Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have made a decision on which name the pop star will assume once they say their vows, according to reports.
Traditionally, the woman takes the man’s surname once they are married, but with this custom now seen by some as outdated, due to the once legal (now ceremonial) premise that a man absorbs his wife’s identity, there has been much speculation around whether the singer will continue with her maiden name.
The pop superstar’s name is one of the most valuable brands in entertainment, so any change would be significant.
But according to a report cited by the Daily Mail, Swift is expected to become Mrs Taylor Kelce in her private life while keeping her famous name for work.
An insider said: “Professionally, she'll always be Taylor Swift. The name has become one of the biggest brands in entertainment, and there's really no reason to change that.”
The source added that Swift is “very traditional” and sees taking her husband’s last name as a meaningful part of marriage.
They explained: “Personally, it's a different story; Taylor is very traditional, and when it comes to marriage, she'd love to take Travis' last name.
In her personal life, the idea of being Taylor Kelce is something she genuinely looks forward to. She sees it as a meaningful step, especially knowing it would also be the family name their future children would share.”
Another source close to the pair said the couple does not plan to hyphenate their surnames, adding: “Both she and Travis think there's something incredibly special and beautiful about sharing the same last name, even if the world will always know her professionally as Taylor Swift.”
A further insider claimed: “She will take his last name when they wed, but for work she will still go by Taylor Swift. Jennifer Aniston did this when she married Brad Pitt.”
Reports also have suggested Swift and Kelce are due to marry at Madison Square Garden in New York City this weekend, as part of a multi-day celebration.
The wedding is said to begin on Thursday, July 2, with a rehearsal dinner for close friends and family, followed by a larger party for around 1,000 guests on Friday.
