Sandra Bullock has opened up about filming one of the most memorable scenes from the 2009 romantic comedy The Proposal, revealing that things became a little more revealing than planned while shooting with co-star Ryan Reynolds.
The Oscar-winning actress starred as tough New York editor Margaret Tate opposite Reynolds' assistant Andrew Paxton in the hit comedy, which follows the pair entering a fake marriage agreement before eventually falling in love. One of the film's funniest moments sees the two accidentally collide while completely naked, sending them crashing to the floor together.
While the scene had audiences laughing when the movie was released, Bullock has now shared what really happened behind the scenes, explaining that protective coverings repeatedly came loose during filming, leading to some awkward moments on set.
Speaking about filming the sequence, Bullock told Parade.com: "You have things covering up your essential parts, but they get unstuck. And, oddly enough, we didn't care because we were so tired. Ann was like, 'Sandra, your vagina is hanging out. Cover it up.' I'm like, 'Oh, sorry, sorry.'"
She continued: "And the crew would be like, 'Jeez, her nipple is showing'. They weren't titillated, they were unhappy because they knew we had to retake the shot. They're like, 'We want to go to lunch. Cover the nip.' So that's pretty much how the day went."
According to Bullock, the mood on set stayed light throughout filming, with everyone more focused on getting the scene finished than the accidental wardrobe mishaps.
Bullock also explained that the nudity was necessary to make the physical comedy land the way director Ann Fletcher intended.
"The nudity was appropriate for the film. I had to be buck-naked," she said.
"The big thing was that it was funny. And the only way it could be funny was if you saw my whole body. Ann Fletcher, the director, was amazing in how she choreographed it because we knew we couldn't show anything too explicit."
Bullock even joked about Reynolds while reflecting on the experience.
"I had a little bit more area to cover than Ryan did, so it was a little trickier for me. But I can talk about Ryan's penis if you want. I mean if I looked like him, I'd be naked all the time."
The Proposal became a box office hit following its release in 2009, with Bullock and Reynolds earning praise for their on-screen chemistry. The pair also won Favorite Comedy Movie at the People's Choice Awards in 2010.

Sandra Bullock turned 59 yesterday, and Ryan Reynolds wished his former co-star a happy birthday with a pretty explicit throwback!
Bullock is one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, as her performances in movies such as The Blind Side and Bird Box have turned her into a household name.
The actress starred in The Proposal in 2009 alongside everyone's favorite actor, Ryan Reynolds - and it would seem as if the latter still has fond memories of their time together.
The film centers around Bullock's character Margaret Tate who faces deportation from the US, so she forces her young assistant Andrew Paxton (played by Reynolds) to marry her.
As classic romcoms go, the feelings eventually start flowing, but not before some pretty hilarious scenes - and Reynolds has decided to resurface one of them.
The clip features both Bullock and Reynolds in the nude, and a series of unfortunate events leads to them falling onto one another.
Posting the snippet of the scene onto Instagram to celebrate Bullock's birthday, the Deadpool actor wrote: "Happy Birthday to the inimitable and stunning Sandra Bullock! For your birthday this year, I got us both intimacy coordinators. And an HR department. And clothing?"
Reynolds is a renowned prankster in Hollywood, as he often demonstrates with his wife Blake Lively, or best friend/enemy Hugh Jackman.
Bullock is just the latest victim of his hilarious mind and she has until October (Reynolds' birthday) to think of how to revenge on her former co-star.
People in the comments clearly saw the funny side of the post, as one person penned: "The horror when Sandra Bullock sees this for a birthday wishing post."
A second added: "I bet this scene is an inside joke between these two actors after so many years," and a third person said: "I almost peed myself laughing from that scene. Best movie ever!"
For anyone who thinks that Blake Lively might not be happy that her husband is sharing nude scenes with another woman - it's likely she found it just as funny.
The pair have a relationship based on joking around with each other, demonstrated when Lively explained that she bought an ESPN subscription purely to watch Reynolds experience "crippling anxiety" while watching his soccer team play.
One thing is for sure, we hope that Reynolds never changes - oh, and happy birthday to Sandra Bullock!

I will happily fight anybody that doesn't agree that The Proposal is the greatest romantic-comedy of the naughties.
Starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, the movie follows Canadian executive Margaret (Bullock), as she attempts to earn a US visa by getting her assistant, Andrew (Reynolds), to act as her fiancé and marry her. The only problem? They hate each other (and it's highly illegal).
Seriously, if you haven't seen it, check out the trailer below - I've just sorted your weekend plans:

Seriously, ignore the 6.7/10 IMDb rating - the movie is pure gold. And one of the biggest reasons for the movie being so iconic is the fact it stars screen legend Betty White as Andrew's grandmother, Gammy Annie.
Throughout the movie, White proves she hasn't missed a beat, despite being 87-years-old upon the movie's release.
Fast-forward 11 years later, and Betty White is celebrating her 98th birthday - and as a way of making her day the best it possibly could be, Reynolds and Bullock collaborated to make White a special (and hilarious) birthday video message.
Check out their birthday message below:

Ryan accompanied the video with a message to his 34.7 million Instagram followers that read: "Happy 98th Birthday to the one and only Betty White!"
While singing happy birthday to their former co-star and beloved friend (also, shout out to Ryan's ability to hold a note), it isn't long before the pair are playfully taking shots at each other.
And Ryan's followers adored the video, with it being viewed more than 6.5 million times in under 24 hours.
Even singing sensation Mariah Carey commented on the video, saying: "Awww happy birthday Betty!! (Sidebar-you know I love that movie right??)"
To celebrate her birthday, Netflix released the 2018 documentary Betty White: First Lady of Television, celebrating White's legendary roles on the small screen.

Ah, it's great to see these two back together, but most importantly - Happy 98th birthday, Betty! (Please make a The Proposal 2.)

Sandra Bullock has shared her technique for avoiding contact with Channing Tatum's private parts while filming their new movie.
The topic arose when Bullock appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, to promote The Lost City, in which she stars alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Hollywood heartthrob Channing Tatum.
On the show, the clip from the movie, in which Bullock's character checks Tatum's character's body for leeches, is shown to the audience.
According to the Miss Congeniality star, her co-star spent a significant amount of the movie being “stupid naked”. She also said she had to act out a scene “face-to-face” with his manhood.
"Was that CGI?" host Colbert asks of the up-close interaction with said manhood.
"No. [I’m] fully there. Full on face to face, with the, uh... landscape," she said. 'I had to spend some time down there, just making sure no leeches, and I had a lot to say to it. When you’re down there, you may as well just get to know it."
She continued: "When you’re down there and you have two pages of dialogue, if you are looking directly at it, you will get nothing done. So I looked at his left thigh. I focused more on the left inner thigh."
The Lost City tells the story of a romance-adventure novelist named Loretta Sage (Bullock) who goes a book tour with the very hunky cover model Alan, (Tatum).
Things become chaotic though when Radcliffe's character emerges as a mad billionaire, who kidnaps Loretta so that she can assist him in uncovering the Lost City she writes about.
As the film goes on, Alan and Loretta decide to try and find the Lost City themselves, but yet another character, Brad, comes in and attempts to rescue them both.
In another Bullock news, the mother of two recently shared that she will be taking a break from acting to spend time with her children, Louis Bardo, 11, and daughter Laila, 8.
She told Entertainment Tonight: "I take my job very seriously when I’m at work... and I just want to be 24/7 with my babies and my family."

Nicole Kidman's co-star has opened up about the sex scene that the star claimed she had to pause filming as she "didn't want to org*sm anymore."
The 57-year-old Oscar-winning actress stars alongside Iron Claw actor Harris Dickinson in the highly anticipated A24 film Babygirl.
Check out the trailer below:
Kidman plays Romy, an ambitious married tech CEO who embarks on a passionate affair with Samuel, a young intern played by Dickinson.
In a candid interview with The Sun, Kidman opened up about the impact the sexual scenes had on her, describing days on set as overwhelming.
"There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It's like, 'Don't touch me,'" she said.
The actress confessed there were moments when the intensity became too much, adding: "There were times when we were shooting where I was like, 'I don't want to org*sm anymore.'"
Dickinson has now opened up about his own experience during a recent interview with Variety.
The Where the Crawdads Sing actor revealed that while the scenes were carefully coordinated, one in particular - featuring near-naked dancing to a George Michael song - left him feeling especially self-conscious.
"Halina [Reijn, the director] put the song on and said, 'Just dance.' So I just had a little groove," Dickinson recalled, adding with a laugh: "Maybe I had a little whiskey before. But it was embarrassing."
Dickinson also explained the role of the film's intimacy coordinator, Lizzie Talbot, in ensuring that the actors felt comfortable during the more explicit scenes.
"We’d have a discussion with the intimacy coordinator, and then Nicole and I kind of did our own thing with it once we set the parameters of what we were both comfortable with," he explained.
Talbot's role, Dickinson noted, was to facilitate the process delicately without disrupting the scene, ensuring both the actors and the director's vision were respected.
The film had its early premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where Kidman’s performance earned her the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress, per PEOPLE.
During a recent Q&A, the Big Little Lies star shared that Babygirl pushed her into new territory as an actress.
"There’s a sort of a jump-off-the-cliff thing where you go, okay, I’m just going to abandon everything and explore this," she said, noting the importance of trusting her director and co-stars in such an emotionally charged film.
Kidman praised director Halina Reijn for creating a safe environment on set.
"You have your director at the helm going, ‘I will protect you. Nothing that’s going to be in the film will be anything that you are not comfortable with,’" she explained.

Keanu Reeves fans have hit out at an interviewer who they believe asked "inappropriate" questions regarding his friendship with Sandra Bullock.
The incident unfolded during a recent appearance on The One Show in the UK.
Reeves was there to discuss his upcoming roles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Ballerina.
However, the beloved John Wick star found himself in an unexpected line of questioning about his longtime friend and former co-star Sandra Bullock.
Host Gabby Logan, after mentioning Reeves’ recent reunion with Bullock at a 30th-anniversary screening of their 1994 hit Speed, pushed the actor on a personal note.
Logan hinted at past feelings between the co-stars, asking Reeves: "Didn't you discover later that you could've got on even better... you both had a bit of a crush on each other on set but you didn't find out until later on that you kind of fancied each other..."
The line of questioning came off as uncomfortable for both Reeves and the audience, given the actor’s long-term relationship with 51-year-old artist Alexandra Grant.
Fans quickly took to social media to voice their disapproval, with one Instagram user writing: "Terrible interviewing by the BBC."
A second added: "Embarrassing questions, a lovely man, and a great actor."
A third person said: "Why say that to a happily married man? So awkward and disrespectful."
A fourth added: "The BBC are like gossipy old biddies at a tea party. Embarrassing. The poor man hid his irritation well."
In true Keanu Reeves style, he played it off in a professional, kind manner.
When asked about the anniversary screening, Reeves had responded warmly, describing it as a pleasant chance to reconnect with Bullock.
“That was so nice. Yeah, Sandra Bullock and I get along really well, and it’s always nice to see her, so it was nice to kind of hang out for a little bit,” he said.
But the tone shifted when Logan alluded to their past mutual crushes, prompting Reeves to respond with a polite: “Ohhhh yeah! We were very professional.”
Co-host Alex Jones interjected with: “That would’ve been a nice couple!” and Logan added: “There was great chemistry on screen anyway; it was fantastic."
Reeves appeared visibly uncomfortable, with many fans noting the awkward shift in atmosphere.
In regards to Reeves' actual romantic relationship, he and Alexandra Grant first went public with their love back in 2019 when they made a red carpet appearance together at a film gala, holding hands for the paparazzi.
Since then, the couple has managed to keep their love life under wraps, in line with Reeves' commitment to safeguarding the privacy of his loved ones.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Keanu Reeves shared a rare and tender insight into his personal life that's left fans swooning.
When asked about the last moment of bliss he'd experienced, the actor replied: "A couple of days ago with my honey. We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together."
