Kim Kardashian’s controversial 2024 Met Gala look certainly got people talking on social media - and it seems the outfit did, in fact, leave the star "breathless".

As previously reported, the 43-year-old reality TV star attended the 2024 Met Gala, which took place on Monday (May 6) in New York City.

The extravaganza has been organized and presided over by Anna Wintour since 1995 and has become one of the most precious events on the fashion calendar.

The dress code for this year was 'The Garden in Time,' inspired by a short story of the same name by JG Ballard. The theme coincides with the Costume Institute’s ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ exhibit.

The SKIMS mogul caused a stir online with her look for the event as she sported an eye-catching silver Maison Margiela corset-style dress accessorized with a simple grey shawl.

The corset was so tight and constricting that she needed assistance from attendees to make her way up the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps.

After sharing a series of photos of her in the dress on her Instagram page, many of her 363 million followers slammed her look, with people branding it “scary”, “unhealthy”, and “painful”.

“I’m sorry I am a fan but the waist in this photo is not ok,” one person commented. Another user added: “I respect the branding beast she is as well as the style but the waist is scary.”

“To all the ladies, this isn’t natural don't think for one sec this is what you need to look like,” a third user added. “Unhealthy standards and unhealthy looking," a fourth remarked.

The reality TV star disclosed more mind-blowing details of her look in a new behind-the-scenes video with Vogue magazine.

The clip starts with Kardashian breathing through her mouth while being sucked into the corset, which was rewoven with antique silver brocade.

When asked about her breathing, Kim replied: “It’s an art form, but I got it,” while the team laced her up.

Despite the difficult breathwork, the mom-of-four remarked that she loved the waist-clinching corset because it made her boobs and waist look “so good.”

“I’ll feel so snatched, I won’t even be able to communicate to you how snatched I feel,” she added.

According to the video, another hidden element for the look was the custom Maison Margiela thong Kardashian wore underneath her metal see-through skirt.

She also donned shocking gravity-defying shoes that were made with a thick clear sole but had no heels. This was to avoid her skirt getting caught.

"To wear these, you’re on your tiptoes and you’re balancing the whole time flexing your calf muscles,” she explained. “I think we really need the height on this look, so we gotta do what we gotta do."

The business icon shared that she has been wanting to team up with Maison Margiela to design her Met Gala look for years.

She admitted that she fell in love with the fashion label after attending a “theatrical” fashion show that was filled with “corsets".

“It finally just connected and it was a dream to get to know [current designer John Galliano], to spend time with him,” she said. “For me, I would even want to do him so much more justice because I know the human being that he is.”
