Sam Asghari has spoken out in defense of his wife Britney Spears ahead of the release of a TMZ documentary based on her life.

The 29-year-old fitness trainer shared a video to his Instagram Story on Sunday (May 14) slamming the "absolutely disgusting" ways in which people in the 41-year-old singer's inner circle "told her story like it was theirs".

Asghari was reportedly referencing their involvement in the TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears, The Price of Freedom film which premiered on Monday (May 15) night.

The documentary focused on the 'Baby One More Time' hitmaker's life since her controversial conservatorship ended in November 2021.

The Hot Seat actor later deleted the video protecting his wife from his story, but since everything is permanent on the internet, it has still been making the rounds.

"The last thing I want to do is speak on my wife’s behalf, I will never do that. I respect her privacy, that’s why I don’t talk as much," Asghari began the video.

"I found it absolutely disgusting for the people that were in her life at the time when she didn’t have a voice, they went and told her story like it was theirs. It was absolutely disgusting.

"How are you gonna take the most influential person of our generation, the princess of pop, America’s sweetheart, and put her in prison, where her father tells her what to do, what water to drink, who to see, and use her as a money-making machine," he continued.

"And then all of a sudden, after 15 years when she’s free after all [that] gaslighting and all those things that went down, now you’re gonna put her under a microscope and tell her story? No. That’s also disgusting, so don’t do that," he added.

Spears' beau also told people not to believe everything they read, saying that "ninety-nine percent" of the rumors out there about their marriage are clickbait that are just designed to make money. He concluded the video by stating that the "gaslighting" needs to stop.

This isn't the first time that Asghari has supported his wife on social media. Back in December, he spoke out after the 'Toxic' songstress was criticized for posting topless pictures of herself on Instagram.

"The only person in the world that gets bullied for posting things like this," he wrote in a comment shared to his Instagram Story. "I personally preferred she never posted these but who am I to control someone that's been under a microscope and been controlled for most of her life."

According to The Independent, Asghari's defensive comments also come amid speculations that the couple's marriage is facing difficulties due to a TMZ source.

However, the actor responded to breakup rumors last month and stated that all is well between them. He even set the record straight on social media by sharing multiple pictures of him wearing his wedding band.

In addition to this, Page Six reported that Asghari's rep, Brandon Cohen, confirmed that his client is not having marital problems with the 'Baby One More Time' songstress.
