Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa has shared a throwback photo from Game of Thrones, reportedly taken when the actor was "too broke to fly home".

"Looking through my phone I found this," captioned Momoa - who played Khal Drogo on the HBO fantasy epic for two seasons - on Instagram, where his post has already around 800,000 likes. It shows him inflating two blow-up beds for himself and his friend Brian Mendoza, back when they were two people struggling to make it in Hollywood.

Momoa's come a long way since then - here he is reacting to Game of Thrones' final episode:

"Off the road some quiet parking lot in donegal. It was an amazing simple moment with my best friend @captainriff [Mendoza]," explained Momoa, saying he literally couldn't afford to stay in a hotel while filming what turned out to be his breakout role.

"While filming GOT we had a lil break We were to broke to fly home so we rented a panel van aka UHAUL in Belfast and drove around beautiful amazing IRELAND searching for the greatest pint of Guinness. Turns out it’s perfect everywhere."

But now, as the main character in Aquaman and a bona-fide movie star, Jason Momoa still feels homesick from time to time, but has a full appreciation for just how far he has come.

"So many wonderful people and stories I treasure those times. It was the simplest moments I remember the most. I still miss my family. Been a long road and I feel like I’m just getting started."

It's been an amazing journey for the Hawaii-born Momoa, and with a starring role in the upcoming Dune adaptation in the works, he's still got a lot more ahead of him.
