does Piers Morgan, 57, come into all of this?
In 2020, Susanna Reid brought up the topic on an episode of the British breakfast show Good Morning Britain, which she and Piers Morgan co-hosted at the time.
As per The Independent, Reid said: “Can we just have a look at Home Alone 2 because, frankly, it is the best picture.
“Lots of people watch Home Alone 2 and wonder if this is you.”
Cue a picture of Piers Morgan side by side with the pigeon lady, who is actually played by Irish actor Brenda Fricker:
“Why does this keep coming around? That is not me. I am not the bag lady in Home Alone 2,” Morgan declared.
At the time, GMB creator, Erron Gordon, tweeted an old photo of Piers Morgan, in which the journalist was covered in real pigeons, like the pigeon lady, further fueling the rumor.
Even the TV presenter’s son likes to get in on the joke. In 2018, Spencer Morgan, tweeted: “Chilled night watching Home Alone 2. Always forget you’re in it @piersmorgan.”
In fact, people on Twitter are still convinced that Piers Morgan is the pigeon lady, despite his denying it.
“I'm just saying, I’ve never seen Piers Morgan and the Home Alone 2 Pigeon Lady in the same room,” one Twitter user commented.
Another Twitter user asked: “How much did you get paid to be the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2?”
Despite Morgan’s firm denial, it can’t be disproved that the two certainly have an uncanny resemblance!

It's that time of year again; when Piers Morgan is forced to deny the claims that he is the pigeon lady from Home Alone 2.
Christmas is a time when people gather around to watch their favorite festive flicks, and the Home Alone movies inevitably make an appearance at some point.
After not learning their lessons from the first movie, Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin) finds himself lost in New York City after boarding a different flight from his parents.
For those who have been to New York, you'll know that it can be a bit overwhelming at the best of times, let alone for a child lost without their family.
But then again, this is Kevin.
As he navigates Central Park, he comes across a flock of pigeons and soon realizes that one of them is sitting upon a woman's head. Despite initially being intimidated by the pigeon lady, the two soon become friends.
Spoiler alert, she ends up saving Kevin after he gets captured by the Wet Bandits and they are seemingly about to shoot him.
But what does any of this have to do with the British broadcaster Piers Morgan? Well, he strikes quite the resemblance with the pigeon lady.
During a 2020 episode of the British breakfast show Good Morning Britain, Morgan's co-host Susanna Reid brought up the topic to which the host replied: "Why does this keep coming around? That is not me. I am not the bag lady in Home Alone 2."
Still, this hasn't stopped people from making the comparison and this year was no exception as Morgan was forced to take to social media to deny it, simply stating: "It’s. Not. Me."
Despite his protests, this didn't stop people from flocking to the comments to disagree with him and to state that he clearly did star in the movie.
"The resemblance is very uncanny," one person penned, while a second added: "Never seen you in the same room, Piers, just saying."
One person even went as far as to start a poll asking X users what they thought, and at the time of writing, a landslide 73.2 percent of people say that they believe the pigeon lady is played by Piers Morgan.
The pigeon lady was played by Irish actor Brenda Fricker, but reminding Morgan of the resemblance every Christmas has turned into a bit of a tradition that we should keep going as long as possible.
If you did watch Home Alone 2 this Christmas, you may not have seen Piers Morgan, but Donald Trump makes an appearance.

The Home Alone movie franchise may be synonymous with the holiday season, but that doesn't mean all viewers are left with a feel-good festive feeling...
In December of 1990, Macaulay Culkin delighted viewers worldwide when he starred as the adorable rascal Kevin McCallister in the first Home Alone movie.
The Christmas flick saw eight-year-old Kevin utilize his toybox and cunning mind in order to thwart two burglars from robbing his house after his family accidentally leaves him home alone.
Despite the McCallisters being the absolute worst family in movie history (just try to change my mind), Home Alone was a huge success - amassing fans worldwide and going on to become the highest-grossing live-action comedy for over 20 years.
Therefore, it was only fitting that fans got to see Culkin return as Kevin in the movie's 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
This time around, Kevin was attempting to foil the plans of the Wet Bandits in the Big Apple - and much like the first movie, he didn't have his family around to help him.
Nevertheless, similar to how he befriended Old Man Marley in the first movie, Kevin does receive a helping hand from a kind homeless woman known as the Pigeon Lady (played by Brenda Fricker).
After putting the Wet Bandits through a series of seriously heinous traps, Harry and Marv finally catch up to Kevin after he slips on some ice in Central Park. But just when it looks like Kevin is about to celebrate his very last Christmas, he is saved by the Pigeon Lady, who throws a bucket of birdseed onto them - allowing Kevin to escape and the police to finally get the burglars in handcuffs.
On Christmas morning, Kevin is rewarded with toys and reconciles with his family - but he takes a moment to visit Central Park and give a special turtledove tree ornament to the Pigeon Lady as a sign of their everlasting friendship.
Now, the moment was clearly supposed to be a touching gesture to signify Kevin's gratitude and appreciation for his new friend, but people rewatching the classic Christmas movie have been left seriously unimpressed.
This is mainly down to the fact that Kevin had been staying in New York with his father's credit card - checking into the Plaza hotel and ordering room service. And what does he give the homeless woman who saved his life? A ceramic turtledove!
One viewer tweeted: "Since I was a kid, I've never been able to eat anytime the Pigeon Lady was on screen during Home Alone 2. This lady is LITTERLLY covered in bird s**t and Kevin McCallister's BIG gift to her are some Christmas ornaments... GIVE THE LADY A HOT SHOWER IN YOUR HOTEL SUITE, KEVIN!!!"
A second added: "Nobody talks about the bird lady from Home Alone 2 who is homeless and saves Kevin’s life, only to be given two plastic turtle dove tree ornaments at the end. Meanwhile Kev’s staying at the Plaza. Doesn’t offer her a shower or a sandwich. Just turtle doves.
"Kevin’s an a**hole."
A third wrote: "Remember when Kevin gave that nice pigeon lady a toy bird instead of inviting her to his stolen penthouse suite? Kevin really was the villain."
And many others agreed:
Although, this Twitter user came up with a far better ending for the sequel:

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Emmy-winning actress Catherine O’Hara, who passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 71.
While the cause of her death has yet to be confirmed, it has sent shockwaves through fans and her former co-stars, especially Macaulay Culkin, her onscreen son in the beloved Home Alone films.
Macaulay Culkin, who starred alongside O'Hara in Home Alone (1990) and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), shared a poignant tribute to the actress on Instagram.
Reflecting on their onscreen mother-son relationship, Culkin wrote: “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”
The emotional post included side-by-side images of them in Home Alone and a more recent photo taken in 2023.
Having worked together when Culkin was just 10 years old, the two formed a lasting bond, with Culkin often calling O’Hara a “mother figure.”
Their connection was evident during the Home Alone films, which became an annual holiday tradition for millions of viewers around the world.
O'Hara’s character, Kate McCallister, became a beloved part of the film's iconic moments, from her frantic chase to reunite with her son to her tender moments of care and concern.
One of the final public moments between Culkin and O'Hara was in December 2023, when she supported him at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
As part of the emotional event, O'Hara introduced Culkin and spoke fondly of his portrayal of Kevin McCallister in Home Alone.
She referred to his performance as "perfect" and praised his natural talent, adding: "I know you worked really hard. I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do."
O'Hara also highlighted Culkin's distinct sense of humor, noting that it always brought a unique charm to every project he worked on.
She concluded her speech with a lighthearted, humorous remark, saying: "And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once, but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I'm so proud of you."
Culkin appeared downcast as he was spotted outside in LA in the hours following the announcement of O'Hara's death.
Beyond Culkin, O'Hara’s Home Alone co-stars are also expressing their sadness over her passing. Joe Pesci, who starred as one of the burglars in both Home Alone films, shared his condolences in a statement to PEOPLE: "She was a great actress, and she will be missed. God bless, rest in peace."
O'Hara’s legacy extended far beyond the Home Alone franchise. She was widely celebrated for her portrayal of Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, a role that earned her an Emmy Award in 2020. Her talents were also showcased in recent roles, such as Patty Leigh in Apple TV+'s The Studio.
O’Hara is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke.
