A groom has sparked debate after giving his bride the honest opinion she wanted about her wedding dress.
Reddit user paolde took to the popular subreddit "Am I the a**hole?" to ask if he was wrong for giving his fiancée his honest opinion about the dress she'd already bought for their big day.
He explained that he and his partner are tying the knot in nine months, and after months of shopping with her friends, she finally found what she thought was the perfect dress and bought it.
The bride-to-be, however, was too excited to keep it a secret.
"She brought her dress out and asked what I thought. I specifically asked her if she wants the God's honest truth and wants me to critique the dress or if she knows she loves it and just wants to show me. She said she wanted my opinion."

The man went on to explain that while his bride-to-be is beautiful, the dress simply didn't suit her.
"She put the dress on and came out of the bathroom and I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed," he wrote.
"The dress completely dwarfed her and didn't really fit the wedding theme she has worked so hard for. She wanted a foresty, magical and whimsical, type theme. Flower crowns on the bridesmaids etc.
"But she chose a super sparkly dress with a HUGE skirt, which looked nothing like the simply, body hugging [sic] sexy dresses she had been repeatedly showing me. She picked basically a huge Disney princess dress and I just didn't like how it looked at all."
The man explained that he went on to tell his bride exactly what he thought of her dress, causing her to get upset and storm upstairs.
"I told her I didn't like it," he admitted, "and I was surprised she picked it because it just doesn't seem to match her and I just thought it was too much poof and sparkle."

He revealed that his partner went to her mother's house and blocked his number afterward and that this is the first major fight they have had as a couple.
"I'm just so annoyed because I ASKED if she wanted a real opinion and she said yes," he concluded.
The man went onto reveal in a later edit of the post that the dress cost a whopping $9K and his bride is unable to return it.
The most popular response to the question came from a Reddit user who told the man that while he was not an a**hole, he is definitely an idiot.
They wrote: "No matter what she will now feel sh**ty about her clothes on your wedding day.
"What possible good could come of telling her you don't like the dress SHE ALREADY BOUGHT!"

A second added: "You are a fool for thinking she wanted an honest, blunt answer. She is a fool for asking for an honest opinion when she didn't want one. Fools abound!"

Meanwhile, a third Reddit user believes the entire situation could have been avoided if this man had just watched a Disney movie before giving his opinion.

A fourth said the story was a testament to why most brides keep their wedding dress a secret until the big day.

Then there was this Reddit user who criticized the man's partner for reacting in the way that she did to the feedback she had explicitly asked for.

What do you think? Was this man an a**hole or just, as Reddit seems to agree, an idiot?
