We've had our fair share of shocks at the Oscars throughout the years... but was a naked John Cena on your bingo card this year?

After an opening monologue from Jimmy Kimmel that many believed fell flat, the evening was in desperate need of an injection of humor.

Who would have thought that it would come during the presentation of Best Costume Design?

Kimmel set the scene by referring to a shocking moment from the 1974 Awards when a streaker stole the show by somehow getting behind the scenes and running on stage with everything on show.

Check out the skit below:

Stating that he would be shocked if something similar happened again this year, Kimmel was evidently setting up a joke... and that's when Cena's head popped out of the wings.

Not wearing a shirt, Cena expressed that he had cold feet over carrying on with the bit and refused to walk out onto the stage without any clothes.

Kimmel managed to persuade him to venture out onto the stage, and much to everyone's shock... Cena really was butt-naked, with only an envelope covering his modesty.

Quite fitting that he was there to present the award for Best Costume Design.

Kimmel had to come back out to help him present the award, however, as Cena was unable to lift the envelope without flashing everyone in the audience.

As you'd expect from a naked John Cena, people flocked to social media to offer their thoughts on the hilarious moment.

"That was rather funny! I think I woke my neighbors screaming like I did, but I loved it," one person said, while a second added: "Honestly, this is hilarious."

Another person said: "This nude John Cena bit is the best Oscars moment in a decade."

Cena isn't a stranger to comedy, as he left fans stunned when he appeared as a "Kenmaid" in Barbie.

With his chiseled physique on full display, Cena wears a necklace adorned with white shells, pearls, and a striking blue shell pendant in the scene.

In an exclusive revelation on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Margot Robbie disclosed that Cena's cameo wasn't part of the original plan.

"I ran into him because I went to pay the bill, and they were like, 'John Cena already took care of it.' I was like, 'What? Where is he?’ I mean, he’s a big guy. Yeah, I couldn’t see him. But I was like, he’s hard to hide," Robbie quipped.

With Cena shooting nearby at Leavesden, where Barbie was also being filmed, Robbie seized the moment, extending an impromptu invitation: "Do you want to come be a merman in Barbie?' and he was like: 'Uh, yeah.'"
